By Gav Duthie: The World boxing super series has been a great success far. Oleksandr Usyk landed on top in the first battle at cruiserweight, George Groves and Callum Smith will contest 168lb final and another two divisions, lightweight and bantamweight have been confirmed with a host of stars in each to commence later in the year. What would a heavyweight tournament look like though. Boxing’s flagship division is having a bit of trouble getting the stars together namely Joshua and Wilder and the idea of the WBSS is that it brings the best together with one ultimate goal to find the best fighter in the division. In reality I think there is to much conflict and money at heavyweight for the best to agree but lets live in a fantasy world and see how this might turn out if it ever happened.

By Tim Royner: After his 12 round unanimous decision win over Murat Gassiev in their big unification fight on July 21, the World Boxing Organization has made Aleksandr Usyk their ‘Super Champion,’ at cruiserweight, which means he’s now available to be WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua’s mandatory challenger once he moves up in weight to heavyweight, according to Talksport. Usyk will be given a special belt for his WBO ‘Super Champion’ status.

By Jeff Aranow: Luis Ortiz (29-1, 25 KOs) let it be known after his 2nd round knockout victory over the 31-year-old Razvan Cojanu (16-4, 9 KOs) last Saturday night that he wants to challenge for a world title against heavyweight champions Anthony Joshua or Deontay Wilder. However, the 39-year-old Ortiz says he may need to be on disability for him to get a title shot against Joshua, as he believes the British fighter is avoidant of facing tough opposition. Ortiz feels that Joshua only fight guys that he knows he can beat, which is why he didn’t agree to face WBC champion Deontay Wilder for September.
