Wilder expects Eric Molina to give Joshua problems

1-joshuamolinahires

By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder expects former world title challenger Eric Molina (25-3, 19 KOs) to potentially give IBF heavyweight title holder Anthony Joshua (17-0, 17 KOs) problems in their fight on December 10 at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England.

Wilder thinks that Molina’s heart and determination to win will make him fight harder. Molina will take more shots in this fight in order to try and win. He’ll land more shots. Joshua will need to be able to take some punches for a change, because the guys he’s been fighting haven’t been throwing punches.

They’ve been just standing around looking too timid to let their hands go. The last time Joshua fought guys that threw punches back at him was in the 2012 Olympics, when he won one controversial fight after another against guys that appeared to get the better of him.

WBA sanctions Anthony Joshua vs. Wladimir Klitschko fight

wladimir3

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko will be the two heavyweights that will be fighting over the vacant World Boxing Association ‘Super Championship’ belt in the first quarter of 2017, according to the WBA. This is the second WBA heavyweight title that will be fought over.

The WBA also ordered Shannon Briggs and Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne to fight for the WBA ‘regular’ heavyweight title. This is good news for fans. Wladimir (64-4, 53 KOs) gets to fight Joshua (17-0, 17 KOs) for the WBA strap, and you get Browne and the 44-year-old Briggs fighting for the WBA’s junior heavyweight strap.

Molina: I’ll hit Joshua harder than he’s ever been hit

1-WILDERvsMOLINA-06132015-4562

By Scott Gilfoid: Contender Eric Molina 25-3, 19 KOs) says he plans on hitting IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (17-0, 17 KOs) harder than he’s ever been hit before in his three-year pro career when the heavyweights fight each other next month on December 10 on Sky Box Office pay-per-view from the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England.

It doesn’t really say much that Molina will be hitting Joshua harder than he’s been hit as a pro, because he’s been matched by his promoter against largely non-punchers since he turned pro. The only guy of the 17 opponents that Joshua has faced with any kind of pop in his punches was Dillian Whyte, who came into the fight with him last December with a bad left shoulder. That was Whyte’s power hand.

Joshua-Molina & Whyte-Chisora on December 10

1-joshuamolinahires

By Scott Gilfoid: Well, it’s now official that IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua will be defending his strap against #8 IBF contender Eric Molina on December 10th at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England. A good fight, this is not. It’s a nice mismatch, and rate it as a worse mismatch than Joshua’s recent dreadful fight against fringe contender Dominic Breazeale last June at the O2 in London.

The boxing fans don’t seem to be greeting the news of the Joshua-Molina fight with happiness. In looking at the various forums on the Internet, the fans seem pretty angry about the Joshua vs. Molina fight, as they see it largely as a mismatch. The fact that the fight is on pay-per-view is a little disturbing for me.

It’s hard to know why Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn picked the 34-year-old recently knocked out Molina for Joshua’s opponent instead of someone good. All I can think of is Molina was selected was for the same reason that Breazeale was picked out for Joshua last time.

Joshua’s December 10th fight televised by Showtime

joshua789

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua’s December 10th fight will be televised by Showtime Boxing in the U.S, which isn’t all that surprising news, because the British fighter was recently signed by the network to a multi-fight deal. However, Showtime will be taking a gamble in showing the 6’6” Joshua’s fight, because they still don’t know who the opponent will be for him.

According to Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn, the list of candidates for his December 10 fight is down to these three options: David Price, Eric Molina and Bryant Jennings. Those are not exactly world beaters.

Eric Molina vs. Anthony Joshua likely for December 10

joshua86111

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua could be facing WBC champion Deontay Wilder’s leftovers in facing Eric Molina in his next fight on December 10 at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England. That’s the name that is being mentioned for Joshua.

Molina, 34, still hasn’t been officially named as Joshua’s next opponent, but he’s expected to. It won’t be the greatest news for the boxing world if that’s who Joshua winds up fighting. I hate to say it, but this going to be a step down for Joshua from his last fight against Dominic Breazeale.

Wladimir Klitschko wants Anthony Joshua in March or April 2017

wladimir3

By Scott Gilfoid: Former heavyweight champion Wladimir “Steel hammer” Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) says he’s not about to retire from boxing, and he’s very much interested in facing IBF heavyweight belt holder Anthony Joshua (17-0, 17 KOs) in March or April of 2017. The soon to be 41-year-old Klitschko thinks a fight between him and the 26-year-old Joshua will be the hugest fight at heavyweight in many years.

It’s a fight that would certainly give Wladimir and Joshua big paydays. However, it might under produce like the dud between Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis in 2002. There was a TREMENDOUS amount of hype before that fight, even though Tyson was clearly no longer the fighter he’d been in the late 1980s. As such, it was a fight that was 15 years too late.

Haye: Joshua will fight Eric Molina next

1-WILDERMOLINA-06132015-5214-2

By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye says IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua will be fighting #8 WBC Eric Molina (25-4, 19 KOs) next in December. Haye says he’s pretty sure about Molina, 34, being the guy that will be facing Joshua next.

Haye says he’s disappointed at the news of Wladimir Klitschko suffering a calf injury and not being available to fight Joshua, because he felt that would have been Joshua’s coming out party if the fight had happened in December.
