Promoters De La Hoya and Shaw not interested in Marquez-Vazquez 5

Image: Promoters De La Hoya and Shaw not interested in Marquez-Vazquez 5By Jim Dower: Promoters Oscar De La Hoya and Gary Shaw are reportedly not interested in putting together a 5th bout between Rafael Marquez and Israel Vazquez, according to Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports. It’s pretty easy to see why. Vazquez, with all the scar tissue around both of his eyes, was easily cut by Marquez over the left eye in the 1st round of the fight. The cut worsened as the fight progressed and in the 3rd round, Vazquez sustained a second deep cut, this one over his right eye.

Marquez wins the 4th battle, please don’t make a 5th!

Image: Marquez wins the 4th battle, please don’t make a 5th!Photo credit – Carlos Baeza – By Peter Wells: There was always a risk in last nights fight, sometimes it’s best to stop when everything’s going right. That goes for Israel Vazquez-Rafael Marquez IV. The trilogy was great, it was exciting and dramatic; why not leave it at that, but the 4th battle was not the same. It only went 3 rounds and was all Marquez, it lacked everything the last 3 had. Many people including myself have the trilogy on DVD, but there’s no chance I’m going to buy the 4th. Watching these fights after they’ve happened isn’t as bad but to watch it live it’s just not the same.

With Vazquez cut over both eyes in the 3rd, Marquez knocked him down with a powerful looping right hand that put Vazquez on one knee. After he got up, Marquez was all over him, backing him up to the ropes and unloading on until the referee stepped in and stopped the bout at 1:33 of the round. Vazquez was cut badly over his left eye in the 2nd round.

Image: Look for Marquez and Vazquez to beat the stuffing out of each other tonightBy Jim Dower: Tonight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Israel Vazquez (44-4, 32 KO’s) and Rafael Marquez (38-5, 34 KO’s) will be for the 4th time in the past three years in a fight that will likely leave both fighters bloodied and battered by the end of it. Beristain talks Pacquiao, Khan, Katsidis, Vazquez-Marquez

By Eric Thomas: In an article at Boxingtalk.com, trainer Nacho Beristain says that his fighter Juan Manuel Marquez received an offer from Manny Pacquiao’s promotional team Top Rank, but says it was a “miserable deal,” one that he didn’t want to take. He pointed out that it wasn’t an official offer, but he wasn’t willing to accept it for a third fight between Pacquiao and Marquez. The two fighters have fought twice with the first fight ending in a 12 round draw and the second resulting in a narrow 12 round split decision win for Pacquiao in 2008.

Will Israel Vazquez’s surgically repaired eye hold up against Marquez?

By Jim Dower: Israel Vazquez (44-4, 32 KO’s) will be coming into this Saturday’s fight against Rafael Martinez with a right eye that has been operated on three times since 2008 for a series of detached retinas. Vazquez, 32, originally suffered an initial detached retina in his third fight with Marquez in March 2008. Although Vazquez won the fight by a 12 round split decision after suffering the injury to his right eye early in the bout, he paid a big price for it.

Vazquez-Marquez meet for the 4th time this Saturday night

By Chris Williams: Israel Vazquez (44-4, 32 KO’s) and Rafael Marquez (38-5, 34 KO’s) meet for the 4th time in their career this Saturday night at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles, California. The fight is more like an old timer’s fight rather than a fight between two relevant contenders, unfortunately. Vazquez and Marquez, due their three previous wars in the past three years, have used each other up to the point where it’s kept them out of the ring.

Israel Vazquez vs. Rafael Marquez this Saturday: Does anyone care?

By Jim Dower: Rafael Marquez (38-5, 34 KO’s) and Israel Vazquez (44-4, 32 KO’s) will fight for the 4th title this Saturday night at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles, California. Despite the excitement of their three previous fights with one another, boxing fans have pretty much ignored this fight altogether. The fighters haven’t helped themselves in that they’ve only fought two times a piece in the past three years and haven’t stayed in the public eye due to this inactivity. Their previous three fights took a lot out of both fighters with both of them taking a massive amount of punishment in the bouts, especially Vazquez.

Vazquez-Marquez IV set for May 22nd – News

By Peter Wells: After three great wars, Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez will step into the ring for the fourth time against each other, in what is promised to be the best yet. It will be a night to remember and is near enough impossible to call. Whatever happens in their other fights has nothing to do with what will happen this time; both fighters suddenly fight like they are 25 and give everything for as long as it goes. Two old school fighters slugging it out is many fans dream fight.
