1-Sammy Vasquez_Workout4

By Patrick McHugh: Unbeaten welterweight contender Sammy Vasquez (21-0, 15 KOs) will get a chance to show what kind of boxing skills has going for him this month when he faces 2008 Olympic gold medalist Felix Diaz (17-1, 8 KOs) in the co-feature bout on the Deontay Wilder vs. Chris Arreola card on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox on July 16 at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

Vasquez, #7 WBA, #8 WBC, #10 WBO, #11 IBF, will be taking a little bit of a step up in taking on the 32-year-old Diaz, who has only been beaten once in his career by former IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson by a 12 round majority decision last October.

Arreola: Golovkin’s a beast; no one is above him

Image: Arreola: Golovkin's a beast; no one is above him

By Patrick McHugh: Heavyweight contender Chris Arreola is one of IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s many fans, as he’s looking forward to his potential upcoming fight against Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs) in September if the fight gets made. Arreola sees the fight as a stylistic match-up involving Golovkin’s “Mexican style” of fighting going up against Eubank Jr’s “boxer” style.

Arreola isn’t saying which of the two will win the fight, but it would seem that he believes Golovkin will do the job. Arreola sees GGG as the top pound-for-pound fighter in the sport right now. Eubank Jr. isn’t seen as the top guy by boxing fans. He’s more of an unfinished product with a lot of potential and a great of unknowns with his game.

Chris Arreola: “I want that [WBC] title!”

wilder3

By Dan Ambrose: Former two-time world title challenger Chris Arreola (36-4-1, 31 KOs) wants WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder’s title more than anything as they head towards their fight in 10 days from now on July 16 at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

If Arreola can win the WBC off Wilder, he can set himself up for a big money fight against either IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua of IBO/WBA/WBO champion Tyson Fury. It would be life changing money that Arreola would make from either of those guys.

By Scott Gilfoid: Boxing fans only have 10 more days to wait until the mouth-watering match-up between two of the most powerful punchers in the heavyweight division between Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (36-0, 35 KOs) and #9 WBC Chris Arreola (36-4-1, 31 KOs) on July 16 at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Wilder-Arreola fight is one that is sure to have fireworks going off from the crack of the bell in the 1st round. This is Wilder’s fourth defense of his WBC heavyweight title that he picked up last year, and it’s sure to be his best fight of his early heavyweight reign.

joshua854

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (17-0, 17 KOs) still doesn’t know who his next opponent will be in November or December, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to be his IBF mandatory challenger Joseph Parker. In the meantime, Joshua gave his two cents on the heavyweight clashes matching WBC champion Deontay Wilder vs. challenger Chris Arreola on July 16, and the rematch between IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

Joshua picks Wilder to beat the 35-year-old Arreola, and Fury to defeat the 40-year-old Wlladimir a second time. Joshua believes that Arreola will be a good test for Wilder to see where he’s at.

Wilder vs. Arreola to be tested by VADA

wilder9

By Allan Fox: For WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder’s next defense against 35-year-old Chris Arreola, the two fighters will be tested by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency [VADA] to be tested for banned drugs all the way up until their fight on July 16 at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

With the Wilder-Arreola fight being a little more than two and a half weeks to go, there isn’t much time for VADA to test the two fighters before they meet up next month. The Wilder-Arreola fight will be televised on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox and Fox Deportes. It should be an interesting fight for as long as it lasts.

Can Arreola beat Deontay Wilder?

1-Wilder vs Arreola LA Press Conference - June 21_ 2016_Presser_Ryan Hafey _ Premier Boxing Champions5

By Allan Fox: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (36-0, 35 KOs) is going into his title defense next month against #9 WBC Chris Arreola (36-4-1, 31 KOs) as a heavy favorite when the two of them battle it out on July 16 at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. Arreola has a punchers chance of winning the fight if he can land something big. Wilder’s chin is a serious question mark.

It’s quite possible that Wilder won’t be able to handle Arreola’s punching power in this fight. The only question is will Arreola be able to stick around long enough for him to land his bombs?

Joshua says Wilder should focus on Arreola

joshua864

By Patrick McHugh: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (36-0, 35 KOs) was quick to call out IBF champion Anthony Joshua (17-0, 17 KOs) last Saturday night moments after he’d registered his 17th consecutive knockout in stopping American challenger Dominic Breazeale (17-1, 15 KOs) in the 7th round at the O2 Arena in London, England. Wilder says he wants Joshua to come to the U.S to fight him, and he doesn’t want to wait any longer for that fight to happen. Wilder wants the fight now. Joshua’s response to that was to suggest that Wilder needs to focus on his next title defense against Chris Arreola on July 16.

“Since the winter time you planned on Tyson Fury. Hey, it’s time to make your American debut Anthony Joshua. Eddie Hearn said sooner than later so let’s make sooner “NOW”!!!!!” said Wilder on his Twitter.

Arreola: Deontay Wilder is no Vitali Klitschko

1-Wilder vs Arreola LA Press Conference - June 21_ 2016_Presser_Ryan Hafey _ Premier Boxing Champions5

By Dan Ambrose: Former two-time world title challenger Chris Arreola (36-4-1, 31 KOs) will be getting his third title shot next month when he fights WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (36-0, 35 KOs) in his own hometown at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. Arreola sees the 6’7” Wilder as a good fighter, but not someone in the same class as former WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko.

Arreola was stopped in the 10th round by Vitali seven years ago in 2009 in a one-sided fight. Arreola says Vitali was the smartest fighter he’s ever faced before in his career. Arreola plans on pressuring Wilder and getting inside his punching range so that he can’t get maximum power on his shots like he’s accustomed to.
