By William Mackay: In the latest news from Ring magazine, WBA lightweight champion Edwin Valero once again repeated his interest in getting big money fights against Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez, despite the fact that Valero has yet to prove that he belongs in the same ring with either of them at this point.

Pacquiao to Fight on October 17th
By Manuel Perez: It appears that Manny Pacquiao is planning on returning to the ring in another five months to fight against a still to be determined opponent on October 17th. While there’s been a ton of stuff from Freddie Roach about Pacquiao fighting Miguel Cotto or Shane Mosley at a catch weight, I don’t see it happening.
Looking at Pacquiao’s Next Bout
By Manuel Perez: Although nothing has yet to be said about who Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent will be, you can bet that it won’t be dangerous fighters like Miguel Cotto or Shane Mosley. There’s no way that Bob Arum is going to let Pacquiao be out in with such risky fighters like these when there’s a potential huge money fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. just down the road.
How Far Can Raw Power Take Edwin Valero?
By Steven Pink: The big puncher has always held a special place in the heart of the boxing fan. Since the inception of the sport, boxing’s concussive hitters have drawn the crowds, provoked expectations and thrilled audiences the world over. Anytime a renowned knockout artist steps into the ring a palpable frisson of excitement is to be expected. Boxing remains the only sport where a seemingly unassailable lead can be rendered obsolete in the blink of an eye.
Does Valero Deserve a Big Money Fight?
By Dave Lahr: I almost lost it when I heard that World Boxing Council lightweight champion Edwin Valero (25-0, 25 KOs) wasn’t planning on fighting Colombian Breidis Prescott (21-0, 18 KOs) on July 25th after all, and that Valero’s manager was saying that Valero, 27, is only interested in fighting “big names” for big money. It seems an insane request because Valero hasn’t fought anyone himself, and seems like the last person that should be thinking that he should be in the position for a big money fight.
News – Chavez Jr. Interested in Pacquiao Bout; Valero Doesn’t Want Prescott
By Jim Dower: Undefeated light middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (39-0-1, 29 KOs) is reportedly interested in a fight with Manny Pacquiao and feels that it would be “an honor” to fight him. Chavez Jr., 23, would appear to be the least likely opponent that Pacquiao would be interested in fighting for a number of reasons, starting with Chavez Jr’s size. Julio fights as a light middleweight, and it would probably be quite difficult for him to get down to what would likely be a bout at 140.

On the same card with be undefeated light middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (39-0-1, 29 KOs) against a still to be determined opponent.
Did Valero Prove Anything in Beating Pitalua?
By Manuel Perez: I for one wasn’t the least impressed with the new World Boxing Council lightweight champion Edwin Valero’s (25-0, 25 KOs) recent 2nd round knockout over 39-year-old Antonio Pitalua (46-4, 40 KOs) last Saturday night at the Frank Erwin Center, in Austin, Texas. Valero looked slow, very hittable and not as hard hitting as his record suggests. He caught Pitalua with a right hook at the start of the 2nd round and put him down.

As of now, there’s still no opponent named for his fight but more details will follow. Valero, 27, knocked out Antonio Pitalua (46-4, 40 KOs) in the 2nd round on Saturday night in Austin, Texas.
