Sonya “The Scholar” Lamonakis Wins in Six Round Action-packed Bout

By Leo Kapakos: In another hard fought battle at Lou Dibella’s Broadway Boxing series at BB Kings in New York City last night, Sonya “The Scholar” Lamonakis (3-0, 1 KO) beat Tiffany Woodard (3-4, 2 KO’s) in a six-round heavyweight contest. The 35-year-old school teacher from Harlem, New York won by unanimous decision, in a hard fought fight from start to finish.

Instead of Marquez, which would be a very competitive and exciting opponent for Pacquiao, Arum is looking to put Pacquiao in with 39-year-old Shane Mosley in Pacquiao’s next fight. Mosley is more popular than Marquez, but doesn’t have a huge fan base. He’s probably much more popular than recent Pacquiao opponents Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito, but then again Mosley doesn’t fight for Top Rank as if this moment. Also, Mosley is fighting poorly now, and it looks to be a nice safe fight for Pacquiao and Arum.

Former World Middleweight Champ Iran Barkley homeless at 50

By Sam Gregory: 50 year old Iran “The Blade” Barkley began his professional boxing career in 1982; he retired in 1999 with a record of 43-19-1 with 27 KO’s. In Barkley’s 17 year career he fought some of the greatest fighters in the sport. Barkley’s biggest win came in June of 1988 when he stopped Tommy Hearns in 3 rounds for the WBC middleweight title. That fight was Ring magazines ‘upset of the year’ in 1988.
