By Eric Baldwin: #1 WBA Demetrius Andrade (23-0, 16 KOs) will be facing undefeated WBA junior middleweight champion Jack Culcay (22-1, 11 KOs) on November 5 at the MBS Arena in Potsdam, Germany.

Andrade, 28, is going to be going into foreign territory to fight the German based 31-year-old Culcay, and he may need a knockout in order to leave the Arena with Culcay’s title in his possession. It’s still unclear which television network will show the Andrade vs. Culcay fight if any.

Demetrius Andrade: The best at junior middleweight?

andrade1

Twenty-eight year old professional boxer, Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (Providence, Rhode Island/pro record: 23-0, 16 KOs), is a former WBO Light Middleweight Champion and a 2008 Olympian. He last fought on June 11, 2016, in a Showtime televised appearance against tough title contender, Willie Nelson. In that fight, Andrade dominated Nelson with varied punch combinations, dropped him four times, and won by technical knockout at 1:38 of Round 12. After dominating Nelson, the question must be asked: Is Andrade now the most feared boxer in the super welterweight division?

Demetrius Andrade to Canelo: “You’re scared”

andrade2222

By Patrick McHugh: Former 154lb champion Demetrius Andrade is calling out Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to fight him now that he’s the WBO junior middleweight champion after his 9th round knockout win over Liam “Beefy” Smith on September 17. The unbeaten Andrade (23-0, 16 KOs) is the number one challenger for the WBO 154lb belt that Canelo now holds, and he wants to fight him to prove that he’s the better fighter of the two.

Canelo is now talking about moving up in weight to challenge the best fighters in the 160lb division despite the fact that you can argue that he failed to fight the best guys at 154 like Andrade, Julian Williams and the Charlo brothers.

Is Canelo vacating WBO title to avoid Demetrius Andrade?

andrade1

By Patrick McHugh: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez just captured the WBO junior middleweight title last Saturday night in defeating the obscure WBO 154lb belt holder Liam “Beefy” Smith in a fight that believe it or not was televised on HBO pay-per-view. It was an awful fight that few boxing fans wanted to see, and fewer likely wanted to pay for. But now that Canelo has the WBO 154lb title in his possession, he’s in the cross-hairs of the talented 2008 U.S Olympian and former WBO 154lb champion Demetrius (23-0, 16 KOs), who would like nothing better than to get the Golden Boy promoted Canelo inside the ring to pluck him clean in a Mayweather-esque fashion.

What was surprising – or not so surprising – was how Canelo immediately was talking about his fight last Saturday being his last one at 154. In other words, Canelo will be moving up in weight to start campaigning as a middleweight.

Andrade discusses Canelo’s status as cash-cow of boxing

canelo5666

By Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten #1 WBC 154lb contender Demetrius Andrade (23-0, 16 KOs) says he would like to fight boxing’s cash cow Saul “Canelo” Alvarez next if he could get that fight. That’s not likely to happen though, because Andrade doesn’t fit category of the opposition that Canelo’s promoters at Golden Boy Promotions are matching him against nowadays.

They’re putting him in with smaller guys than himself, and/or fighters with decent talent but not super high quality opposition. Andrade understands why Canelo is being matched so carefully by Golden Boy’s head honcho Oscar De La Hoya. Andrade sees it as a business move by De La Hoya and Golden Boy in putting Canelo in with guys that he can surely beat so that the money can keep rolling in.

Andrade is now the second mandatory challenger to WBC junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo.

However, Andrade’s title shot against the 26-year-old Charlo will not be coming soon, because he has another mandatory to get out of the way first against #2 WBC Charles Hatley (26-1-1, 18 KOs) first before he can get to Andrade, according to Dan Rafael.
