Chisora thinks he’ll fight Deontay for WBC title in near future

deontay7809By Scott Gilfoid: EBU heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora (19-3. 13 KO’s) is all over the map with his predictions for himself as far as big fights and him fighting for a world title. This week Chisora said that he wants to try and get IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko to travel to fight him in Africa so that they could have a ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ fight. We’re talking pure pipe dream here for Chisora. Getting Wladimir in Africa is dream stuff.

Chisora’s vision with that fight is that he’d become Wladimir’s mandatory challenger, and his promoter would win the purse bid and then elect to stage the fight in Africa rather than the UK.

Chisora still thinks he could get a fight against Wladimir this year. But now Chisora also sees a scenario where Chris Arreola will beat Bermane Stiverne in their fight for the vacant WBC heavyweight title. Arreola will then fight Deontay Wilder and get knocked out. Chisora in turn will fight Deontay and knock him out, and then bring the WBC title back to the UK.

Oquendo hoping to get Deontay Wilder fight on Mayweather undercard on May 3rd

deontay899By Scott Gilfoid: Deontay Wilder (30-0, 30 KO’s) is expected to fight next on May 3rd on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s next fight at the MGM Grand on Las Vega, Nevada. Golden Boy Promotions doesn’t have an opponent for the 6’7″ knockout artist, but 40-year-old Fres Oquendo (36-7, 23 KO’s) is hoping to get the fight, according to Fightnews.

Oquendo, #6 WBA, #12 WBC, would be a nice scalp for Deontay to add to his collection if he could get that fight, because Oquendo has been in with a lot of big named fighters during his long 17-year pro career.

Deontay to Fury: I dare you to send that contract

wilder6787By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten American heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (30-0, 30 KO’s) seems to have gotten a little tired of Tyson Fury mouthing off on twitter, so he decided to fire back a salvo to give him a taste of his own medicine while at the same time urging him to get off his backside and send a contract over for him to fight.

The talented 6’7″ Deontay wants to get Fury in the ring so that he can knock him out and finish him as a major player in the heavyweight division. Steve Cunningham came close to doing the job on Fury last April in their fight in New York, but Fury was able to get up after being knocked flat in the 2nd round. Cunningham was too tired from throwing that one shot to do much more in the fight, but he came real close to putting the Fury hype to rest.

Three Heavyweights With A Big 2014 Coming Up: The future looks bright for these three

chisora898By John Hoolan: So 2014 is upon us and it’s looking like a great year is instore for the heavyweight division.

Let’s recap on the five I wrote about last Jan…

The five I said would have big years in 2013 were Lucas Browne (now on the brink of the commonwealth title and a possible world title shot). Tyson Fury (one fight last year thanks to the celebrity that is Haye). David Price (who had a big 2013, sadly for him for all the wrong reasons). Robert Helenius (who like Fury only had the one fight last year, however his inactivity was due to injury) and Magomed Abdusalamov who is currently on a very long hard road to recovery after he went into a coma following his last fight in November – I wish him well.

Fury blaming Schaefer for Deontay fight not happening

schaefer2By Scott Gilfoid: Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) after going quiet and saying he’s retiring from boxing after Deontay Wilder’s promoters at Golden Boy Promotions attempted to line up a fight between Deontay and him, Fury is finally talking and blaming Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer for the fight not taking place. Fury claims that he’s not gotten anything in terms of a contract from Schaefer.

It’s pretty sad that Schaefer tried to setup a fight with Fury and Deontay, but he could never get a hold of Fury’s promoter on the phone, he said. Not sure what happened, but Schaefer says Fury’s promoter never picked up the phone nor did he call him back.

Fury wants Deontay, Roy Jones Jr. and Chisora next year

By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) will be back in training camp starting in February of 2014, and he’s targeting Deontay Wilder, Dereck Chisora, Big Daddy Lucas Browne and Roy Jones Jr. this next year. Obviously, Fury won’t be able to fight all of them, so my guess is the only dangerous of the bunch, Deontay Wilder, will be excluded while Fury goes after the soft targets. It’s kind of amusing that Fury is mentioning Roy Jones Jr’s name because Jones Jr. is about to turn 45 next month, and he hasn’t fought at heavyweight since 2003. So in other words, Fury is targeting an old guy who has fought only once in his entire career at heavyweight and that was against John Ruiz.

Chisora in the mix for an eliminator to get WBC title shot

chisora545By Scott Gilfoid: EBU heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora (19-4, 13 KO’s) could find himself in position to get a title shot in 2015 of 2016 if he chooses to take part in a WBC heavyweight eliminator bout to try and get a title shot at the winner of the February 15th fight between Bermane Stiverne and Chris Arreola. Those two are fighting for the vacant WBC heavyweight title.

The WBC plans on having two separate eliminator bouts to line up a couple of mandatory challengers. Chisora, #6 WBC, could find himself facing someone like #5 WBC Mike Perez, if Chisora agrees to take part in the eliminator. If not, then I guess he’ll be waiting a long, long time for a title shot against the WBC champion because I honestly don’t think the Arreola-Stiverne winner will just give Chisora a title shot without him having worked himself into a mandatory position.

Fury bellyaching about Deontay not deserving to fight Arreola-Stiverne winner

deontay50395By Scott Gilfoid: Britain’s Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) thinks he should be the one to fight the winner of the Chris Arreola vs. Bermane Stiverne fight rather than unbeaten American talent Deontay Wilder (30-0, 30 KO’s). The Arreola-Stiverne bout will be for the vacant WBC heavyweight title that used to belong to Vitali Klitschko until he vacated the strap earlier this week.

Unfortunately for Fury, the WBC has pushed him down in the rankings to #8 because he hasn’t stayed active and has been resting on his laurels since his close call win against Steve Cunningham last April. In the meantime, the WBC has pushed the 6’7″ Deontay to #3 in the WBC rankings.

2013 Boxing Awards

By Chester Rivers: 2013 has been one of the most exciting years for boxing in recent years. We saw the veterans regain past glory and some of the young guns get exposed. We had a super fight get out performed by a bout on the undercard and several fights that should have been walks in the park become fight of the year nominees.

Wladimir wants WBC strap vacated by Vitali

wlad99By Scott Gilfoid: Now that Vitali Klitschko has finally vacated his WBC title after having chosen to not defend it for eons, IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (61-3, 51 KO’s) is now targeting that belt to try and add that to his collection. Wladimir is hoping to get a chance to fight the eventual winner of the fight for the vacant WBC belt.

It’s still unknown which two lucky heavyweights will be fighting for Vitali’s WBC strap, but I have a strong feeling that we could be seeing Deontay Wilder facing Bermane Stiverne for that belt instead of Chris Arreola getting the shot against Stiverne. The 6’7″ Deontay would have an excellent chance at capturing the crown and that in turn would set up a fight between the 6’6″ Wladimir and Deontay for 2015.
