Is Danny Garcia an option for Floyd Mayweather Jr?

EW5G6223(Photo credit: Lucas Noonan/Premier Boxing Champions) By Gerardo Granados: After dominating a past prime TV Analyst Paul Malignaggi the question left to answer is if Danny Garcia will face a real challenge at 147 on his next bout. It’s true that Garcia was able to stop Malignaggi on the ninth round and dominated the full fight but it is also true that boxing purist and hardcore fight fans cannot be surprised and only a few casual fans should be deluded to think that this was a significant victory for Garcia´s record.

Unarguably Garcia has a marketable name and has been fortunate to have influential promoters behind him so Danny with ease could get a shot at IBF welter belt holder Kell Brook or WBO welter belt holder Tim Bradley. Some Casual fans could believe Garcia is the second coming of Tito Trinidad or Wilfred Benitez but nothing is farther from the truth. Not the less Danny took a big check worth 1.2 million notes so it is obvious that smart matchmaking allows more than one boxer to face low risk high reward opposition without the need to prove that they are deserving of a million notes purse.

Thurman: I have the skills to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr

thurman4By Dan Ambrose: WBA “regular” welterweight champion Keith Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) said last Saturday night that he’s waiting and hoping to get a fight against WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs). Thurman believes he’s got the talent to beat the 38-year-old Mayweather, and he just wants a shot at fighting him.

Thurman thinks that Mayweather should answer the question of whether or not he wants to face him inside the ring because he’s ready to take the fight with him whenever he offers it to him. Thurman thinks he’s got the talent to defeat Mayweather when the time comes for the two of them to face each other. I don’t believe Thurman has anywhere near the same kind of talent that Mayweather has going for him.

Mayweather will fight beyond Berto clash, says Rosado

Floyd Mayweather JrBy Dan Ambrose: Many fans believe that WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. will continue fighting beyond his next fight on September 12th, which is believed to be against WBA interim 147lb champion Andre Berto. The money for that fight won’t be anything near the money that Mayweather made in his last fight against Manny Pacquiao last May, and it might prove to be a more difficult for Mayweather.

Berto isn’t the type to back off after getting hit by a few right hands like Pacquiao backed off. Berto will continue to fight and look to land hard power shots in retaliation with his fast hands. Former world title challenger Gabriel Rosado thinks that Mayweather’s ego won’t allow him to stay retired for long.

Khan: Mayweather is scared; he knows I can give him his first loss

khan56By Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF/WBA 140lb champion Amir “King” Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) disagrees with the recent reports that Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) has decided to pass him over for his September 12th fight because of his constant trash talking about him in trying to get a fight.

Khan believes that the reason why Mayweather has passed him over for the fight isn’t because of his trash talking, but rather than because he’s scared to fight him. Khan thinks Mayweather is afraid that he might lose if he were to face him.

Floyd Mayweather Jr and the curse of being number 1

Floyd Mayweather vs Manny PacquiaoBy Yannis Mihanos: To be at the top spot in any sport means that you have beaten the best out there. Still, the quest as number 1 never ends.

To stay on top and reign supreme means that you still need to work hard, you still have to take care of business. There is no rest for the number 1. So except from a gift, it can also be seen as curse for those who can’t handle the pressure.

Today in boxing, things have changed and don’t happen like they used to. Often fighters to stay on top for long periods of time choose the easy way out: They take on lesser challenges more often, they pick opponents that can easily beat with eyes closed and hands tied.

Issues holding back Mayweather’s September 12th fight

Floyd Mayweather vs Manny PacquiaoBy Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr’s September 12th fight is being held back by issues involving his future fights if he chooses to continue fighting beyond his September 12th date.

According to Dan Rafael, Showtime/CBS wants rights to Mayweather’s future fights if he decides to keep his career going after his next fight date. Supposedly, this is going to be Mayweather’s last fight of his career in September. However, if he changes his mind about retiring and decides to sign up with HBO to go for his 50th win of his career, Showtime/CBS is looking to protect their investment, says Rafael.

Boxing politics

Floyd Mayweather JrBy John Simmons: It is an amusing thing to watch the social media pages and see fans and media a like appeal or defend the situation in boxing right now, with the Haymon & Golden Boy feud hitting fever pitch in recent weeks we can start to see the fractures become worse.

While the world awaits an opponent for Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. the media and rookie fans are starting to decide the opponent themselves and have even gone as far writing articles on Andre Berto the man they believe has gotten the nod from Floyd Mayweather, further more they have begun to attack Showtime sports for their inability to name an opponent straight away. Something we all know has nothing to do with them but is Floyd’s choice alone.

Mayweather vs. Berto is a good fight if it’s on CBS, says Kellerman

Floyd Mayweather vs Manny PacquiaoBy Allan Fox: If Floyd Mayweather Jr. does go ahead and fight former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto on September 12th, HBO analyst Max Kellerman is all for the idea of that fight taking place, as long as it’s on CBS and not pay-per-view.

Kellerman thinks that Berto is a well-known fighter in terms of the casual boxing fans, and it makes a lot of sense for Mayweather to fight him rather than guys like Kell Brook, Keith Thurman or Amir Khan, who either haven’t looked good recently or aren’t well-known to the American public.

Kellerman wants Mayweather to fight Golovkin

golovkin994By Allan Fox: HBO analyst Max Kellerman says he’d like to see superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) take a chance and fight WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) before he retires from the sport. Kellerman doesn’t like the idea of Mayweather fighting former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto on Showtime pay-per-view.

Kellerman thinks that will be a tough ask to try and get boxing fans to purchase a potential mismatch like that after the fiasco that took place last May with Mayweather’s win over Manny Pacquiao. That fight turned out to be a dull affair with Mayweather beating a passive looking Pacquiao.

Mosley wants rematches against Canelo, Cotto, De La Hoya, Mayweather & Pacquiao

mosley2312By Dan Ambrose: 43-year-old former three division world champion Shane Mosley (47-9-1, 39 KOs) has won only one fight in the past five years dating back to 2010, yet he wants rematches against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, Manny Pacquiao and Winky Wright.

In other words, Wright wants rematches against guys he either was beaten by or had close victories. Interestingly enough, Mosley doesn’t see himself as a shot fighter despite the fact that he’s lost 4 out of his last 6 fights.
