Image: Dibella sees Gerald Washington as good test for Deontay Wilder

By Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Lou Dibella has found a very good fighter in #10 WBC Gerald Washington (18-0-1, 12 KOs_ to step in and replace Andrzej Wawrzyk as the opponent for WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) for their fight on February 25 on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox and Fox Deportes at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

Wawrzyk failed a drug test after testing positive for the banned anabolic steroid stanazolol. Dibella believes that the 6’7” Washington will be more of a test than the 6’6” Wawrzyk would have been, and he’s probably right.

Klitschko: Is Joshua the new Frank Bruno?

Image: Klitschko: Is Joshua the new Frank Bruno?

By Scott Gilfoid: Today in speaking with the boxing media, former heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) said there are a lot of unknowns about his opponent IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (18-0, 18 KOs), who he’ll be fighting on April 29 at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

Wladimir said that the 27-year-old Joshua is still a very raw fighter at his age largely because he’s not been matched against good enough fighters for the boxing fans to learn much from him. He’s not been matched against good opponent opponents for him to get any real experience that you would see from fighters holding down titles.

Will Klitschko retire after losing to Joshua?

Image: Will Klitschko retire after losing to Joshua?

By Scott Gilfoid: The 41-year-old Wladimir Klitschko hasn’t said whether he’ll retire from boxing if he loses his match against IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in three months from now on April 29. Wladimir hasn’t fought in two years, and hasn’t won a fight in three years since 2014. It would seem like a logical step for the Ukrainian to make rather than dragging his career further and ruining his legacy by getting beaten by other top fighters.

Wladimir had a good career with the high point arguably being his win over David Haye in 2011. Other than that victory, Wladimir’s resume is rather empty of wins over solid heavyweights. He beat fighters like Samuel Peter, Mariusz Wach, Calvin Brock, Chris Byrd and Jean Marc Mormeck.

Image: Ivan Dychko turns pro, wants Joshua rematch

By Scott Gilfoid: 6’9” Kazakhstan heavyweight and two-time Olympic bronze medalist Ivan Dychko has turned pro, and signed with MJA Entertainment, a promotional company out of Australia. Still only 26, Dychko wants to avenge his HIGHLY questionable decision loss to Anthony Joshua from the 2012 Olympics.

The Olympics that year took place in London, England, and Joshua had the crowd fully behind him in each of his four fights in that Olympics. Dychko appeared to beat Joshua, but found himself on the losing end of a 13-11 decision.

Joshua plans to work through dream fight ‘hit list’

Image: Joshua plans to work through dream fight ‘hit list’

By Adam Godfrey: Anthony Joshua yesterday revealed the existence of a ‘hit list’ containing potential opponents against which he plans to do battle in the short to medium term future. These are the marquee names that Joshua hopes will someday soon elevate his status, should he maintain his unbeaten record, to that of Boxing Superstar both at home and abroad. If Joshua’s plan purported plan materialises, 2017 could be a big year for fans of the Heavyweight division.

Joshua told Sky Sports “I can’t wait for Tyson Fury to get back, for David Haye to deal with Tony Bellew or Bellew to deal with Haye. Klitchko, Wilder, Joseph Parker-those name are the key names for me. I’ve got them all pinned up somewhere and I’m just going to pluck them off one by one”.

Joshua wants to create interest in U.S for Klitschko fight

Image: Joshua wants to create interest in U.S for Klitschko fight

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua will be coming to the U.S soon to try and market his fight against inactive heavyweight Wladimir Klitschko on April 29 at Wembley Stadium in London, England. It seems that Joshua is going about it the wrong way to become popular in the U.S. Instead of fighting older guys coming off of a 2-year layoff and a loss, Joshua should be fighting the young lions like Deontay Wilder and Jarrell Miller. Fighting the 41-year-old Wladimir made sense 10 years ago, but not now.

The Joshua-Klitschko fight will be televised in the U.S on one of the premium channels – either HBO or Showtime. The good news for boxing fans in the States is that the Joshua vs. Klitschko fight won’t be on pay-per-view like it is in the UK. It’s not a sellable fight in the U.S.

Joshua sees win over Klitschko making him more credible

Image: Joshua sees win over Klitschko making him more credible

By Scott Gilfoid: After IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua beats 41-year-old Wladimir Klitschko on April 29, he expects his credibility to increase his credibility in the boxing world. Joshua, 27, believes a win over former world champion Klitschko will give him more status in the sport.

It didn’t really work well for Tyson Fury though after he beat Klitschko. Instead of Fury being seen as a great, he was seen as someone that picked the right moment in Klitshko’s career to fight him. I suspect it’ll be much the same with Joshua, but even more so.

Hearn wants big fights only for Anthony Joshua

Image: Hearn wants big fights only for Anthony Joshua

By Scott Gilfoid: After moving Anthony Joshua’s career slowly since he turned pro in 2013, Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn says he wants to have him fight “big fights only” at this point beginning with his match against Wladimir Klitschko on April 29 on Sky Box Office pay-per-view.

Hearn wants a unification fight for Joshua and WBC champion Deontay Wilder, and he’s hoping he can make that fight into a big one in both countries. Hearn hasn’t said it yet, but he might be hoping to make the Joshua vs. Wilder fight a pay-per-view match in the U.S, which is going to be a really tough to sell.

Image: Haye wants Fury and Joshua as part of his last 5 fights

By Chris Williams: David Haye (28-2, 26 KOs) sees himself in the twilight of his boxing career with only five remains with one of them being against Tony Bellew, and possibly two others being against Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. Haye, 36, wants to maximize his income before he calls it a day to become a fulltime promoter with Haymaker Ringstar with Richard Schaefer, the former Golden Boy Promotions CEO.

Haye has the Bellew (28-2-1, 18 KOs) fight scheduled for March 4 on Sky Box Office pay-per-view at the O2 Arena in London, England. Haye is hoping to make quick work of the 33-year-old Bellew, and then move onto bigger and better things against Joshua and Fury. The fight against Joshua is one that will almost surely happen, as his promoter Eddie Hearn is interested in the fight.
