Brandon Rios vs. Antonio DeMarco 143lb catch-weight fight possible

rios59By Chris Williams: Top Rank is reportedly interested in matching former WBO lightweight champion Brandon Rios (31-2, 23 KO’s) up against former WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (30-3-1, 23 KO’s) in a catch-weight at 143lbs, according to Dan Rafael. He says that the fight won’t be at 140, the weight class that both Rios and DeMarco both fight at. Rafael says there’s too much risk involved as far as Rios making the 140lb weight limit for the fight, so it would have to take place at 143.

“I checked with Top Rank as it related to a possible DeMarco-Rios fight,” Rafael said in his chat at ESPN. “IF it happens, and it’s being discussed, it would not be at 140. It would be around 143, as per TR.”

HBO cool to the idea of Provodnikov fighting DeMarco on June 14th

provodnikov22By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is looking to match former WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco against WBO light welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov (23-2, 16 KO’s) for his next fight on June 14th on HBO. According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, HBO isn’t entirely excited at the idea of televising a fight between Provodnikov and the recently knocked out DeMarco. HBO wants to see Provodnikov fight the winner of the Karim Mayfield vs. Thomas Dulorme, which takes place next month on March 29th. Mayfield probably wins that fight.

Not sure why HBO doesn’t want to televise the fight, but it could be that they feel that boxing fans will still remember the image of DeMarco getting stopped by Adrien Broner in late 2012. That was less than a year and half ago that Broner destroyed DeMarco, and that might be too soon to have DeMarco getting a world title shot.

Antonio DeMarco vs. Jesus Gurrola this Saturday in Tijuana, Mexico

broner7By Eric Thomas: Former WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (29-3-1, 22 KO’s) will be fighting this Saturday night in a scheduled 10 round bout against 31-year-old Jesus Gurrola (20-5-3, 9 KO’s) in a bout in the light welterweight class at the Casino Hipodromo Agua Caliente, Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.

DeMarco, 27, fought only once in 2013 in beating Fidel Monterrosa Munoz by a 5th round TKO win last year in August. DeMarco lost his WBC 135 lb. title To Adrien Broner by an 8th round stoppage in November of 2012. The loss might have been a tough blow to DeMarco’s psyche, because he stayed out of the ring for 9 months following the loss. He then took off another 5 months before his scheduled fight against Gurrola on Saturday.

Antonio DeMarco vs. Fidel Monterrosa Munoz this Saturday, August 10th

demarco56By Eric Thomas: Former WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (28-3-1, 21 KO’s) will be fighting for the first time in 9 months since his 8th round TKO loss to Adrien Broner last November. DeMarco, 27, will be facing light welterweight Fidel Monterrosa Munoz (31-7-1, 25 KO’s) at the Hipódromo Caliente, Arena Tecate, Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.

This could be a tough fight for DeMarco, because Munoz gave a prime version of Humberto Soto all he could handle in losing to him by a 12 round unanimous decision three years ago in 2010.

Munoz, 25, hasn’t had the best of luck since then, because he’s lost to Soto in a rematch, Fernando Castaneda, Claudio Alfredo Olmedo, Pablo Cesar Cano, and Roberto Ortiz. Munoz was a lot better at lightweight than he is at light welterweight.

DeMarco not interested in Gamboa bout

demarco56By Dan Ambrose: Former WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco’s team has reportedly turned down a fight against super featherweight Yuriorkis Gamboa (22-0, 16 KO’s) for a fight that would have been televised by HBO.

Dan Rafael says that the fight was offered to DeMarco for the Spring, as HBO still owes DeMarco a fight from his deal to fight Adrien Broner last November, but DeMarco’s team wasn’t interested in taking the fight.

DeMarco (28-3-1, 21 KO’s) hasn’t fought since being stopped by Broner in that fight, and he still doesn’t have anything scheduled now four months later. Granted, DeMarco, #3 WBC, #13 WBO, took a real beating by Broner in that fight, but he should at least be looking to get back in the ring soon, shouldn’t he? You don’t want to see DeMarco losing a year of his career just because he got beaten up by Broner.

Is Adrien Broner the new Floyd Mayweather?? No he’s the new generation of boxing!!

Image: Is Adrien Broner the new Floyd Mayweather?? No he’s the new generation of boxing!!By Paul Walsh: The only similarities between Adrien Broner and Floyd Mayweather are they are both black American, unbeaten and charismatic and that is where the similarities end.  After watching Broner’s eight round demolition of lightweight king Antonio DeMarco I was pleased as I knew the world would finally stand up and appreciate the star that is Adrien Broner.

I have been following his career for a long time and from the first fight I saw I knew he was something special.  No longer is he just another flashy, cocky, trash talking fighter with too much confidence he actually has the skill and talent to back it up.  He is indeed a problem.

The Broner Dilemma

Image: The Broner DilemmaBy Rusty Nate: I recently read an article regarding Adrien Broner and what is next for him after capturing the World Title from Demarco and also securing the number 1 spot in the Ring Lightweight Ranking.

A lot has been speculated.

He shouldn’t fight Burns because it would be an easy win so what’s the point.

He should step straight up and fight the champions at Light Welter.

Broner, Froch, Bellew, Banks: What did we learn?

Image: Broner, Froch, Bellew, Banks: What did we learn?By Rusty Nate: Well after a wonderful weekend of fights what did we learn from it all? We’ll start at the bottom and work up……

Bellew Vs Bolonti – UD

I think this was an amazing fight. Not because it was full of knock downs or because they both went to out and out war but because it showed us a HUGE amount about the character of Tony Bellew.
