huck563By Allan Fox: A rematch between WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (35-2-1, 25 KO’s) and Firat Arslan (32-6-2, 22 KO’s) is possible for this summer, according to Kalle Sauerland. Huck defeated the 42-year-old Arslan by a controversial 12 round unanimous decision last November in Germany in a fight that Arslan dominated.

The judges gave Huck the decision by the scores of 115-113, 115-113, and 117-111. Huck took a real beating in that fight, and appeared to only win four rounds at best, but the judges gave it to him anyway. 2012 was a really lucky year for Huck because he perhaps should have lost all three of his fights that he had.

Sauerland says that boxing experts chose Huck as deserving the win over Arslan despite a huge amount of fans thinking otherwise. Huck was given the scores of 115-113, 115-113 and 117-111 by the judges.

Whilst there weren’t any huge fights to get us going this week, we did have some good contests over the course of the week that were worth taking note of and that is what I will be discussing, focusing predominantly on the Lucian Bute, Marco Huck fights with some of the British boxing action being mixed in.

Image: Arslan lands with higher connect percentage than Huck but still winsBy Dan Ambrose: Firat Arslan did what he had to do to earn a decision last night against WBO cruiderweight champion Marco Huck, but the judges still didn’t go along with the program and awarded Huck a decision despite Arslan landing with a far better connect percentage. The three judges were unanimous in seeing Huck as the winner, giving him the controversial decision by the scores of 115-113, 115-113 and 117-111.

According to Bild.de, Arslan landed 235 of 684 punches for a 34 percent connect percentage, whereas Huck connected on 241 of 857 shots for 28 percent. What could have thrown the judges off in scoring the fight was Huck’s higher workrate, but you’d have to be blind not to notice that Huck’s shots were getting blocked all night long. He wasn’t scoring cleanly and it was pretty clear just in watching that he wasn’t having much luck in landing.

Image: Arslan: I was robbed of my victory over HuckBy Allan Fox: #8 WBO Firat Arslan (32-6-2, 21 KO’s) was disgusted with the scoring of his fight with WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (35-2-1, 25 KO’s) last night at the Gerry Weber Stadium, Halle, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. Huck won the fight by a 12 round unanimous decision by a set of scores 115-113, 115-113 and 117-111. However, boxing fans at the stadium felt that Arslan should have won, and many fans who watched the fight on television also believed that Huck didn’t do enough to win.

Arslan said after the fight “I’ve seldom landed so many clean punches and he only scuffed me. How can such a thing happen? I landed so many punches. I think the whole crowd believes I’m the winner. I’ve been robbed of my win. I would have been the new world champion today, I would have written history.”

Image: Huck looks poor against Arslan; Wladimir fight not a good ideaBy Dan Ambrose: WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (35-2-1, 25 KO’s) proved tonight in beating Firat Arslan (32-6, 21 KO’s) that he doesn’t stand a chance against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (58-3, 50 KO’s) in his hoped for his fight in early 2013. Huck’s promoters at Sauerland Events offered Wladimir 5 million euros [$6.5 million] to fight Huck next year.

That might have been a tempting offer for Wladimir before tonight but after seeing how badly Huck struggled to beat 42-year-old Arlan by a 12 round unanimous decision it’s pretty clear that the 27-year-old Huck doesn’t belong in the same ring with the bigger 6’6″ Wladimir. Huck had his head snapped back by Arslan’s uppercuts all night tonight, and it’s hard to understand what the judges saw in Huck’s performance to give him the victory.

The final judges’ scores were 115-113, 115-113, 117-111.

Huck took a real beating in the fight, getting hammered in every round by huge uppercuts from the much superior inside fighter Arslan. The uppercut shots would snap Huck’s head each time they’d land cleanly. Huck threw more punches but most of his shots were picked off on the gloves of Arslan.

Image: Huck vs. Arslan tonight(Picture: Photo Wende) By Allan Fox: WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (34-2-1, 25 KO’s) will be facing old timer 42-year-old former World Boxing Association (WBA) World cruiserweight champion Firat Arslan (32-5-2, 21 KO’s) tonight in a fight that is pretty much shapes up to be a mismatch at the Gerry Weber Stadium, Halle, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. Arslan is a good fighter for older guy, but he’s not in Huck’s league and is no doubt going to get knocked out in this fight unless Huck carries him for the full 12 rounds.

Arslan, #8 WBO, has won three out of his last four fights, but is coming off of an ugly 12 round draw against Alexander Alekseev last May. That’s really who should be fighting right now, not Huck for the World Boxing Organization title. However, Arslan is a recognizable name for German fans, and it makes the fight a bigger draw than if Huck were to fight a higher ranked guy like #1 WBO BJ Flores.

Arslan, #8 WBO, seems to have been hand-picked for no other reason that he’s born in Germany and is well known among the boxing fans there. Arslan couldn’t have been picked out for what he’s done recently because he’s coming off of a draw against Alexander Alekseev and was stopped in the 11th round two years ago by Steve Herelius.

Image: Huck-Arslan winner must face AfolabiBy Jason Kim: The November 3rd winner of the title fight between WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (34-2-1, 25 KO’s) and Firat Arslan (32-5-2, 21 KO’s) got some bad news on Friday with the WBO order for the winner of the fight to face WBO interim cruiserweight champion Ola Ofolabi (19-2-4, 9 KO’s) within 180 days.

Huck, 27, probably doesn’t like that idea at all because he struggled to a gift 12 round draw against Afolabi last May in a fight where Huck deserved to lost by at least two rounds. He looked really poor in that fight but it took place in Germany where he’s almost impossible to beat.
