Huck training for April bout – but not against Lebedev

By Jim Dower: WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (31-1, 23 KO’s) is currently training for an April fight in Germany. However, if you were hoping that it would be a rematch with top contender Denis Lebedev, I have bad news for you. Huck, 26, won’t be fighting Lebedev next and likely won’t be fighting him any time soon. Huck has moved on from his controversial 12 round split decision win over Lebedev from last December, and will be looking to fight other contenders rather than revisiting a rematch with Lebedev.

Huck complains of cracked rib that he suffered in 4th round against Lebedev

Image: Huck complains of cracked rib that he suffered in 4th round against LebedevBy Jim Dower: WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (31-1, 23 KO’s) was quick to make excuses for his poor performance against previously unbeaten challenger Denis Lebedev (21-1, 16 KO’s) last Saturday night at the Max Schmeling Halle, Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin, Germany. Huck won the fight by a controversial 12 round split decision, but from many people’s perspective, Huck appeared to get easily beaten. I had Lebedev winning 9 rounds to 3.

Huck decisions Lebedev, but looks more like a loser

Image: Huck decisions Lebedev, but looks more like a loserBy Jason Kim: Now that I’ve gotten a chance to see the WBO cruiserweight clash between champion Marco Huck (31-1, 23 KO’s) and previously unbeaten Russian challenger Denis Lebedev (21-1, 16 KO’s) I finally know what all the fuss is about the bout. Huck, while fighting in his adopted country of Germany, defeated Lebedev by a 12 round split decision while fighting in front of a large pro-Huck crowd at the Max Schmeling Halle, Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin, Germany. The two European judges scored the fight identically with 115-113 and 115-113, whereas the American judge scored it 116-112 for Lebedev. I personally had the fight scored 117-111 for Lebedev.

Lebedev will destroy Huck

Image: Lebedev will destroy HuckBy Jason Kim: The cruiserweight clash between WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (30-1, 23 KO’s) and Russian challenger Denis Lebedev (21-0, 16 KO’s) is just moments away at the Max Schmeling Halle, in Berlin, Germany. Lebedev, 31, is a slight underdog for this fight. However, Lebedev is going to shock some fans in Germany with a crushing knockout of Huck. This is by far the toughest opponent that Huck has faced since he was taken out by Steve Cunningham in 2007 and Lebedev is an even better puncher than Cunningham.

Marco Huck vs. Denis Lebedev on December 18th

By Jim Dower: In what could be the best match-up in boxing in 2010, WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (30-1, 23 KO’s) defends his title against #1 ranked World Boxing Organization contender southpaw Denis Lebedev (21-0, 16 KO’s) on December 18th at the Max Schmeling Halle, Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin, Germany. This is going to be a great fight and it’s odd that it’s not being talked about much among fans, because it promises to have fireworks from start to finish. Both Huck and Lebedev are huge punchers that never take a backwards step.

Why didn’t Danny Green go after Huck, Lebedev or Cunningham instead of Flores?

By Jim Slattengren: While I think Danny Green (30-3, 27 KO’s) is an excellent fighter, I’m not pleased to learn that he’s taking on BJ Flores (24-0-1, 15 KO’s) in his next fight on November 17th, in Sydney, Australia. That’s a step up for Green, no doubt. But that’s not a big enough step for me, especially after watching Green’s last fight against Paul Briggs.

Lebedev stops Alexeev in two rounds

By Erik Schmidt: In a fight that was supposed to be competitive, #1 ranked WBO cruiserweight contender Denis Lededev (21-0, 16 KO’s) was much too powerful for #2 WBO ranked contender Alexander Alexeev (19-2, 17 KO’s), slicing through him like butter with power shots on Saturday night en route to stopping the former Olympian Alexeev in the 2nd round of a WBO cruiserweight title eliminator match at the the Sport- Und Kongresshall in Schwerin, Germany.
