Brandon Rios to resume his career

rios100By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA 140lb champion Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios (33-3-1, 24 KOs) says he plans on getting back into the ring to resume his pro boxing career after having thought about what went wrong in his last fight against WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley.

An out of shape Rios was knocked down twice with body shots and stopped in the 9th round by Bradley, who isn’t considered a big puncher by any means. Rios came into the fight an out of shape 170lbs after making the 147lb limit the day before.

Brandon Rios vs. Victor Ortiz: Will we ever see this matchup?

rios0848566By Nate Estrada: The possibilities of potential match-ups are always intriguing. Whether it’s good friends or rivals that put up a good match, fans would be more drawn to a rivalry fight. That way they can expect guaranteed fireworks. Consider Oscar De La Hoya (39-6, 30 KO’s) vs. Fernando Vargas (26-5, 22 KO’s) on September 14, 2002.

A long-going personal feud between these two lead up to an amazing fight, known as “Bad Blood”. De La Hoya eventually won by TKO in the 11th round. Drawn to the rivalry, the fight delivered for boxing fans and this type of fight is something we must have again for the sake of boxing history.

How much can Teddy Atlas increase Bradley´s Desert Storm?

bradley2222222By Gerardo Granados: Last Saturday night at the Thomas and Mack Center, Las Vegas, USA, the WBO welterweight belt holder Tim Bradley outclassed and defeated Brandon Rios by TKO9. Although I called the fight right for Bradley, I bet on him to stop Rios on the 11 round so I ended up losing a few notes but still feel fortunate to have seen Tim performance, I know he defeated a brave fighter and not a slick welterweight boxer puncher but still this was a different Bradley for me.

The fight that convinced me Tim had a storm inside of him was his epic battle versus Ruslan Provodnikov, before that bout he showed determination and huger but the Siberian Rocky was his baptize of fire.

Bradley-Rios: Should Rios retire?

rios100By J Caldwell: Whenever “elite” fighters take a beating the way Rios did last night in Las Vegas, the big “R-Word” starts to linger. I think it’s time to hang it up. I’m done,” Rios said following a long night of questioning from reporters. As a thoroughly beaten fighter, it’s only natural. Nevertheless, after watching the lackluster fight between Brandon Rios (33-3-1, 24 KOs) and Timothy Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) unfold, you get the general impression that there was something fishy going on. Brandon Rios, along with his trainer Robert Garcia, arguably one of the top conditioners in the business, came into the Thomas and Mack center on the night of November 7th with the smell of fish on their hands.

Put simply, Rios looked terrible! Weighing in the night of the fight at a whopping 170lbs, Rios looked the part of sushi-eating Japanese sumo wrestler. Whatever happen to the “Bam Bam” Rios we diehards came to know and love; the same “Bam Bam” Rios that pulled-off a show stopping comeback of Mike Alvarado in the first part of their vicious fight trilogy.

Bradley marching along together with trainer Teddy Atlas

bradley99999By Yannis Mihanos: WBO welterweight champion Tim “Desert storm” Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) produced a convincing 9th round knockout victory last Saturday night against Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios (33-3-1, 24 KOs) at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Bradley overwhelmed a slow and over the hill Rios with his superior hand speed.

After the first two rounds the fight turned to a one sided display. Rios came to the fight with his mind made up to retire right after the fight. The money offer for this fight was $800,000 that Rios couldn’t turn it down.

The Atlas effect: Bradley dominates Rios

YouTube video

By Michael Montero, photos by Tiffany Lam – On an unseasonably chilly night in Las Vegas, Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley controlled Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios over nine one-sided rounds to win back the WBO welterweight title he lost to Manny Pacquiao last year. A sparse crowd of 5,106 trickled into the Thomas and Mack Center just off the strip in sin city, and was clearly pro Rios. However, Bradley would win them over as he scored a rare knockout which he setup with devastating body punches and tactical boxing. Many fans wondered how the two-division titlist would look with new trainer Teddy Atlas in his corner. So far it looks to be a match made in pugilistic heaven.

Bradley: Just imagine how I’ll look in a year with Teddy Atlas

rios0848566By Dan Ambrose: WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) was tooting his own horn last night after his 9th round knockout win over challenger Brandon Rios (33-3-1, 24 KOs) in their fight on HBO Championship Boxing in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Bradley says that he only worked with trainer Teddy Atlas for seven weeks to prepare for the Rios fight. Bradley feels that after a year of working with Atlas, he’ll be even better. Just how much better he thinks he’ll be is the big question. There is such a thing called diminishing returns, and I think we’ll see that with Bradley’s so-called improvement with Atlas.

Teddy Atlas wants Mayweather next for Bradley

atlas333By Chris Williams: If trainer Teddy Atlas gets his way, Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26 KOs) will be making a comeback in 2016 to specifically face his fighter WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) to see if who the better fighter is between the two of them. Atlas says he wants to test the wits of Mayweather by coming up with a game plan for Bradley to give Mayweather his first defeat of his career.

Atlas is betting that Mayweather, 38, won’t be satisfied with ending his career at 49 wins, because he thinks he’ll want to come back to get win No.50 against Bradley.

Arum in favor of Brandon Rios’ retirement

arum787By Tim Fletcher: Brandon Rios’ decision to retire from boxing has been met with approval from his promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank, who thinks it’s a good idea for the 29-year-old fighter to hang up the gloves at this point in his career if he’s saved enough money to retire on.

Rios looked like he didn’t have his heart into his fight last night in losing by a 9th round knockout to WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s hard to believe that a motivated Rios would have looked this bad.
