Deontay Wilder: If I knocked Tyson Fury I down, I’d have finished him off

fury1By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (27-0, 27 KO’s) says he’d have put UK heavyweight Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) out of his misery had it been him that had knocked the 6’9” Fury down last Saturday night instead of the smaller 6’3”, 210 lb. Steve Cunningham at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Cunningham, 36, dropped Fury in the 2nd round but then failed to go after him to try and finish him off despite the fact that he was badly hurt.

“No Doubt” Trout leaves no doubt:

trout72By Donald Crisp: Less than one day after the fight between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Austin “No Doubt” Trout left Trout with his first defeat, the internet waves are buzzing with controversy from the few, yet persistent naysayers who refuse to accept defeat, despite a poised concession to that effect by Trout himself.

There is no doubt. Mr. “No Doubt” himself spelled it out quite clearly, even for those who are hard of hearing or plainly, “special.”

Donaire recovering from shoulder surgery

donaire222By Chris Williams: Former two division world champion Nonito Donaire is recovering from his shoulder surgery that was performed last Friday to repair torn ligaments in his right shoulder. Donaire is saying that the surgery on his right shoulder was a success and that he should heal up fine and be back in the ring shortly.

Donaire said on his twitter “Surgery went well. Surgery was Friday and I only took 2 doses of Vicodin Dr. gave me. I have a high pain tolerance.”

Some boxing fans think Donaire’s excuse about needing shoulder surgery was a way for him to explain away his 12 round unanimous decision loss to WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux on April 13th of this month. Donaire lost the fight by the scores of 116-111, 115-112 and 114-113.

Tyson Fury’s trainer gives him poor marks for his win over Cunningham

fury54By Scott Gilfoid: Peter Fury, the trainer/uncle for unbeaten Irish heavyweight Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s), thinks he did a poor job in his 7th round TKO win over Steve Cunningham last Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York.

Peter thought Tyson didn’t fight a disciplined fight, which might explain partly why Fury was dropped by Cunningham in the 2nd round from a big right hand.

Peter said on his twitter: “This wasn’t him last night. I give it two out of ten. This is what happens when I’m not there. He didn’t follow procedure; he just went out of control.”

I honestly couldn’t tell the difference between Fury in this fight and the one that has fought in his other fights.

Trout wants rematch with Canelo; feels the scores were WAY off

canelo111(WBC president Jose Sulaiman seen here putting the WBC belt around Canelo Alvarez’s shoulders BEFORE the final judges scores were announced) By Dan Ambrose: Fresh off his controversial loss to WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) last Saturday night, Austin Trout (26-1, 14 KO’s) is already calling for a rematch to clear up the mess of the decision by the three judges at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The judges scored the fight 115-112, 116-111 and 118-109.

Boxing’s Bits and Pieces: Canelo beats Trout

trout77By benjijr: When the loser Austin Trout accepts defeat the controversy doesn’t last. WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez won last night, period! His win makes for bigger and better fights, so let’s sit back and enjoy the future of boxing! Canelo vs. Miguel Cotto anyone?

For those of you thinking that Zou Shiming doesn’t have what it takes, think again and stop underestimating the matchmaking at Top Rank. Remember what we thought of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr? Well, now he is a star and almost knocked out the middleweight champion of the world. can you imagine a Wilfredo Gomez in our times under the matchmaking of Top Rank, he could have been 100- no losses and 90 KO’s.

Deontay Wilder will destroy Tyson Fury: Prediction

fury122By Scott Gilfoid: After watching British heavyweight Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) defeated 210 pound Steve Cunningham by a 7th round TKO last night in New York, I think it’s academic at this point to say that American knockout artist Deontay Wilder (27-0, 27 KO’s) would absolutely destroy the 24-year-old Fury if given the chance to fight him.

Weighing 44 lbs. more than his opponent, Fury knocked Cunningham out by putting his big left forearm across his head and then while holding him in place with that arm, Fury then connected with a right hook to knock him out. Needless to say the knockdown shouldn’t have counted because you can’t physically hold your opponent in position while you nail him with shots. That’s called holding and hitting and Fury got away with it last night big time.

Andre Ward: Canelo-Trout was a really close fight

canelo18By Chris Williams: WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward thought the scores were a joke for last night’s fight between WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout and he saw it as a close fight.

Ward said on his social media site “Just watched the fight with Trout & Canelo. Wow, that was really a close fight! I have to watch it again. Trout showed mucho heart! What’s the deal with putting the belt on Canelo BEFORE the decision was announced? Really?? I have a very low tolerance for bad scoring.”
