Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. defeats Dominik Britsch

By Dan Ambrose: Fighting at a catchweight of 169lb last Saturday night, former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs) picked up his 50th win of his career in defeating 29-year-old super middleweight Dominik Britisch (32-3-1, 11 KOs) in beating him by a one-sided 10 round unanimous decision in front of a very small crowd of boxing fans at the Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Dominik Britsch this Saturday

chavez8

By Dan Ambrose: Light heavyweight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (49-2-1, 32 KOs) will be resuming his stalled career this Saturday night against German fighter Dominik Britsch (32-2-1, 11 KOs) in a 10 round fight at a catchweight of 169lbs at the Monterrey Arena in Monterey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

Chavez Jr, 30, still sees himself as a super middleweight, but the fact of the matter is he hasn’t fought in that weight class since 2014. Chavez Jr;s last two fights have taken place in the 175lb division, and his fight on Saturday will be in that division rather than at super middleweight.

Chavez Jr. wants Canelo fight

canelo75

By Dan Ambrose: Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is targeting a fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in the near future. Chavez Jr. (49-2-1, 32 KOs) reportedly wants to fight Canelo at a catch-weight of 164 pounds.

The fight would likely need to take place in 2018 unless Canelo and his promoters at Golden Boy want to have it take place in September 2017. With Canelo saying he’s not a middleweight, it might look kind of odd if we see him all of a sudden fighting at 164 against Chavez Jr.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr

By Dan Ambrose: Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (49-2-1, 32 KOs) will be fighting next month against #11 WBO Dominik Britsch (32-2-1, 11 KOs) in a 10 round fight on December 10 at the Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico, according to Fight News.

Chavez Jr. hasn’t fought in a year and a half since his win over middleweight Marcos Reyes. He’s been out of the ring due to injuries. When Chavez Jr. does return, there are going to be a lot of questions asked of him whether he still has the talent to be a factor in boxing.

Gilberto Ramirez to miss five months with hand injury

ramirez83

By Allan Fox: WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs) suffered a hand injury this week on Tuesday during a sparring session. The injury is to the extent that Ramirez, 25, will need to pull out of his scheduled fight against challenger Dominik Britsch (32-2-1, 11 KOs) for the July 23 card that was scheduled for HBO PPV. Ramirez won’t be able to fight for five months, as his hand will need surgery.

The injury could delay Top Rank promoter Bob Arum’s plans of matching Ramirez against unbeaten middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. The 84-year-old Arum wanted to put Ramirez in with Golovkin in early 2017 after having him fight two more times in 2016. That’s not going to happen now due to Ramirez’s hand injury.

By Chris Williams: Top Rank promotions took a big hit on Wednesday with their unbeaten fighter Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs) suffering a hand injury while training. The injury was bad enough for the 25-year-old Ramirez to be pulled from the July 23 fight card, where he was supposed to be defending his WBO super middleweight title against #10 WBO Dominik Britsch (32-2-1, 11 KOs) on HBO pay-per-view from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Ramirez vs. Britsch fight was supposed to have been the chief support for the Terence Crawford vs. Viktor Postol fight.

Ramirez vs. Britsch: Gilberto expects a war

ramirez920

By Dan Ambrose: WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez wants to give the fans a great show in his first title defense against challenger Dominic Britsch on July 23. This is an important fight for Ramirez, because he needs a victory to get to potential bigger fights this year and in 2017 against possibly Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Gennady “GGG” Golovkin.

Ramirez, 25, doesn’t just want to win the fight. He wants to win and put on a great performance in giving the boxing world a war that will make them happy. For Ramirez to accomplish his goal of turning the fight into a brawl, he’ll need to fight the opposite of the way he fought his last fight against former WBO 168lb champion Arthur Abraham last April.

Gilberto Ramirez wants unification fight after Britsch match

ramirez78

By Dan Ambrose: WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs) is thinking past his scheduled defense against voluntary challenger Dominik Britsch (32-1-1, 11 KOs) next month on July 23 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ramirez, 24, is being lined up by his promoter Bob Arum for a big fight against middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in the near future, perhaps in early 2017 if not this year. Ramirez wants to fight a unification match against one of the other 168lb champions in James DeGale, Badou Jack, Felix Sturm or Giovanni De Carolis.

Whether any of those fights can happen is unclear. DeGale and Jack are facing each other in a unification match in the summer. That’ll combine the WBC and IBF titles.
