If you lose your “0” you got to go!!

Image: If you lose your “0” you got to go!!By Paul Walsh: Boxing has changed, so much so that the most important thing is keeping your coveted “0” intact.   Gone are the days of the best fighting the best in their prime, it is all about keeping the undefeated record in place as that is what sells.  My fear is that unfortunately we are going to miss out on some serious talent because of it.

This past weekend’s fights at Atlantic City was a prime example of what I am talking about, two fast rising unbeaten fighters (Adrien Broner and Seth Mitchell) put their “0” on the line.  Both fights ended spectacularly but only one “0” remained.  Broner’s and with that he’s stock rose whereas Mitchell’s dropped dramatically.

TEAM UK vs TEAM USA; Wilder, Broner, Froch

Image: TEAM UK vs TEAM USA; Wilder, Broner, FrochBy Madern: Readers on this website are split between the nations of Great Britain and the U S of A (apologies to anyone else!) with a sense of animosity and a biased view. I am a representative of one of these great boxing countries but I will say no more.

This piece I have created is meant to be an unbiased view of who I would predict would be the winner between these  potential bouts.

Boxing is here to stay

I take offense to people who say boxing is dead. Boxing is very much still here and will continue to be here. Yeah, some people say its a slowly starting to fade, but I beg to differ with shows like 24/7 and Fight Camp 360 and not to mention the internet.

Beristain: I’m proud that Marquez has beaten Roach’s fighter Pacquiao three straight times

Image: Beristain: I'm proud that Marquez has beaten Roach's fighter Pacquiao three straight timesBy Chris Williams: Nacho Beristain, the trainer for Juan Manuel Marquez, feels that he’s clearly won all three fights with the Freddie Roach trained fighter Manny Pacquiao and he feels really proud about that as they head for a fourth fight between Pacquiao and Roach. Beristain feels that Marquez has been jobbed in all three Las Vegas fights and he’s wary now that they’re about to meet again.

Beristain said “I’m really proud to have beaten him [Roach], because I believe we won all three fights. A lot of Filipinos told me they felt Marquez won. Again we feel the bitter realization that the judges didn’t give us justice. The result of that fight [the third Pacquiao-Marquez fight] was shameful. In the history of boxing it will always be shameful.”

Rainone outboxes Cannon: Results from Long Island

Image: Rainone outboxes Cannon: Results from Long IslandBy Mike Stafford: Tommy Rainone scored knockdowns in the first and ninth rounds and cruised to a unanimous 10-round decision over Robbie Cannon to capture the IBA Americas welterweight title at the Plattdeutsch Park Restaurant, in Franklin Square, Long Island on Friday night.

A standing-room only crowd saw an incredible night of action as Bob Duffy’s Ring Promotions, in association with Winner Take All Productions, put on a fantastic, seven-bout card. How good was the matchmaking? All but one of the fights went to a decision. And two of the bouts were decided by majority decision.

Haye: Yusaf Mack isn’t in Froch’s league

Image: Haye: Yusaf Mack isn't in Froch's leagueBy Scott Gilfoid: A bored and tired looking David Haye gave IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) a vote of confidence over his opponent Yusaf Mack (31-4-2, 17 KO’s) for Saturday night at the Capital FM Arena, in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom. Haye figures that Mack isn’t at the same level as Froch and feels this should be a fairly easy win for Froch.

Speaking with Livefight.com, Haye said “Go out and do your thing with this guy, Mack. He’s not in your league…Let the Cobra bite.”

Oh brother. How funny. Haye sounding like he’s coming from up high in giving advice when he himself failed to lead by example in his dreadfully one-sided 12 round decision loss in his biggest fight of his career against Wladimir Klitschko last year. And here Haye is now giving advice to Froch. That’s a funny as heck.

Santa Cruz stops Zaleta

Image: Santa Cruz stops Zaleta(Photo: Showtime Sports) By Jim Dower: IBF bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (22-0-1, 13 KO’s) is making a pretty good case for him being the most exciting fighter in the bantamweight division. Earlier tonight, the 24-year-old Santa Cruz stopped the incredibly game Victor Zaleta (20-3-1, 10 KO’s) by a 9th round TKO at the Stapes Center in Los Angeles, California.

Santa Cruz knocked Zaleta down three times in the fight – the 4th, 7th and 9th rounds. The stoppage came from a hard right hand to the head of Zetala that put him down in the 9th. The two other knockdowns came from left hands to the body from Santa Cruz.

Bute needs to get a couple of more tune-ups under his belt before Froch rematch

Image: Bute needs to get a couple of more tune-ups under his belt before Froch rematchBy Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (31-1, 24 KO’s) shouldn’t rush into a rematch with Carl Froch just yet. Bute showed in his win over Denis Grachev last Saturday night that Bute still needs at least two, possibly three more tune-up bouts before he’ll be ready to fight Froch again.

The reason I feel this way is because of some of the bad habits that Bute showed in his win over Grachev, as well as in his loss to Froch. In both fights, Bute frequently retreated to the ropes to try and fight from that position.
