Thurman: I’m going to outclass Zaveck

thurman432By Allan Fox: Undefeated welterweight contender Keith Thurman (19-0, 18 KO’s) sees himself totally dominated former IBF welterweight champion Jan Zaveck (32-2, 18 KO’s) on Saturday night in their WBO welterweight title eliminator bout on the undercard of the Bernard Hopkin vs. Tavoris Cloud bout on HBO at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA.

Thurman said “I know I am prepared. I am going to outclass him. I am confident I can steal rounds by getting inside and throwing punches.”

It’s interesting that Thurman is talking of stealing rounds, as if that’s what he would have to do in order to win the fight. Thurman isn’t the type that just tries to get inside and steal rounds.

Keith Thurman vs. Jan Zaveck this Saturday on 3/9, in Brooklyn, New York

thurman42By Dan Ambrose: This Saturday night unbeaten knockout artist Keith Thurman (19-0, 18 KO’s) faces former IBF welterweight champion Jan Zaveck (32-2, 18 KO’s) in a WBO 147 lb. title eliminator bout on HBO at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA. The winner of this match-up becomes the mandatory challenger for WBO welterweight title, which is currently held by Tim Bradley.

The Thurman-Zaveck winner will likely have to wait ages before they eventually do get a shot at the WBO belt holder, and it’s highly unlikely that Bradley will still be the title holder by then because his promoter has him in line for a number of tough fights this year, and next year.

Keith Thurman vs. Jan Zaveck in WBO 147 lb. title eliminator on 3/9

thurman32By Dan Ambrose: Former IBF welterweight champion Jan Zaveck (32-2, 18 KO’s) and unbeaten #4 WBA Keith Thurman (19-0, 18 KO’s) will be battling it out on March 9th in a WBO welterweight title eliminator bout at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The winner of the fight becomes the mandatory challenger for WBO 147 lb. champion Timothy Bradley.

You have to really like the 24-year-old Thurman’s chances at beating the soon to be 37-year-old Zaveck, and then beating Bradley as well if Thurman can get the fight with him.

Just because Thurman becomes Bradley’s mandatory doesn’t mean Bradley will necessarily face him. For starters, I think Bradley will drag his feet and make Thurman wait for well over a year, and then I see Bradley vacating rather than facing the much bigger 5’11” Thurman.

Keith Thurman vs. Jan Zaveck official for March 9th on Hopkins-Cloud undercard

thurman32423By Dan Ambrose: The match-up between welterweight contenders #1 WBO, #3 IBF, Jan Zaveck (32-2, 18 KO’s) and unbeaten Keith Thurman (19-0, 18 KO’s) is official for the undercard of the Bernard Hopkins – Tavoris Cloud card on March 9th at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA.

This is potentially a good fight if Zaveck can hold up under the pounding of the bigger, stronger and younger 24-year-old Thurman. Zaveck, 36, is 12 years older, and 3 ½” shorter than the 5’11” Thurman, and that right there could be an obstacle for Zaveck to win.

Keith Thurman vs. Jan Zaveck almost done for March 9th in WBO 147 title eliminator

thurman32By Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten welterweight contender Keith Thurman (19-0, 18 KO’s) and former IBF welterweight champion Jan Zaveck (32-2, 18 KO’s) are close to having a fight set for March 9th, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. The Thurman-Zaveck fight will be a WBO welterweight title eliminator, and it will be taking place on the undercard of the Bernard Hopkins vs. Tavoris Cloud fight card next month on March 9th at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York.

The winner of the Thurman-Zaveck fight will be the mandatory challenger for World Boxing Organization 147 lb. champion Tim Bradley.

Zaveck will be turning 37 next month, and he’s not been active since losing his International Boxing Federation 147 pound title to Andre Berto in September 2011 by a 5th round stoppage. Zaveck, 5’7 1/2”, fought only once in 2012, beating Bethuel Ushona by a 12 round unanimous decision last March.

Keith Thurman vs. Jan Zaveck possible for March 9th

thurman54By Dan Ambrose: A fight between unbeaten junior middleweight contender Keith Thurman (19-0, 18 KO’s) and former IBF welterweight champion Jan Zaveck (32-2, 18 KO’s) is possible for March 9th on the undercard of the Bernard Hopkins vs. Tavoris Cloud card at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA.

According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, a deal between the 24-year-old Thurman and the 36-year-old Zaveck has been agreed on but contracts haven’t been signed. If this fight can be put together it would be a nice one for Thurman, #2 WBO, #9 IBF, and also a pretty good one for Zaveck if he were to win it.

I think it would be a really risky fight for the 5’7 ½” Zaveck because he doesn’t have the same size as the 5’11” Thurman. However, if Zaveck agrees to the fight then there must be something he sees in Thurman’s game that makes him think that he can win this one.

Kell Brook could fight Jan Zaveck if Devon Alexander vacates IBF title

Image: Kell Brook could fight Jan Zaveck if Devon Alexander vacates IBF titleBy Scott Gilfoid: If Kell Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn is able to win a purse bid with Golden Boy Promotions, we could see a possible scenario where IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander chooses to vacate his title rather than taking the chance of going over to the UK and winding up losing his strap by a controversial decision.

Although Alexander is saying that he has no intention of giving up his IBF title this could change if he’s forced to fight Brook in the UK in front of 12,000 screaming Brits. I think Alexander is the better fighter of the two, but I question whether he can win a decision over Brook in the UK.
