Hurtado Decisions Morua, Wins WBO Latino Welterweight Crown

hurtado3235By Manuel Perez: Welterweight Diobelys Hurtado (41-3, 25 KOs) defeated Arturo Morua (25-11-1, 14 KOs) by a 10-round split decision on Friday night to pick up the vacant World Boxing Organization Latino welterweight title at the Miccosukee Resort and Gaming, in Miami, Florida. Hurtado, 36, was dropped in the opening round, but came back to outwork Morua, 30, in rounds two through 10, getting the better of him with power punches and a stiff jab in the face. The final judges’ scores were 114-113, 114-113 for Hurtado, while the third judge scored the bout 114-113 for Morua.

Porter Stops Suarez, Davis Decisions Gonzalez – Boxing Results

porter44242By Chris Williams: Undefeated light middleweight prospect Shawn Porter (7-0, 6 KOs) destroyed a badly overmatched Eloy Suarez (10-5, 5 KOs) in the 1st round on Friday night at the Pepsi Pavilion, in Memphis, Tennessee. Porter, a 2008 Olympian for the United States, was all over Suarez from the opening bell, firing massive shots to the head and body. Porter ended matters with three huge left hooks to the head of Suarez while he was trapped in the corner.

fury34523438By Jim Dower: Undefeated heavyweight prospect Tyson Fury (4-0, 4 KOs) apparently isn’t backing off from his pursuit of a bout between him and British 2008 Olympic Bronze Medalist David Price (1-0, 1 KOs), offering to fight him on April 11th at the York Hall, in Bethnal Green, London. Fury, 20, doesn’t have an opponent as of yet for that fight and is interested in having the 6’8″ Price step in as his opponent.

anderson54353By Nate Anderson: Unbeaten super middleweight prospect Kenny Anderson (10-0, 7 KOs) defeated Nathan King (12-13, 1 KOs) by a 10-round decision on Friday night to win the vacant BBCofC Celtic super middleweight title at the Bellahouston Sports Centre, in Glascow, Scotland. The referee Richard James Davies scored it 96-95 for Anderson by a close margin. Anderson, 26, staggered King with a huge fight hand in the 2nd round, but was unable to put him down.

Morris Decisions Hamidi

morris43445By Nate Anderson: Lightweight Andy Morris (16-2, 5 KOs) defeated the tough journeyman Youssef Al Hamidi (5-16-1, 1 KOs) by a four-round decision on Friday night at the Bellahouston Sports Centre, in Glascow, Scotland. Morris, 26, making a comeback after a year and half away from boxing, totally outclassed the wily Hamidi, winning every round with ease and showing a lot of skills. Morris used his jab and a lot of movement to keep Hamidi guessing throughout the four-round bout.

Diaz Decisions Castro

diaz453435By Manuel Perez: Welterweight contender Antonio Diaz (46-5-1, 29 KOs) defeated previously unbeaten Javier Castro (19-2, 17 KOs) by a 10-round unanimous decision on Saturday night on the undercard of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Luciano Cuello light middleweight bout at the Plaza de Toros, in Tijuana, Mexico. The final judges’ scores were 95-94, 96-93 and 96-93. I personally had Castro winning the bout by at least three to four rounds because of his much better work rate. However, the judges seemed to be more impressed with Diaz’s harder shots.

price42343535By William Mackay: Heavyweight David Price (1-0, 1 KOs) looked very impressive in taking out journeyman David Ingleby (6-25-1, 4 KOs) in the 3rd round on Saturday night at the Echo Arena, in Liverpool, England. Price, 25, delivered a walloping right hand that connected to the side of Ingleby’s head in the 3rd, sending the journeyman toppling forward on his face. Bleeding badly from his nose, Ingleby got to his feet, stumbled backwards and fell against the ropes.

Lopez, 21, fought extremely well, throwing fast combinations to the head and body while showing good defensive skills in avoiding the big power shots from Herrera.

Klitschko’s fight last October was his first after a four year ring hiatus.

Corbett in the 14th round to win the heavyweight championship of the world. As a heavyweight fight between two of the greatest, most prestigious prize fighters of all time, the fight was considered the most renowned boxing match of the century. No one will ever forget Fitzsimmons’ win over Corbett that day in Carson City. It was a true ring classic. Not only was it a classic by boxing standards, at the time it exceeded all expectations for a financial endeavor of any kind.
