Has Antonio Margarito lost fans in the Mexican community?

By Dan Ambrose: Dan Rafael is reporting that the pay-per-view buys for the comeback fight for Antonio Margarito (38-6, 27 KO’s) were less than spectacular, bringing in between 12,000 and 15,000 PPV buys for Margarito’s fight against Roberto Garcia on May 8th at the Plaza Monumental, Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, Mexico. These are pretty horrible numbers when you compare them to the kind of numbers that the popular fighters like Floyd Mayweather Jr., Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto typically bring in for their fights. In fairness to Margarito, he did get 17,000 fans that showed up to see him fight the little known Garcia on May 8th, but the PPV numbers are what’s even more important than that for that fight.

Sauerland wants a Super Six-like cruiserweight tournament

By Eric Thomas: Dan Rafael is reporting that Kalle Sauerland, of Sauerland Events, is hoping to out together a cruiserweight tournament along the same lines as the Super Six tournament to get attention to their cruiserweights that they have in their stable. It’s obviously a good idea for Sauerland, because they have two of the best cruiserweights in the world with Marco Huck and Steve Cunningham, both of which currently hold titles in the cruserweight division.

Why have 5 champions in the same weight division? Why have a boxing commission that seems powerless. Well, we all know the answers….corruption and greed. Well, we the boxing fans are sick and tired of all this BS and we demand a F”bleep” change.

Allan Green says Ward “has a weak chin”

Image: Allan Green says Ward “has a weak chin”By William Mackay: Super Six tournament contestant Allan Green (29-1, 20 KO’s) thinks that WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (21-0, 13 KO’s) has a weak chin and he intends on taking advantage of that in their stage 2 Super Six tournament fight on June 19th at the Oracle Arena, in Oakland, California. Green, 30, says “If you really watch his [Ward] fights, he never goes blow-to-blow with another fighter. He will fight for 15-20 seconds with the jab, then he will grab, hold and push away. That’s the way he fights, and you can forget about him trying to do any inside fighting. He has a weak chin; I know it, he knows it, and everybody else knows it.”

Should Nate Campbell retire?

By Jason Kim: Last Saturday night, former IBF/WBA/WBO lightweight champion Nate Campbell (33-6-1, 25 KO’s) lost a lopsided 10 round unanimous decision to up and coming light welterweight contender Victor Ortiz (27-2-1, 21 KO’s) on the undercard of the WBA light welterweight title fight between champion Amir Khan and challenger Paulie Malignaggi at Madison Square Garden, in New York. There’s no shame in losing to a fine fighter like Ortiz. However, the way that the 38-year-old Campbell lost to Ortiz couldn’t be a good sign for the future for the aging fighter.

Khan: “Whoever wants to fight me, just tell them to line up”

By William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan wants bigger and better things in the future after he hopefully beats Paulie Malignaggi this Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. The 23-year-old Khan is in a hurry to make a mark in the United States, hopefully against better competition than he’s been facing. Malignaggi is a small step up from the fighters Khan has been facing recently, but not the kind of competition that many of his fans were hoping he would make by now. In an article at ESPN.co, Khan says “Whoever wants to fight me, just tell them to line up, I’ll fight all of them. I’m ready, I’ll hopefully get this guy [Malignaggi] out of the way and my American debut out of the way and then I’ll be ready for all of the other fighters in the division and we’ll just go from there.”

Froch still wants Abraham fight in Nottingham, not Germany – News

Image: Froch still wants Abraham fight in Nottingham, not Germany - NewsBy Scott Gilfoid: Former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) is stubbornly still looking to have his stage 3 Super Six fight take place in Nottingham, England, rather than Berlin, Germany, the home city of his next opponent Arthur Abraham. Froch, 32, lost his last fight in the Super Six tournament to Mikkel Kessler by a 12 round unanimous decision in Herning, Denmark. Froch believes he won the fight, despite many people, including myself, seeing Kessler as the winner. Froch and his promoter Mick Hennessy thought the next fight was going to be in Nottingham, and supposedly had a verbal agreement for the fight to take place there with Sauerland Events, the promoters for Abraham.

Should Bute be ranked #1 by The Ring?

Image: Should Bute be ranked #1 by The Ring?By Scott Gilfoid: In comparing International Boxing Federation super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (25-0, 20 KO’s) with the younger and faster super middleweights in the division like Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell, I don’t see how or why Bute is still ranked number #1 in The Ring pound for pound rankings. I don’t see Bute as a number #1 fighter, not after looking at how badly be performed in his fight with Librado Andrade in 2008. Bute was lucky to have escaped from that fight without being knocked out in the 12th round after having been dropped by Andrade late in the round.
