Chris Eubank Jr: The Time for Talk Is Over

Image: Chris Eubank Jr: The Time for Talk Is Over

By Ben Sutherland – The Eubanks have always been a unique, quirky and controversial duo. Eubank Sr in particular, who is never afraid to make his feelings known, has always been very strongly opinionated. This propensity to talk hasn’t been backed up.

They called out Golovkin. There was some interest from Golovkin and his team who until recently had been very much avoided. However, after contracts were drawn up, Eubank lost his pen. The Eubanks, despite blatantly being the B side in negotiations claimed “they weren’t yes men” and wanted a fair shake. Clearly if they had genuinely wanted to fight Golovkin “the funny business” in the contracts wouldn’t have been a problem for Eubank Jr who would’ve seen his largest pay day ever and by far and away his highest profile fight. They decided to forgo this opportunity and instead decided to defend the British title against the much lesser known Tom Doran.

By Scott Gilfoid: Earlier today, the news of the July 15 fight between IBO super middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr. and Arthur Abraham was officially announced. Eubank Jr. will be defending his International Boxing Federation 168-pound title against former 2 division world champion Abraham at the Wembley Arena in London, England. This is a fight that Abraham can win if he throws enough punches. Abraham is the harder puncher and then more experienced fighter of the two. However, Eubank Jr. has the higher volume fighting style, which will make it tough for Abraham unless he can knock him out.

By Matthias Predonzan: FIRST ANTECEDENT: on March 26th 2016, after 12 rounds of emotionally intense and physically harsh fighting, Nick Backwell lost his British middle-weight title to Chris Eubank Jr. The fight was intense but not very competitive, because Nick Blackwell was overwhelmed by his contender’s superior boxing skill.

Unfortunately Nick collapsed just after the final bell and was rushed into the hospital where a bleed in the skull was diagnosed.

By Nedu Obi: On Saturday night at the Olympia, London, England, Chris Eubank Jr. wrested the IBO super middleweight strap from the game Aussie Renold Quinlan in stopping him in the 10th round – and in doing so, etched his name alongside such boxing greats as Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Following an eight month stint of pugilistic inactivity, Chris Eubank won his first world title by forcing the referee to call a halt to proceedings in the tenth round of his first world championship bout, after a barrage of punches went unanswered from Quinlan.

By Scott Gilfoid: Chris Eubank Sr. says that negotiations with IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and his promoter Tom Loeffler will be starting in 1 ½ weeks for a fight between him and Chris Eubank Jr. Eubank Sr. seems to feel pretty confident that he’ll be able to line up either Golovkin or IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale as an opponent for Eubank Jr. after his recent 10th round knockout win over IBO 168lb champion Renold Quinlan last Saturday night at the Olympia in London, England.

Eubank Jr. was able to use his high volume punch attack to force a stoppage in the 10th when referee Howard John Foster stopped the fight. Eubank Jr. didn’t show much in the way of punching power.

Eubank Jr. wants DeGale or Golovkin next

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: Newly crowned IBO super middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr. (24-1, 189 KOs) did his part in stopping little known IBO 168lb champion Renold Quinlan (11-2, 7 KOs) by a 10th round knockout on Saturday night, and now he wants to fight IBF 168lb champion James DeGale (23-1-1, 14 KOs).

Eubank Jr. will be fighting next in April, which is a very quick turnaround. It’s doubtful that DeGale is going to want to get back inside the ring in two months from now to fight Eubank Jr.

Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Renold Quinlan – Results

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: Chris Eubank Jr. (24-1, 19 KOs) had an easy time tonight in defeating IBO super middleweight champion Renold Quinlan (11-2, 7 KOs) by a 10th round knockout to capture his IBO 168lb title on Saturday night at the Olympia in London, England.

The referee Howard John Foster halted the fight at 2:07 of round 10 after Quinlan took a flurry of head shots while trapped against the ropes. I didn’t see much in the way of boxing skills from Quinlan or Eubank Jr. tonight.
