By Allan Fox: Former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (26-2-1, 16 KOs) is hoping WBA World 147lb belt holder Keith “One Time” Thurman (27-0, 22 KOs) will give him a rematch so that he can avenge his 12 round unanimous decision loss from June 25. Thurman is Porter’s No.1 target for his next fight if he can get it. However, if Porter can’t get a second fight against Thurman right away, he’d like to get a fight against one of the following fighters: Danny Garcia, Andre Berto, Brandon Rios, John Molina or Ruslan Provodnikov.

Porter can be back inside the ring within the next three months, according to his trainer/father Kenny Porter. That’s an incredibly quick turnaround for a fighter that took as much punishment as Porter did.

Andre Berto sees weakness in Danny Garcia

Andre Berto

By Allan Fox: Former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (31-4, 24 KOs) is one of the potential opponents for WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia for his next fight. Berto, Adrien Broner and Amir Khan are considered three strong potential opponents for the 27-year-old Garcia.

Berto says he sees flaws in Garcia’s game that he would look to take advantage of it he winds up facing him. Ultimately, whether Berto faces Garcia or now will depend on their mutual adviser Al Haymon, and of course it’ll depend on Garcia and his father Angel Garcia.

berto84

By Dan Ambrose: While it still remains uncertain whether the fans will soon see a unification fight between Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, former welterweight champion Andre Berto (31-4, 24 KOs) is already saying he wants to fight the winner of the contest.

#3 WBC Berto is coming off a big career-saving 4th round knockout win over Victor Ortiz last April, and he’s in line for a world title shot against WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia.

Victor Ortiz not retiring, wants Berto third fight

Image: Victor Ortiz not retiring, wants Berto third fightBy Patrick McHugh: Victor Ortiz (31-6-2, 24 K0s) suffered his fourth defeat in his last six fights last Saturday night in getting stopped in the fourth round by 32-year-old Andre Berto (31-4, 24 KOs) at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Ortiz changed his fighting style completely in this fight by not slugging, and yet he was still knocked down twice in the 4th round and stopped by Berto at 1:14 of the round. After the fight, the 29-year-old Ortiz was adamant about wanting to continue his pro career despite his lack of success in the last five years.

Berto says sparring with Ward helped him with Ortiz fight

Image: Berto says sparring with Ward helped him with Ortiz fightBy Allan Fox: Andre Berto (31-4, 24 KOs) tuned his career around last Saturday night with a fourth round knockout win over his old nemesis Victor Ortiz (31-6-2, 24 KOs) in their rematch at the DC Armory in Washington, DC.

A loss for Berto in this fight would have removed any chance of him getting a crack at WBC 147lb world champion Danny Garcia, and it might have did his career in. The improvement that Berto made in his skills came from his hard work in sparring with former WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward, who shares the same trainer as him in Virgil Hunter out of Hayward, California.

The win for Berto was an impressive won because he turned back the clock with the victory. It was easily the best performance from the 32-year-old Berto since his win over former IBF welterweight champion Jan Zaveck in 2011.

Berto destroys Ortiz in 4th round KO

Ortiz and Berto fight for relevancy tonight on Fox

Image: Ortiz and Berto fight for relevancy tonight on FoxBy Jeff Aranow: It’s been ages since we’ve seen 147 pound fighters Andre Berto and Victor Berto battle each other in an exciting 12 round war back in 2011. The two fighters were among the best in the division at the time they fought. Now they’ll be doing it again tonight when Berto and Ortiz, both now no longer top names, will be fighting on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Berto vs. Ortiz has a start time of 8:00 p.m. ET. This fight isn’t the best fight on the card, however. There are some interesting undercard fights involving light heavyweight Edwin Rodriguez (28-1, 19 KOs) facing Thomas Williams Jr. (19-1, 13 KOs), and featherweight Fernando Montiel (54-5-2, 39 KOs) fighting Jorge Lara (27-0-2, 19 KOs).

Purses: Berto $750K, Ortiz $750K

1-Ortiz vs Berto 2 Press Conference - PBC on Fox - 4.28.16 _Presser_Ryan Hafey _ Premier Boxing ChampionsBy Dan Ambrose: Victor Ortiz (31-5-2, 24 KOs) and Andre Berto (30-4, 23 KOs) will both be getting well paid for their fight this Saturday night on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox. Ortiz and Berto will both be receiving purses of $750,000 despite neither of them being world champions.

The winner of the Berto vs. Ortiz fight could see a big jump up in pay if their manager sets them up for a title shot against WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia. That’s where it seems to be heading. Berto is ranked #3 with the World Boxing Council despite the fact that he was totally schooled by former WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. last September.

Berto-Ortiz, Montiel-Lara make weight

Image: Berto-Ortiz, Montiel-Lara make weight(Photo Credit: Suzanne Teresa/Premier Boxing Champions) By Dan Ambrose: Andre Berto (30-4, 23 KOs) and Victor Ortiz (31-5-2, 24 KOs) made weight on Friday for their non-title fight on Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Berto weighed in at 146.8lbs and Ortiz also weighed in at 146.8lbs. Ortiz looked very drained at the weigh-in.

That makes you wonder how much weight he’ll be putting back on overnight. Berto could be dealing with a super middleweight by the time he gets in the ring tomorrow night. Ortiz looks like he’s going to rehydrate well into the 160s. He’s been training hard obviously, but it’s possible that Ortiz has grown out of the welterweight division at the age of 29.
