By Jason Kim: With only six weeks to train undefeated junior middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) before his June 26th fight against John Duddy (29-1, 18 KO’s) at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas, trainer Freddie Roach isn’t quite sure how much he can do for the 24-year-old Chavez in that short of a time to make a significant enough impact for this fight.

By Chris Williams: On paper, unbeaten Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) would seem to be in for a vicious beating on June 26th in his 12 round bout against John Duddy (29-1, 18 KO’s) at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas. Chavez, 24, has fought no one near as good as the 30-year-old Duddy, and has looked dreadful at times against the B level fighters Chavez has fought in his career. Recently, Chavez Jr. decided to start training with Freddie Roach, the trainer that has worked wonders with Manny Pacquiao and number of other fighters.
Duddy-Chavez: I’ve no doubts that John can beat Julio but will he get the decision?
By Jim Dower: I figure that middleweight contender John Duddy (29-1, 18 KO’s) will be far too experienced and talented for unbeaten Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) when they do battle later on this month for the obscure vacant WBC Silver middleweight title on June 26th at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas.
I see Duddy as being far too good for the 24-year-old Chavez to beat. However, I worry that Duddy may not get the decision no matter what he does in the ring on that night. San Antonio is pretty much a home town advantage for the Mexican Chavez Jr., and he’s got the much bigger name, thanks to his famous father Julio Cesar Chavez.

By William Mackay: Incredibly, number #1 ranked WBC junior middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. could find himself fighting Miguel Cotto if Julio can beat John Duddy on June 26th in their fight at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has a number of fight scenarios for Cotto for his next fight and one of them is to take on Chavez Jr. if he can get by Duddy on the 26th.

By Jason Kim: Unbeaten Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) and John Duddy (29-1,18 KO’s) will be fighting for the WBC Silver middleweight strap on June 26th at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas. The WBC Silver title seems almost fitting for this fight, as it’s an obscure title for a fight against two guys that are decent not quite as good as their records would seem to indicate. However, it should still be an excellent fight if Chavez Jr. can rise up to the occasion and fight at a higher level than what he’s shown against soft opposition that he’s been matched up against during his seven year pro career.

It’s kind of a scary thought, but a reality none the less. The 24-year-old Chavez Jr., the son of boxing great Julio Cesar Chavez, has a fight coming up against middleweight contender John Duddy on June 26th at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas. If Chavez wins that fight, then he would likely be put in with the winner of the Cotto-Foreman fight by Top Rank promoter Bob Arum.

This fight has some significance in that the two fighters are both ranked in their respective divisions and need the win to move forward for bigger money fights in the future. In the case of Chavez, this is a huge fight because he could be in line for a big money stadium fight against Miguel Cotto in the near future if everything goes right for him. Ranked #1 by the WBC junior middleweight division, Chavez Jr. is in position to get a title shots against WBC title holder Sergio Martinez.

Dan Rafael of ESPN, quotes Roach as saying “He [Chavez Jr.] has good skills, has a nice pop on his punch and does everything I ask for in the ring. I am working with him to sit down on his punches, not move so much while throwing.” Chavez, 24, is what you would call a diamond in the rough.

According to the Record, Chavez’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank convinced Chavez Jr., the son of famous boxing great Julio Cesar Chavez, to start training with Roach in the United States.
