Deontay Wilder to face Alexander Povetkin in April or May 2016

1-DEONTAY WILDER VICTORY-06132015-5328By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBC mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin (30-1, 22 KOs) is going to need to put a sock in it for a while and wait his turn for an eventual title shot against the talented and athletic WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs).

Earlier on Wednesday, the World Boxing Council approved Wilder for a voluntary defense of his WBC title for January 16th 2016. Wilder doesn’t have an opponent yet, but it’ll be one of the WBC’s top 15 contenders. #7 WBC Artur Szpilka and #12 WBC Chris Arreola are two of the names that have been mentioned as possibilities for Wilder.

Povetkin plans on beating Wach, Wilder, and then fighting Klitschko again

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBA heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin (29-1, 21 KOs) says his plans are for him to defeat the 6’7 ½” Mariusz Wach (31-1, 17 KOs) in their scheduled 12 round fight this Wednesday on November 4th, and then move forward to defeat the equally big 6’7” WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) next year in the first quarter of 2016, and then top it off by beating the 6’6” IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) in a rematch.

Hughie Fury: Deontay Wilder won’t be heavyweight champion by next year

fury433By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (16-0, 8 KOs) says he doesn’t think that WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) will be a champion by next year in 2016, because he thinks that his cousin #1 WBO Tyson Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) will have beaten him and IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko to unify all the titles in the division. Hughie, 6’6”, is predicting that Tyson will score a knockout over Wladfimir in their fight next month on November 28th.

It’s interesting that Hughie feels that Wilder won’t last long as the WBC heavyweight champion because he had a chance to fight him recently but he opted not to take the fight. Hughie says that he was only given three weeks’ notice to take the fight for September 26th, but from I remember that when Hughie’s trainer Peter Fury mentioned that he had just received an offer for the fight against Wilder there was still 7 ½ weeks to go before September 26th, so I’m not sure where Hughie gets this 3 weeks stuff. As far as I can tell, it was 7 ½ weeks to go before the fight.

Tony Thompson: I’m going to KO Deontay Wilder and then fight Klitschko

thompson323By Scott Gilfoid: #9 WBC Tony Thompson (40-5, 27 KOs) says he’s planning on beating WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) for his WBC title, and then using his WBC belt to get a third fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs), who has already knocked him out twice in stopping him in 2008 and 2012.

Thompson, 44, isn’t satisfied with the outcome of those two fights, and he wants another crack at Klitschko to improve upon the performances he had the two previous times. There’s a chance that the 6’5” Thompson could be an opponent for Wilder in his next proposed fight in January 2016 or sooner.

An honest assessment of Deontay Wilder

1-Screen Shot 2015-09-26 at 10.53.09 PMBy Scott Bells: 35 wins, 34 of which have been by knockout, and 0 losses. An impressive resume for any world heavyweight champion you would have to say.

You cannot fail to be impressed with what Deontay Wilder has done so far in his professional career, but we must look deeper to truly understand whether this man is indeed the real deal, or another fighter who has been spoon-fed opponents and hyped heavily to maximise the return on investment for his promoters.

De La Hoya: If Deontay gets hit by Luis Ortiz, he’s not getting up

1-OrtizVidondo_Hoganphotos2By Scott Gilfoid: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya thinks that his fighter WBA interim heavyweight champion Luis Ortiz (23-0, 20 KOs) would flatten the talented WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) with a shot and that he wouldn’t be able to get up from the punch when/if the two large heavyweights fight in the future. And get this get; De La Hoya believes that Wilder would never even agree to fight the Cuban Ortiz in the future, as he’s someone that Wilder would choose to steer his career around.

Right now, the 6’4” Ortiz, who De La Hoya says is 33 rather than his listed age of 36, is traveling in a different path with Wilder. Ortiz is the interim WBA champion and is looking to get a title shot against either Wladimir Klitschko or Ruslan Chagaev.

Wilder and Ortiz can only fight now if Ortiz is able to beat Chagaev or Wladimir to pick up one or more of the world titles. Until then, there’s no point in Wilder facing the aging Ortiz, who looks to me to be a lot older than his listed age of 36.

Deontay Wilder wants Anthony Joshua fight

joshua6By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten WBC heavyweight talent Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) says he’s really looking to a clash against undefeated #2 WBC Anthony Joshua (14-0, 14 KOs) when/if the British heavyweight has worked himself into the No.1 mandatory spot in the future.

Wilder sees the 6’6” Joshua as being a good opponent for him, and he’s really looking forward to that fight if it ever happens. Wilder likes the idea that the boxing public is fully behind Joshua in the UK, because he wants an opponent that can generate a lot of excitement by having a large fan base.

Deontay Wilder has right personality to replace Mayweather, says Rosado

1-Screen Shot 2015-09-26 at 10.51.17 PMBy Scott Gilfoid: Now that Floyd Mayweather Jr. has retired from boxing there is a hole that needs to be filled by another fighter to step into his shoes to become the next star that can carry boxing for the next 5-10 years. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has already been exposed several times, and he’s clearly not the guy that can fully step into Mayweather’s shoes.

One fighter who could take the baton from Mayweather is WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronse Bomber” Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs). He’s got the personality, punching power, the knockouts, the crowd pleasing personality and the overall talent.

Wilder: Fury has a chance, but fans interested in Klitschko-Wilder

wilderBy Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) feels that unbeaten light hitting Tyson Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) does have a chance at unseating IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) in their fight next month on November 28th at the ESPRIT Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany.

But even though Fury has a chance in this fight, Wilder notes that the boxing fans are mainly interested in a Wilder vs. Klitschko fight. That’s the one they want to see. In other words, that fight drowns out Klitschko-Fury or Fury vs. Wilder.

Deontay Wilder evaluating potential opponents for January

Image: Deontay Wilder evaluating potential opponents for January(Photo credit: Lucas Noonan/Premier Boxing Champions) By Scott Gilfoid: American heavyweight Bryant Jennings isn’t necessarily out of the running for WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder’s next fight in January, according to the talented 6’7” Deontay. He says he wouldn’t mind fighting Jennings so that he could get him out of the way. Wilder says there are a lot of different guys that he could fight in January.

They’re going to choose someone good obviously so that he can get some rounds in while at the same time getting ready for his important title defense against his #1 WBC challenger Alexander Povetkin in early next year.
