Cotto-Geale averages 1.589M viewers on HBO

1-cotto (14)By Dan Ambrose: Last Saturday’s non-pay-per-view bout on HBO Championship Boxing between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) and former IBF/WBA 160lb champion Daniel Geale (31-4, 16 KOs) brought in good numbers for HBO in the ratings department. The fight brought in a peak of 1,621 million viewers on HBO, making it the third highest ratings numbers for 2015, according to Dan Rafael.

The Cotto-Geale averaged 1.589 million viewers, which isn’t bad considering that the fight was a mismatch on paper with Cotto picking a guy that was blown out in three rounds last year by WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in a fight that was televised on HBO.

Cotto says he’ll fight Canelo at 155

1-cotto (6)By Dan Ambrose: If you thought the 157 pound catch-weight was bad for WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto’s last fight against a weight drained Daniel Geale (31-4, 16 KOs) last Saturday night, you might find it interesting that Cotto (40-4, 32 KOs) is saying that he’ll defend his WBC middleweight title against challenger Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-1-1, 32 KOs) at the bare minimum weight of 155 pounds for the middleweight division when the two of them face each other in the fall, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.

That might not be a big deal for some fans because they realize that Canelo has fought his last three fights at a middleweight catch-weight of 155 pounds. However, those were non-title fights against junior middleweights that Canelo dragged up to the middleweight division for him to fight.

Image: Roach: Cotto can beat Mayweather nowBy Dan Ambrose: Trainer Freddie Roach is convinced that his fighter WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) has now improved enough under his tutelage to avenge his loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) from three years ago in 2012 and give the 38-year-old Mayweather his first loss of his career.

Cotto came close to beating Mayweather in that fight, which took place at 154. But now that Cotto is fighting at middleweight, and throwing many more left hooks than he did back then, Roach thinks that Cotto is ready to defeat Mayweather.

Cotto gets beaten when he steps up against A-class opponents, says Sanchez

1-cotto (1)By Dan Ambrose: WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) has convinced a lot of fans and members of the boxing media that he’s turned his career around with his last three wins over Daniel Geale, Sergio Martinez and Delvin Rodriguez in the past two years.
