Martin Murray only has himself to blame for loss to Sergio Martinez

martinez14By Scott Gilfoid: A day after Martin Murray’s 12 round unanimous decision loss to WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 28 KO’s) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Murray’s loyal fan are pitching a fit and crying about how Murray got jobbed by the three judges that gave the fight to Martinez.

Unfortunately, the person that Murray’s fans should be blaming is Murray himself. He was facing a 38-year-old fighter in Martinez, who can no longer fight at a fast pace without breaking down from one type of injury or another. There’s no excuse at all for Murray not fighting at a fast pace to push the tempo to wear Martinez down.

Wilder vs. Harrison: The COMMENTS

deontay7By Tony Crooks: First of all, I am English and I am proud of my heritage and no comment will ever take that away from me, full stop. Despite this, boxing is about boxing and boxers are about boxers. If a boxer is good and he comes from Outer Mongolia or the North Pole, so what, too much emphasis is put on where a pugilist is born. Whether he is white, black, yellow or orange it does not matter to me, all that interests me is the skills that they possess.

Heavyweight Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) beat Audley Harrison at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, UK and that was what was expected of him. I don’t care what anyone says, Wilder proved absolutely nothing. If he was British, I would say the same thing. What I am unable to understand are the keyboard cowards that make comments.

Judah: Matthysse punches harder than Danny Garcia

garcia3By Allan Fox: Now having fought both Lucas Matthysse (33-2, 31 KO’s) and Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KO’s), Zab Judah (42-8, 29 KO’s) says that Matthysse is the harder puncher of the two. Judah points out that Matthysse can punch hard with both hands, not just his left hand like Danny Garcia. Judah lost to Garcia last night by a 12 round unanimous decision by the scores of 116-111, 114-112 and 115-112 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

After the fight, Judah said “Danny punches nothing like Lucas. He punches hard with either hand. It’s crazy I beat him.”

David Haye vs. Manuel Charr confirmed for June 29th at the Manchester Arena in UK

charr2By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) has decided to take a soft opponent after all for his next fight. Haye, 32, is reportedly facing #8 WBC, Manuel Charr 23-1, 13 KO’s) for his next fight on June 29th at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK.

Charr may be ranked by the World Boxing Council in the top 10, but that’s the only sanctioning body that has him ranked in the top 15, and he’s clearly a 2nd tier/3rd tier fighter. I see him as just a tad bit above 3rd tier in terms of talent, and I’m so not surprised that Haye is fighting him.

This is a classic, record-padding fight for Haye and so, so typical of him.

Why Deontay Wilder is a long way from the top

wilder#1By Sean David: Heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) has an impressive record. However, it only looks impressive on paper. At the moment the record is only as strong as that paper. He may be capable of contending for titles at the top level, but he is a long way from hanging and banging with the big boys.

Deontay’s record is high in numbers but low in quality. After watching his interviews, he is quite a likeable character and the boxing always has room for characters. If all it took to be in the elite was some microphone skills then yes he would be in the top ten, but talk is cheap.

Tyson Fury talks Wilder and Khan-Diaz

deontay11By Scott Gilfoid Heavyweight Tyson Fury says if the unbeaten American heavyweight Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) wants to fight him then he’s going to have go get in line behind the other heavyweight fights he’s got planned.

Fury saw Amir Khan’s fight with Julio Diaz last night, and he came away thinking that Diaz should have been given the decision. I agree with Fury in that. Diaz did more than enough to win a close decision given the knockdown and the fact that he won three out of the last four rounds.

Khan might as well be back with Freddie Roach

khan111By Scott Gilfoid: After seeing how badly Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) struggled to defeat the non-top 15 ranked Julio Diaz (40-8, 29 KO’s) last night in his controversial 12 round unanimous decision win in Sheffield, Khan might as well be back with his old trainer Freddie Roach because his new trainer Virgil Hunter doesn’t seem to be bringing any positive changes in Khan’s game as far as I can tell.

Khan was hurt at least five times in the fight last night and dropped in the 4th. The fact that Khan was getting hurt over and over again by a fighter like Diaz tells me that Khan might as well go back to Freddie Roach at the Wildcard Gym in Los Angeles because I think he was a better fighter for Roach than he is with Hunter.

Canelo: Hoping Guerrero will beat Mayweather on Saturday

Floyd Mayweather gets gloves onBy Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez thinks Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) will defeat unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) this Saturday night in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Canelo is really hoping that takes place because his chances of getting a fight with Guerrero are quite high, even though Canelo would likely out-weigh Guerrero by 25 pounds by the time they stepped foot in the ring.

Canelo said to Showtime: “All the work we put in the strategy we had for this fight went very well, and most importantly we won. It was a fight where we couldn’t throw a lot of punches because he’s a southpaw because of the style. I came to fight my fight and win the way I thought I would win and I’m very pleased with the victory and I’m going to repeat:

Schaefer: We want Deontay to fight David Price or Tyson Fury

wilder7By Scott Gilfoid: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer says he’d like to set up a fight between his fighter unbeaten heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) and the top British heavyweights David Price or Tyson Fury if they’re willing to fight him.

Schaefer doesn’t think they are, but he’s very, very interested in making that fight if either of them gets the courage to accept the fight with the 6’7” knockout artist Wilder.

Deontay stopped one of Britain’s best heavyweights in Audley Harrison in the 1st round last night in Sheffield. It’s too bad Britain’s two biggest heavyweights won’t step up to the plate to fight Deontay because it kind of looks bad that they don’t want to test themselves against him.

Khan beats Diaz & Martinez decisions Murray in unpopular decisions

martinez66A lot has been said over the years about home decisions and that was yet again the case tonight, one in Sheffield, England and the other in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Both of the fights were competitive and top class boxing was on display but surely it’s time that these dodgy decisions have to be cut from the sport before they kill it.

First up in the evening was what was meant to be a routine tune-up fight for Amir “King” Khan against the well respected but perhaps getting on a bit in his career, Julio Diaz. Khan came out and for the first couple of rounds demonstrated his blistering hand-speed and solid footwork but as the fight went on much like the Khan v Garcia fight of last year Diaz found his range and began to tag Khan.
