Wladimir: Joshua is a copy of me

Image: Wladimir: Joshua is a copy of me

By Scott Gilfoid: The 41-year-old Wladimir Klitschko says he sees IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua as a mirror of himself, but at a considerably younger age at 27. The two big heavyweights will be fighting in a little over two months on April 29 at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

Wladimir sees the fight as the toughest test, although you would have to look at his 2003 fight against the late Corrie Sanders as a far tougher test. The blazing fast and very powerful southpaw Sanders wiped Wladimir out in just 2 rounds. Wladimir never fought Sanders again for some reason. Instead, Wladimir’s older brother Vitali Klitschko avenged his loss in a grueling fight that saw Vitali staggered at one point.

Hearn: Joshua will stand in front of Klitschko and throw shots

Image: Hearn: Joshua will stand in front of Klitschko and throw shots

By Jim Dower: IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua won’t be treating Wladimir Klitschko any different than he has his other 18 opponents during his pro career when the two of them face each other on April 29, says his promoter Eddie Hearn. He says Joshua will stand directly in front of Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) and will be throwing his power shots as he normally does in his fights.

This is different type of opponent for the 27-year-old Joshua from the fighters that have been hand-picked for him by Hearn since he turned pro in 2013. There’s nothing wrong with Joshua (18-0, 18 KOs) being a tiny bit cautious for this fight.

Haye surprised by Joshua’s improvement

Image: Haye surprised by Joshua’s improvement

By Scott Gilfoid: David Haye says he was surprised at the rabid improvement Anthony Joshua made after he turned pro in 2013 following a gold medal victory in the 2012 London Olympics. Haye says he saw Joshua as a contender in the future, but he was surprised that he was able to move past that.

Joshua is now the IBF heavyweight champion and he’s successfully defended the title twice in beating Dominic Breazeale and Eric Molina. Joshua is about to make his third defense of his title in two months from now against 41-year-old Wladimir Klitschko on April 29 in front of 90,000 boxing fans at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

Klitschko would beat Joshua if Steward were still here says Lewis

Image: Klitschko would beat Joshua if Steward were still here says Lewis

By Jeff Aranow: Former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis believes that Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) would have never lost to Tyson Fury if his late trainer Emanuel Steward were still alive and training him. Lewis believes that Wladimir would beat IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (18-0, 18 KOs) if Steward were still with him. Wladimir will be facing Joshua on April 29 at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

Steward passed away in 2012, and Wladimir has been trained ever since then by Jonathon Banks, a fighter that knows Steward’s training style quite well.

Heavyweight wish list for this year

Image: Heavyweight wish list for this year

By Gav Duthie: It was a fair conclusion that the heavyweight division was the most disappointing of all 17 weight classes in 2016. From failed drug tests to fight cancellations and titles without owners the year spectacularly failed to live up to expectations. The division still has a lot of promise with new champions and exciting talents but I feel 5 things need to happen for the big guys to fulfill their potential.

A buoyant heavyweight division keeps boxing at the top in terms of customer interest. When Tyson Fury dethroned Wladimir Klitschko it blew the division wide open. I expected fire works in 2016 and despite some brief flickering flames I was utterly disappointed.

Peter Fury favors Klitschko over Joshua

Image: Peter Fury favors Klitschko over Joshua

By Scott Gilfoid: Peter Fury, the trainer for former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, is picking Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) to beat IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (18-0, 18 KOs) in their fight on April 29 on Sky Box Office pay-per-view from Wembley Stadium in London, England.

Peter says it’s up to how much Wladimir wants the fight, and how much he has left in the tank. Peter doesn’t know if Wladimir is just coming back for a payday or not. He wonders with Wladimir being out of the ring for two years just how much desire he still has for the game.

Hearn wants Joshua vs. Wilder to be PPV in U.S

Image: Hearn wants Joshua vs. Wilder to be PPV in U.S

By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn wants the unification fight between his fighter IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (18-0, 18 KOs) and American WBC champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) to be on pay-per-view not only in the UK, but also in the U.S.

Right now, if the Joshua-Wilder fight were to be televised in the States, it would almost certainly be on non-PPV. The reason for that is because Wilder is not a big star in the U.S and neither is Joshua. The American boxing public has only seen two or three of Joshua’s fights on Showtime, and those were mismatches against weak opposition in Charles Martin, Eric Molina and Dominic Breazeale.

Tyron Zeuge vs. Isaac Ekpo on March 18 in Germany

By Eric Baldwin: WBA World super middleweight champion Tyron Zeuge (19-0-1, 11 KOs) will be making his first defense of his title against #3 WBA challenger Isaac Ekpo (31-2, 24 KOs) on March 18 at the MBS Arena in Potsdam, Brandenburg, Germany.

The 24-year-Zeuge recently won the WBA title with a 12th round knockout victory over WBA champion Giovanni De Carolis last November. The fact that Zeuge got a second chance at fighting De Carolis is a miracle, because he fought him to a 12 round draw in their first fight in July of last year.

Hearn: Joshua will be crowned the new worldwide sensation on April 29

Image: Hearn: Joshua will be crowned the new worldwide sensation on April 29

By Scott Gilfoid: As far as promoter Eddie Hearn is concerned, his fighter Anthony Joshua will be crowned the new star in boxing worldwide after he beats Wladimir Klitschko in their fight in two months from now on April 29 on Sky Box Office PPV at the Wembley Stadium in London, England.

Hearn thinks it’s going to be the crowning of the 27-year-old Joshua. A lot of boxing fans see Joshua as just an over-muscled body-builder, who has been spoon-fed fodder opposition by Hearn since he signed the British 2012 Olympic gold medalist. Hearn has been very careful with the fighters that he’s put the 6’6” Joshua in with at the pro level.
