Donaire still looking for next opponent, Moreno not interested
By Jason Kim: Bob Arum, the promoter for WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (26-1, 18 KO’s), is still looking for an opponent for Donaire’s next fight after WBA bantamweight champion Anselmo Moreno reportedly turned down the invitation to fight Donaire in November. This was a fight that Donaire and Arum wanted, as it would have given Donaire a third belt at bantamweight to go along with his other two.
Golovkin TKOs Ouma in the 10th
By Dan Ambrose: Making his first defense of his World Boxing Association (WBA) World middleweight title unbeaten champion Gennady Golovkin (21-0, 18 KO’s) stopped former IBF junior middleweight champ Kassim Ouma (27-8-1, 17 KO’s) in the 10th round at the Roberto Duran Arena in Panama City, Panama. TGolovkin, 29, hurt Ouma with a series of hard shots in the 10th round and was punishing him on the ropes when the referee Guillermo Perez stopped the fight at 1:57 of the round.
Donaire vs. Moreno and Mike Jones vs. Antonin Decarie on 5/28
By Chris Williams: WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (26-1, 18 KO’s) will be returning to the ring for a unification bout against WBA bantamweight champion Anselmo Moreno on May 28th. Also on the card will be unbeaten welterweight contender Mike Jones (24-0, 18 KO’s) against Canadian contender Antonin Decarie (25-1, 7 KO’s). The Moreno-Donaire fight seems hardly worth it because Moreno is totally unknown in the United States and winning another useless alphabet title doesn’t really give Donaire the shot in the arm that his people think it will be.
