Image: Andre Dirrell: "I know I'll be world champion"By Scott Gilfoid: #5 IBF, #5 WBC super middleweight contender Andre Dirrell (25-2, 16 KOs) put on a beautiful boxing display last night in beating the capable Blake Caparello (22-2-1, 6 KOs) by a lopsided 10 round unanimous decision at the Taj Mahal Casino and Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Other than a flash knockdown that Dirrell suffered in the 2nd round when he was hit by a left hand from Caparello when he didn’t have his feet set, Dirrell looked sensational. He wasn’t hurt by the shot that knocked him down. It was more of a case of Dirrell’s feet being squared when he was hit by a shot he wasn’t expecting from Caparello.

McDonnell wins again against Kameda(Photo credit: Lucas Noonan/Premier Boxing Champions) By Scott Bells: Anthony Dirrell (28-1-1, 22 KOs) bounced back from his loss to Badou Jack with an easy win against long faded former world title challenger Marco Antonio Rubio (59-8-1, 51 KOs) on Sunday afternoon in a fight televised by Premier Boxing Champions on CBS at the American Bank Center, Corpus Christi, Texas, USA.

Dirrell showed fast hands, but it really is worrying that he couldn’t put Rubio away – his lack of power really is worrying. Rubio was moving up in weight after being dominated by Gennday Golovkin so this fight was truly exceptional matchmaking from Dirrell’s promoters to make him look good.

Dirrell decisions Rubio; McDonnell defeats Kameda by controversial decision

EW5G1481(Photo credit: Lucas Noonan/Premier Boxing Champions) By Scott Gilfoid: In a sensational performance, former WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell (28-1-1, 22 KOs) put on a power punching clinic in defeating former two time world title challenger 35-year-old Marco Antonio Rubio (59-8-1, 51 KOs) by one-sided 10 round unanimous decision on Premier Boxing Champions on CBS from the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. The final judges’ scores were 100-90, 100-90 and 100-90.

Dirrell looked incredibly talented in teeing off on Rubio with beautiful single power shots to the head. Dirrell did throw some combinations in the fight, but obviously not enough to get the stoppage. That was what was needed for the 30-year-old Dirrell to get a knockout in this fight, because Rubio was able to handle his single pot shots fine. It was when Dirrell threw combinations that Rubio looked troubled.

For the Americans who might be worried about whether they can see this interesting fight, it’s on free television on CBS, starting at 4pm ET/1pm PT. It’s a great fight that promises plenty of action from start to finish. Originally when I saw that the fight was only scheduled for 10 rounds, I thought it was a bad deal, because for an exciting contest like this one, you want to see a full 12 round fight.
