Golovkin is too big for Mayweather

golovkin45By Bob Smith: With the final fight of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s career fast approaching, and with the news that he selected Andre Berto, many in the commentary business are treating the match with scorn, suggesting that it is an obvious mismatch, that Mayweather is cherry picking again, and that he is too scared to fight Amir Khan (who is supposedly too fast), Keith Thurman (a hungry lion with power and boxing skill) or Kell Brook (boxing skill, undefeated).

Some even suggest that a match with Tim Bradley Jr.  would be better (which it would be, by the way). But the most common suggestion is that Mayweather fight WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin at a catch-weight of about 154 pounds.

Pacquiao still wants rematch with Mayweather in 2016

Image: Pacquiao still wants rematch with Mayweather in 2016By Chris Williams: While Floyd Mayweather Jr. is talking about retiring after his next fight on September 12th in his fight against Andre Berto, former eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao is insisting that he still wants a rematch with Mayweather in 2016 so that he can avenge what he feels was a controversial 12 round decision loss last May at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pacquiao still believes that he should have been given the decision over Mayweather because he was taking the fight to him and was the one doing all the work. However, if Mayweather is to change his decision about retiring then it’s going to take the action of Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank to try and talk Mayweather out of it by reminding him that they would like a rematch with him.

Mayweather: There will be knockdowns and blood in Berto fight

Floyd Mayweather(Esther Lin/Showtime) By Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Jr. expects to go out with a huge bang in his September 12th fight against former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs) on Showtime pay-per-view. Mayweather says the fight will be filled with blood and knockdowns. If so, this is going to be one of Mayweather’s more interesting bouts because it’s been a while since one of his fights involved a knockdown.

There was blood in his first fight against Marcos Maidana, but it was Mayweather’s own blood after he suffered a cut from a head clash. The last time someone was knocked down in one of Mayweather’s fights was in 2011, when Victor Ortiz was dropped from a left-right combination while he had his hands down by his sides after he hugged Mayweather to say he was sorry from head-butting him moments before.

Mayweather not interested in fighting Ronda Rousey

_DSC1173(Photo credit: Idris Erba/Mayweather Promotions) By Chris Williams: In the last few weeks there has been a large amount of MMA fans of the sport trying to drive up interest in a fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) and UFC female bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey (12-0, 3 KOs) in a fight that would take place by MMA rules. When the question was put to Mayweather about him possibly stepping into the octagon to fight Ronda Rousey, Mayweather shot down the idea. He saw the ideas a joke.

It’s unthinkable to assume that the plump looking Rousey could ever beat a fighter as talented and as gifted as Mayweather, even if he fought her under the rules of the MMA sport. Rousey has been scoring fast submission victories over women with limited experience.

Khan lashes out at Mayweather, labels him “childish”

khan999999666(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Scott Gilfoid: Well, it looks like Amir Khan didn’t take the advice too well from Floyd Mayweather Jr. about him still needing to fight Danny Garcia again in order to clear up his disastrous 4th round knockout loss from three years ago in 2012.

Instead of Khan agreeing with Mayweather and thanking him for his advice, Khan lashed out at him, calling him childish and saying that he won’t go down in history as one of the great fighters. Why is Mayweather childish and not a boxing great? Well, because he told Khan that he still has Danny Garcia problems, and he passed him up for a big money fight on September 12th in favor of WBA interim welterweight champion Andre Berto.

Berto bites the hand that feeds, calls Mayweather boring

_DSC0743(Photo credit: Idris Erba/Mayweather Promotions) By Chris Williams: You would think that with Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs) being given a huge career high payday fight against unbeaten WBA/WBC 147lb champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) that he would be grateful and extremely thankful to Mayweather for bestowing his gift of a payday and perhaps a career lifesaver for him, but instead Berto is showing anything kindness in return for the honor.

Berto is now calling Mayweather a boring fighter, and seeing himself as the opposite of Mayweather. That’s obviously hard to stomach when you realize how many poor performances Berto has had in his last six fights.

Mayweather: Nobody has to buy the fight

Floyd Mayweather and Andre Berto(Photo credit: Esther Lin/SHOWTIME) By Chris Williams: The criticism that has been leveled down on the head of Floyd Mayweather Jr. since he announced his fight against Andre Berto has been nothing short of fierce from the boxing community. This hasn’t been lost on Mayweather, who took a moment to respond on it during yesterday’s kickoff press conference in Los Angeles, California.

Mayweather simply pointed out the obvious in saying that if fans don’t want to see the fight then they shouldn’t buy it. But as far as he’s concerned, he sees Berto as a tough opponent, and a fighter that will bring excitement in every moment of the fight. If boxing fans don’t agree with him, then they’re welcome not to buy the fight.

Mayweather: Khan isn’t getting the fight because he has to get past Danny Garcia

Floyd Mayweather(Photo credit: Esther Lin/SHOWTIME) By Scott Gilfoid: Floyd Mayweather Jr. spelled it out tonight why he isn’t fighting Britain’s Amir Khan on September 12th by saying that Khan didn’t do what he had to do by facing Danny Garcia to try and avenge his earlier loss to him three years ago. With Mayweather saying that he’s not fighting Khan because he never avenged his loss to Danny Garcia, he’s shut the door on him ever fighting Khan. The reason why the door is permanently shut on Mayweather vs. Khan taking place is because Khan isn’t going to fight Garcia. If he was going to, he would have already done it by now, wouldn’t he?

Khan has been talking nonstop about how Mayweather is ducking him, and how he’s afraid to fight him because of his hand speed. But according to Mayweather the reason why he’s chosen not to fight Khan is because the guy simply wouldn’t even try and avenge his 4th round knockout loss from 2012.

Mayweather talks Berto, Khan, Thurman & Spence

Floyd Mayweather(Photo credit: Esther Lin/SHOWTIME) By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) made it clear today at the kickoff press conference at the J.W. Marriott Los Angeles L.A. Live that his fight against Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs) on September 12th will be the last one of his long 19-year-old career. Mayweather says he values his health too much to continue on after this fight. He just walks to walk away after this fight, and he feel very satisfied with what he’s accomplished with his long career.

“I chose Berto because he’s very exciting. I’ve been getting backlash. No one is forced to buy the fight. Andre Berto is going to push Floyd Mayweather to the limit. Berto is a tough competitor. He’s a very tough guy, hungry. The difference between Berto and Manny Pacquiao is you guys put all the hype in Manny Pacquiao, that’s what the media did. This fight is a very interesting match-up. I said to myself who is always in an exciting fight? Who has fast hands? Who has always been in an exciting fight?”

Berto’s trainer has simple game plan for him to crack the MayVinci code

floyd6666By Allan Fox: Virgil Hunter, the trainer for former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs), says he’s going to have the 31-year-old Berto come into his fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) with a simple game plan for him to crack the MayVinci code when they get inside the ring on September 12th.

Hunter doesn’t want Berto to have a complicated plan when he gets inside the ring with Mayweather, because he feels that those types of plans don’t work against a fighter like Mayweather. Hunter sees the simple plans on being the best against Mayweather.
