If Hughie Fury had fought Deontay Wilder last night…

hughie45By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten Hughie Fury (16-0, 8 KOs) could have been the one that fought WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) last night instead of Johann Duhaupas (32-3, 20 KOs) in Birmingham, Alabama.

Hughie was the first choice by Wilder’s management, but Hughie’s trainer/father Peter Fury said that they couldn’t take the fight because they wanted 8 weeks and they would have gotten less than that.

Duhaupas: The referee shouldn’t have stopped it

YouTube video

By Tim Fletcher: #11 WBC Johann Duhaupas (32-3, 20 KOs) is unhappy that the referee Jack Reiss stopped the fight in the 11th round last night in Duhaupas’ fight against WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

Duhaupas, 34, had taken too much punishment in the 11th round from Wilder for Reiss to let the fight continue, so he stopped the fight at 0:55 of the round rather than letting Duhaupas take further shots. Duhaupas wanted to finish the fight on his feet by going the full 12 rounds instead of being on the receiving end of a TKO defeat.

Deontay Wilder wants Klitschko in 2016

Image: Deontay Wilder wants Klitschko in 2016By Tim Fletcher: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 24 KOs) believes he’ll be ready to face IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) in late 2016 if he’s still a world champion by then.

Wilder wants to get his mandatory defense out of the way against mandatory Alexander Povetkin, provided that Povetkin wins his next fight against the 6’8” Mariusz Wach on November 4th in Russia.

Wilder beats Duhaupas, wants Klitschko

Image: Wilder beats Duhaupas, wants Klitschko(Photo credit: Lucas Noonan/Premier Boxing Champions) By Scott Gilfoid: As I predicted, the talented WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0 34 KOs) put in a virtuoso performance in battering Johann Duhaupas (32-3, 20 KOs) and winning an 11th round TKO win on Saturday night in front of a jammed pack Legacy Arena in beautiful Birmingham, Alabama. It was a privilege to watch the superstar Wilder work tonight in slowly dismantling the iron-chinned Duhaupas round by round until the referee Jack Reiss had to pull the plug on the fight in the 11th round.

Duhaupas looked like he was ready to be officially knocked out when Reiss decided to stop the contest rather than letting Wilder put Duhaupas down on the canvas. It was just too much of a beating for Reiss to stand there and let it continue to happen before his eyes.

Deontay Wilder stops Johann Duhaupas

Image: Deontay Wilder stops Johann Duhaupas(Photo credit: Lucas Noonan/Premier Boxing Champions) By Jim Dower: In perhaps the hardest fight of WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder’s career, he had to battle hard to defeat Johann Duhaupas (32-3, 20 KOs) by a grueling 11th round stoppage victory tonight at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. The 6’7″ Wilder unloaded everything but the kitchen sink in the 11th round to get the stoppage against bleeding but still game Duhaupas.

The fight was stopped after Wilder unloaded with a blizzard of left hooks and uppercuts to the head of Duhaupas. Referee Jack Reiss stepped in before Wilder could add the coupe de grace against the French fighter.

Deontay Wilder smashes Johann Duhaupas – results

wilder444(Photo credit: Lucas Noonan/Premier Boxing Champions) By Tim Fletcher: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) gave #11 WBC Johann Duhaupas (32-3, 20 KOs) a terrible beating in stopping him in the 11th round on Saturday night in a fight that was televised by Premier Boxing Champions on NBC at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

Wilder hurt the 32-year-old Duhaupas with some uppercuts in the 11th round. Wilder the unloaded a storm of unanswered uppercuts to the head of Duhaupas until the referee Jack Reiss stepped in and halted the fight at 0:55 of the round. Duhaupas was still on his feet but he was cowering and just taking awful punishment. It’s possible that Duhaupas might have survived the onslaught, but he wasn’t going to win. Duhaupas was able to survive a similar flurry of punches from Wilder in the 10th and 5th rounds.

Deontay Wilder not worried about Johann Duhaupas

Image: Deontay Wilder not worried about Johann DuhaupasBy Scott Gilfoid: Unlike a lot of fighters, WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (34-0, 33 KOs) says he doesn’t bother watching video of his fighter’s previous bouts. He feels that it’s better for him to figure out his opponents inside the ring.

The 6’7” Wilder has stuck to this tradition for his next fight against #11 WBC Johann Duhaupas (32-2, 20 KOs), who he’ll be facing this Saturday night on Premier Boxing Champions in a primetime fight on NBC at the Legacy Arena, in Birmingham, Alabama.
