By Patrick McHugh: Undefeated heavyweight contender Jarrell Miller (18-0-1, 16 KOs) did what he said he was going to do last night in stopping the capable Fred Kassi (18-6-1, 10 KOs) in the 3rd round on Showtime Boxing from the Rhinos Stadium in Rochester, NY. Miller, also known as “Big Bady”, trashed the top heavyweight champions Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury, letting Showtime audience know what he personally thinks of these three champions.

The 28-year-old Miller is just itching for the chance to challenge one of them, because he feels he’s got the talent to unseat them. It’s going to be exciting to see if Miller can do that because at this rate, he should be in range for a world title shot by 2017, possibly 2018 if the sanctioning bodies move him up slowly.

Image: WBC orders Povetkin - Stiverne

By Patrick McHugh: With WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder nursing a surgically repaired right hand and torn biceps, the World Boxing Council has ordered #1 WBC contender Alexander Povetkin (30-1, 22 KOS) to face #2 WBC Bermane Stiverne (25-2-1, 21 KOs) for the WBC interim heavyweight title.

The winner of the Povetkin vs. Stiverne fight will then face the 30-year-old Wilder in 2017 for his WBC title. The negotiation for the Povetkin-Stiverne fight begins today. If the two fighters are unable to come to an agreement by September 16 of next month, then a purse bid will be conducted on that date. Drug testing will be done by VADA for the Povetkin vs. Stiverne fight.

Povetkin still Wilder’s WBC mandatory in August ratings

povetkin4543

By Eric Baldwin: Alexander Povetkin continues to be the #1 mandatory challenger to WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder in the World Boxing Council’s new ratings for August. This means that the WBC still hasn’t made up their mind what they’re going to do with the 36-year-old Povetkin after his positive drug test for a banned substance.

Wilder, 30, appears to be getting tired of the WBC taking their time, and he’s talking now of wanting to get it over with and facing Povetkin because he feels confident that he can beat him.

The WBC is still investigating Povetkin’s case. Just when they’ll make their ultimate decision is anyone’s guess.

Deontay: Povetkin will get a beat down

deontay7777

By Scott Gilfoid: Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder says he’s still interested in fighting #1 World Boxing Council contender Alexander Povetkin (30-1, 22 KOs) despite him having tested positive for a banned substance in the past. The unbeaten WBC heavyweight champion Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) says he’ll give the 36-year-old Povetkin a beating once they face each other.

As of now, the WBC is still yet to determine what they’re going to be doing with Povetkin. Wilder wants the WBC to hurry up and make a decision, but they’re taking their time. Wilder is talking like he’ll go ahead and fight Povetkin just to get it over with. However, right now, Wilder is coming off of surgery for a broken right hand and torn right biceps muscle.

Deontay Wilder’s second surgery a success

Image: Deontay Wilder’s second surgery a success

By Eric Baldwin: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder’s second surgery on his hand is reportedly a success. In addition to his right hand surgery, Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) had surgery to repair his torn right bicep muscle that he injured in his last fight against fringe level contender Chris Arreola this month on July 16 at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. At this point, it’s still too early to know whether the 6’7” Wilder will need a follow up surgery on his hand and bicep to fix the problems.

“Surgery number two is done. Thanks so much to everyone for all the prayers,” said Wilder after his surgery. “Thank you to all the great nurses and staff who took care of me.”

Anthony Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder possible for fall 2017

Image: Anthony Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder possible for fall 2017

By Allan Fox: Showtime boxing boss Stephen Espinoza is planning on a possible heavyweight unification fight in the fall of 2017 between unbeaten IBF champion Anthony Joshua (17-0, 17 KOs) and WBC champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs), according to RingTV.

Espinoza would have the fight take place in early 2017, but Wilder suffered a broken right hand and torn right biceps injury in his last title defense against Chris Arreola this month on July 16. The injuries will likely keep Wilder derailed until early 2017. It wouldn’t be a good time for the Wilder vs. Joshua fight with Wilder coming off of those injuries.

Wilder, Arreola pass drug tests

1

Eric Baldwin: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) and Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola (36-6-1, 31 KOs) passed their drug tests from their July 16 fight at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. Both fighters’ urine tests came up negative in VADA’s pre and post-fight tests for drugs, according to Dan Rafael.

Wilder, 6’7”, scored an 8th round stoppage after Arreola failed to come out for the 9th round. Arreola’s left eye was nearly closed and he’d suffered a cut over his right eye. His left was the bigger problem because he couldn’t see out of it to track Wilder’s powerful jab.

Haye: Joshua should fight Deontay now

Image: Haye: Joshua should fight Deontay now

By Scott Gilfoid: Britain’s David Haye thinks this would be the perfect time for IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (17-0, 17 KOs) to face unbeaten WBC heavyweight champ Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) with him coming off a bad biceps and hand injury to his right hand. The 6’7” Wilder broke his right hand and suffered a torn bicep in his 8th round knockout victory over Chris Arreola (36-5-1, 31 KOs) last Saturday night at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

The injuries will both require surgery to repair, and it’s quite possible that Wilder won’t be back inside the ring until the first quarter of 2017. Coming back from surgery on a torn biceps can take as long as six months. For an athlete that needs strong biceps, it’s going to be especially important for Wilder to be 100 percent when he does return to the ring in the future.

Arreola not retiring, wants Eric Molina

Image: Arreola not retiring, wants Eric Molina

By Dan Ambrose: Chris Arreola (36-5-1, 31 KOs) met with defeat last Saturday night in getting stopped by WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) in a failed world title shot on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox. Arreola was halted in the 8th round after his corner had the fight stopped after the round had ended. It was the type of performance where you can argue that the 35-year-old Arreola should retire rather than continue his career.

However, Arreola says he won’t be retiring. He wants a rematch with #12 WBC Eric Molina (25-3, 19 KOs), who he stopped in the 1st round four years ago in 2012. Arreola says that Molina has been talking trash about him, and gave him some grief about his loss to Wilder by calling him a quitter.
