Daniel Geale to face Gennady Golovkin on 7/26 at MSG

golovkin44By Allan Fox: A fight between WBA middleweight Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26 KO’s) and former IBF/WBA 160lb. champion Daniel Geale (30-2, 16 KO’s) has been given the green light for July 26th, according to AAP. The World Boxing Association granted Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler’s request to let Golovkin bypass an WBA ordered title defense against #2 WBA Jarrod Fletcher in order to take a bigger and far more interesting fight against Geale.

The Golovkin-Geale fight will be televised by HBO. It’s possible that the co-feature will see heavyweights Bryant Jennings and Mike Perez facing each other in a battle of unbeaten heavyweights. The fight card is probably going to need a lot more than this for it to have a chance of selling out the garden because the Australian Geale doesn’t have a fan base in the New York area, and Golovkin still isn’t a huge ticket seller either.

Kellerman: Froch would be a signifcant underdog against Golovkin and Ward

froch#3By Scott Gilfoid: Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KO’s) got a nice little win tonight in beating Britain’s George Groves (19-2, 15 KO’s) for a second time in the last 6 months. Froch’s win now has people talking about his next opponent in line. James DeGale would like to be the next guy that faces him, and he took care of business earlier tonight in his IBF super middleweight title eliminator in stopping Brandon Gonzales.

There word from Dan Rafael is that his promoter Eddie Hearn is possibly interested in a fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Roy Jones Jr., a commentator for HBO, believes that Chavez Jr. is a much better match-up for Froch than Gennady Golovkin would be. Max Kellerman of HBO is in agreement with that too.

Golovkin wants Cotto-Martinez winner

golovkin4566By Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26 KO’s) is hoping he can get a shot at the winner of the June 7th fight between WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez vs. Miguel Cotto. Golovkin matches up well with either of these guys, and it would give Golovkin his first big name of his career.

Golovkin thought he was close to getting a fight against former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, but the negotiations between the two fighters’ teams fell apart recently leaving Golovkin staring at a fight against either Daniel Geale, who was beaten last year by Darren Barker, or Jarrod Fletcher. Neither option is particularly interesting.

Golovkin to fight on July 26th, possibly against Geale

golovkin22By Allan Fox: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26 KO’s) will be fighting on July 26th at Madison Square Garden in New York against an opponent still to be determined. Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions is going to make a request to the World Boxing Association to get permission for Golovkin to bypass #2 WBA Jarrod Fletcher, who the WBA recently ordered Golovkin to fight next, for him to get a more interesting fight against former IBF/WBA middleweight champion Daniel Geale 30-2, 16 KO’s) on July 26th.

“GGG says he will fight twice more this year. Wants to continue to stay active #boxing,” said Steve Kim. “Loeffler says they have filed a special request to the WBA for GGG to face Danny Geale next. GGG to fight on July 26th at MSG according to Tom Loeffler.”

WBA orders Gennady Golovkin to start negotiations with Jarrod Fletcher

golovkin5By Dan Ambrose: The World Boxing Association has reportedly ordered WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26 KO’s) to start the negotiation process with #2 WBA Jarrod Fletcher (18-1, 10 KO’s), according to Fightnews.com. Golovkin had been hoping to get a fight against former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., but the negotiations fell apart due to various reasons.

By ordering Golovkin to start negotiations with the 30-year-old Australian Fletcher, they’re giving Golovkin would appears to be one of his more easier title defenses. Fletcher is a fighter who hasn’t beaten anyone that you can call a really good fighter during his 5-year pro career. When he attempted to step it up slightly against Billy Joe Saunders, who is far from a great fighter, Fletcher was stopped in the 2nd round two years ago.

It’s not about money with Chavez Jr.

chavez jr5454By Robert “Big Moe” Elmore: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr wants to fight middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. But he wants to do it on his terms. Top Rank wants to do the fight, but it comes with conditions that Chavez wants nothing to do with; a contract extension. Chavez is not ducking this fight or being a prima donna like some have claimed.

Nor did he price himself out. This is a pay per view event we are talking about here and would do quite well. Billy Keane, Chavez’s manager, told yahoo sports that Julio was offered 6.6 million dollar guarantee, but it came with a two fight extension. The biggest offer was a 7 million dollar with a one fight extension. If Chavez beat Golovkin, he would get a 10 million dollar guarantee and 5 million if he lost.

Golovkin vs. Geale in the works

golovkin43By Scott Gilfoid: With the previously scheduled fight between former IBF/WBA middleweight champion Daniel Geale and Matthew Macklin now dead in the water, a fight between Geale and WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26 KO’s) is reportedly in the works. Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions had been in negotiations with Top Rank for a fight against super middleweight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., but the negotiations have gone nowhere and Golovkin and his team are moving on.

Geale is moving on as well rather than looking to reschedule a fight against Macklin. Their fight was supposed to take place on the Bryant Jennings vs. Mike Perez heavyweight clash on May 25th, but the card was cancelled following a shoulder injury that Perez suffered while training for the Jennings fight.

Quillin wants Golovkin fight

golovkin2By Dan Ambrose: WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin (31-0, 22 KO’s) says he’d like nothing better than to face WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26 KO’s) in a unification fight as soon as possible. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer says he’s waiting for an offer from Golovkin’s promoters at K2 Promotions. However, the one thing that could prevent the fight from ever taking place is the network obstacles. Quillin fights for Showtime, while Golovin fights on HBO. Getting one of them to allow their fighters to fight on their rival network may prove all but impossible.

“I’m right here, Let’s stop talking about it. Let’s f**** do it,” Quillin said. “Golovkin is supposed to be this big bad wolf. But the opponents that they get for him are not too much better than the guys that I am fighting. I’ll fight him. He’s a monster? I’ve never been scared of any monsters.”

Chavez Jr-Golovkin not likely to happen

chavez01By Dan Ambrose: The July showdown between former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (48-1-1, 32 KO’s), now fighting in the super middleweight division, and WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26 KO’s) doesn’t look like it’s going to happen now, as Top Rank wants Chavez Jr. to sign an extension before they’ll make that fight happen, according to ESPN.

Top Rank was still willing to make the fight between the two, but with Chavez Jr. making less money than he would if he signed an extension. However, Chavez Jr. wants the bigger money deal to get the Golovkin fight, minus the extension. Chavez Jr’s contract with Top Rank expires next year in October of 2015.

Chavez Jr. won’t sign extension with Top Rank for Golovkin fight

chavez67655By Chris Williams: Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (48-1-1, 32 KO’s) says he won’t sign a 3-fight extension with Top Rank, as he wants to be a free agent after his final fight of his contract with Top Rank is up, according to ESPN Deportes. Chavez Jr. says he’ll fight Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26 KO’s) on July 19th, but he’s not going to sign an extension of 3 fights just to get that fight. Chavez Jr. wants to be a free agent to fight whoever he pleases for the most money available instead of being locked into agreements for multiple fights.

“What happens is that they [Top Rank] want the contract extension and I not extend anything,” Chavez Jr. said to ESPN Deportes. “I’m ready to sign for the fight, but then be a free agent and fight with who suites me as everybody does without extensions in a fight by fight.”
