Image: Arum expecting 20,000 fans for Duddy-Chavez Jr. bout on June 26thBy Jim Dower: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is setting up the seating for 20,0000 fans at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas, for the June 26th bout between John Duddy and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KO’s). Incredibly, the Chavez Jr. vs. Duddy bout will be the main even in the Pay-per-View Latin Fury 16 card. It’s hard to imagine this fight as being a main event, and even harder to imagine having to pay to see it. To be sure, Duddy and Chavez Jr. are both entertaining fighters in their own way, showing some decent skills.

Duddy’s appearance on the Cotto-Foreman undercard, only three months after his lackluster performance on the Pacquiao-Clottey undercard, has angered many fight fans. Indeed, the Derry man was lucky to walk away with a split decision over Michael Medina. Whatever the reason, Duddy was neither impressive nor exciting.

It was hoped that Duddy, 30, could be fighting unbeaten Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on that card, with the winner facing fellow Top Rank fighter WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik later in 2010, but Chavez recently tested positive for the banned drug Furosemide before his recent bout against Troy Rowland and was subsequently suspended for seven months by the Nevada Athletic Commission.

Pacquiao-Clottey a horrible fight and dreadful undercard

Image: Pacquiao-Clottey a horrible fight and dreadful undercardBy Chris Williams: I hate to say I told you so, but I did. I knew the Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey fight was going to be a total mismatch. And for the many Pacquiao fans, including trainer Freddie Roach, who said that Clottey was the type of opponent that would bring an exciting fight, you were dead wrong. How could Roach be so ignorant of Clottey? I’ve see Clottey fight at least 10 times and I knew all he was capable of doing was just covering up. If Roach didn’t know that too, shame on him.
