By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special One” Brook will be officially defending his title against mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jr. on May 27 at Bramall Lane in Sheffield, England. The news was announced today by Brook and his promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport. Brook and Spence met at press conference today. During their face off, Spence towered over Brook, staring him down and trash talking him. Brook looked nervous and very afraid. His surgically repaired right eye appeared to be in good shape though. Brook at least has that going for him. Spence looked like he wanted to tear Brook apart right then and there. Brook didn’t look like he was fighting shape, however. I could see a slight double chin for Brook. It’s going to be tough for Brook to lose all that weight to get down to 147 without draining himself. If he doesn’t win the fight, he’ll have a good excuse. He can blame it on the weight.

It’s good that Brook has got his dream to fight at Bramall Lane, as that’s something he’s always wanted to do. However, it’s too bad that he’s facing a guy that will likely beat him by a knockout, because it doesn’t look good for Brook.

By Scott Gilfoid: Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 Kos) says he’s going to wear IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) with body shots, and then switch upstairs to knock him out in their fight on May 27. Spence isn’t giving away his specific game plan for the fight against the 30-year-old Brook, as he always throws body shots in all of his fights. Hitting Brook in the body is just a standard thing that Spence is doing. Whether Brook can handle getting hit to the bread basket is the big question.

Dibella: Spence has never fought anyone like Brook

Image: Dibella: Spence has never fought anyone like Brook

By Scott Gilfoid: American promoter Lou Dibella refuses to make a prediction on the May 20 fight between IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook and unbeaten 2012 U.S Olympian Errol Spence Jr. for their fight in Sheffield, England. What Dibella will say is the 26-year-old Spence has never fought anyone as good as the 30-year-old Brook before during his short 4-year pro career. That’s obvious though, as Spence (21-0, 18 KOs) has only had a handful of fights against quality opposition. But the same can be said for Brook, whose resume is embarrassingly empty of talented fighters.
