Golovkin vs. Adama this Saturday in Monte Carlo

Bew9paQCIAACZ1-By Allan Fox: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25 KO’s) will be defending his title this Saturday night against #12 WBA, Osumanu Adama (22-3, 16 KO’s) in what appears to be a mismatch at the Salle des etoiles, Monte Carlo, Monaco.

The 33-year-old Adama has tried to convince anyone who would listen that he’s going to beat Golovkin, but there’s nothing in his recent resume that would give a hint of that happening. Adama was easily beaten by Daniel Geale in 2012, and before that beaten by Don George. Those losses would eliminate pretty much any chance of Adama pulling off an uposet on Saturday night against Golovkin.

This fight won’t be televised by HBO in the United States on Saturday due to the logistical nightmares involved. There’s not much point of HBO packing a huge production team to Monte Carlo to televise a fight that will very likely be over in 3 rounds with Golovkin destroying the over-matched Adama.

Golovkin vs. Adama won’t be televised on HBO

golovkin45By Eric Thomas: The February 1st match-up between WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25 KO’s) and his 32-year-old challenger Osumanu Adama (22-3, 16 KO’s) won’t be picked up by HBO and televised to the U.S. audiences like Golovkin’s last couple of fights against Curtis Stevens and Matthew Macklin. The Golovkin-Adama fight takes place at the Salle des etoiles, Monte Carlo, Monaco.

K2 Promotions’ idea of staging the Golovkin-Adama fight all the way over in Monte Carlo rather than placing it in the United States probably hurt any chances of the fight being televised. HBO would have had to send a huge crew all the way to Monaco for a fight that likely wouldn’t attract huge ratings. To be sure, Golovkin is a popular fighter, but Adama is not and he’s not a relevant fighter either. K2 picked a fringe contender ranked #12 by the WBA for Golovkin to fight instead of picking out a well known opponent in the top 5.

Golovkin still wants Mayweather fight

golovkin5623By Chris Williams: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin is still hoping that he can get a fight against the much lighter Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the near future. Golovkin sees this as his dream fight, and he thinks the boxing public would be really excited about watching the fight. Golovkin has almost run out of opposition at 160 that’s willing to fight him, and he’s now at the point where he’s trying to pool opposition from the junior middleweight division for his matches.

“It is possible, this is my present, it is my dream fight,” Golovkin said to On the Ropes Boxing Radio. “I think it’s a very interesting fight, for fans, for TV, for everybody. I know I work with HBO, Floyd is with Showtime, but I asked my promoter and he told me it’s possible. I hope.”

Golovkin’s promoter has MSG reserved for him on April 26th

golovkin454By Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s promoters at K2 has already reserved Madison Square Garden in New York for Golovkin’s April 26th fight. Although they’re not saying who Golovkin will be facing on that date, it’s been talked about that he’ll be facing James Kirkland.

Kirkland vs. Golovkin is a good fight and might might be interesting if Kirkland tries to go toe-to-toe with Golovkin the way Kirkland fought Glen Tapia recently. Kirkland blew out Tapia in 6 rounds last December.

Hearn wants to match Froch against Chavez Jr., Golovkin or Ward next

froch56267By Scott Gilfoid: Well, it looks like George Groves (19-1, 15 KO’s) can pretty much forget about a rematch with IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (32-2, 23 KO’s), because his promoter Eddie Hearn says he’s trying to set Froch’s next fight up and he’s hoping to match him against one of the following fighters: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Gennady Golovkin or Andre Ward.

Yeah, Groves remains an option too, but my understand is he’s more of the last resort for Froch if he can’t get one of those bouts. Froch could fight Groves if Hearn isn’t able to nail down one of those bigger names for the aging soon to be 37-year-old Froch.

Roach: Cotto can beat Golovkin, Canelo and Sergio Martinez

cotto674By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Freddie Roach thinks 33-year-old Miguel Cotto (38-4, 31 KO’s) has got the talent to beat Gennady Golovkin, Sergio Martinez and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez before he finishes his career. Right now, though, Roach wants Cotto to face Sergio Martinez next, because he thinks Martinez, 38, is at the very end of his career, and he wants Cotto to be able to pick him off before he gets out of the sport.

Although Roach thinks Golovkin is a good fighter, he doesn’t believe he’s got a big name, and he thinks he’s been protected by his promoters at K2.

“I’d like to get Martinez first because he’s an old man.,” Roach said to Radio Raheem. “Martinez is at the end of his career, and I’d like to get him sooner rather than later…He’s [Golovkin] a good solid fighter, [and] well protected. It’s not the biggest name in the world right now, because he’s being protected and he’s not fighting major fights yet.

Sanchez: Golovkin isn’t ready for a Ward fight

golovkin41By Allan Fox: Abel Sanchez, the trainer for WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25 KO’s), says they’re not ready to move up to the 168 lb. division to face WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward at this time. Sanchez says that Golovkin is ready to face him in terms of being capable of taking the fight, but they still have too many fighters at 160 that they still haven’t fought yet.

Sanchez sees it as pointless for Golovkin to move up in weight to fight Ward at this time when there are a lot of interesting fights that still need to be made for Golovkin in the middleweight division.

Golovkin picks Pacquiao to easily beat Provodnikov

provodnikov7By Chris Williams: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin likes fellow Russian fighter Ruslan Provodnikov (23-2, 16 KO’s) a lot, but as far him having a chance to beat Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) in their proposed fight on April 12th in Las Vegas, Golovkin doesn’t see Provodmikov as having any chance of beating Manny. Golovki doesn’t explain why he feels this way. He just thinks Pacquiao will easily beat the hard hitting Provodnikov.

“You know, I know Ruslan,” Golovkin said to Hustleboss. “I respect him. I think he’s nothing for Manny. He doesn’t have a chance. He’s [Pacquiao] come back. It’s great.”
