Angulo: Lara is more talented than Canelo

003_Canelo(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Alfredo Angulo (22-3, 18 KO’s) has had a lot of opportunities to sit and watch the previous fights of former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KO’s) while getting ready for their fight this Saturday night in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Angulo has concluded that Canelo doesn’t have the same kind of talent that WBA interim junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara possesses.

Angulo lost to Lara by a 10th round TKO last year in June after their fight was halted in the 10th round. Angulo gave Lara a lot of problems in knocking him down twice in the fight. If not for Angulo suffering an eye injury, he’d have very likely won the fight.

Alvarez-Angulo: Will Canelo get back to his winning ways on Saturday?

YouTube video
By Allan Fox: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KO’s) will be trying to put the past behind him this Saturday night in facing Mexican slugger Alfredo Angulo (22-3, 18 KO’s) on Showtime pay-per-view from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Canelo sees this as a new beginning for him, as he’s going to be applying the lessons he learned from his last fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and he’ll be making his first PPV fight with him as the star headliner.

Things are set up perfectly for the 23-year-old Canelo too look great in this fight, as long as Angulo doesn’t spoil the party by beating him in front of a nationwide audience.

Canelo needs to stay busy in this fight, and not make the mistake of thinking he can mimic Floyd Mayweather Jr. like he did in his recent 12 round majority decision loss to Mayweather last September. Canelo is a good fighter when he’s using his strengths – power, pressure and inside fighting – but he’s less effective when he tries to box. With that said, Canelo will likely try and box Angulo on Saturday night instead of playing to what he does well by getting in the face of Angulo and beating him at his own game.

Alfredo Angulo ready to beat Canelo on Saturday

LAS VEGAS (March 4, 2014) – As hundreds of fans and media stood in lines that stretched from the sidewalk outside the main doors to the make-shift ring inside the lobby of MGM Grand in Las Vegas, popular Mexican boxing superstar and former World Champion Canelo Alvarez, his opponent this Saturday, Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo, and five-of-the-six other fighters who’ll compete on “TOE TO TOE: Canelo vs. Angulo,’’ made their official entry into the hotel Tuesday afternoon.

In what’s expected to be a slugfest in the main event this Saturday, March 8, on SHOWTIME PPV® (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT), Canelo (42-1-1, 30 KOs) will face the double-dangerous Angulo (22-3, 18 KOs) in the 12-round super welterweight main event.

Angulo’s Trainer: ”Floyd Gave Canelo An Education, This Man Can Give Him A Beating!”

002_Canelo_and_Angulo(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Rocky Esposito: Virgil Hunter is one of the best Boxing trainers in the world today. He is an extremely cerebral trainer who will always devise the best game plan/strategy possible for his fighter to execute and succeed with. If any one of the fighters in his stable faces an opponent who has bad tendencies, flaws or weaknesses, you can be certain that Hunter will know exactly what they are and how his fighter can effectively exploit them during a fight.

For the promotion of the ”Canelo vs Angulo” fight, Hunter was asked many questions about Canelo. During one of the Q & A sessions done by Showtime, one of Hunter’s responses really stood out to me. When Hunter was asked, ”What are some of Canelo’s weaknesses”? He answered, ”I believe he has stamina problems, and I believe he likes to takes rests. I am very aware of that and when he wants to rest we are not going to let him rest.

Angulo will need a KO to beat Canelo on Saturday, says Hunter

hunter666By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Virgil Hunter believes that his fighter Alfredo Angulo (22-3, 18 KO’s) is in a tough situation this Saturday in his fight against the highly popularly but very flawed Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KO’s). Hunter thinks it’s going to require a knockout for Angulo to get a win over Canelo, because the judges likely won’t give a decision to Angulo over a fighter that has the popularity and who brings a lot of fans to the sport.

It’s pretty clear that Angulo has to knock Canelo out to get a victory. All you need to do is look at the Canelo vs. Austin Trout fight and see how one judge had the scored 118-109 to know that Angulo won’t likely be getting a decision over Canelo on Saturday, even if he knocks him down 2-3 times. If Trout wasn’t given a decision over Canelo, then I can’t see Angulo getting a decision against him.

Angulo can knock Canelo out, says Khan

canelo6767By Dan Ambrose: Amir Khan worked on sparring with Alfredo Angulo (22-3, 18 KO’s) for weeks in Oakland, California to get him ready for his match-up against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KO’s) this Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Khan learned a lot from Angulo, and enough to know that he has the potential to knock the red-headed Canelo out if he lands with a good shots. Khan thinks Canelo won’t be fighting Angulo in a toe-to-toe fashion on Saturday night, but rather in more of a boxing match in order to take advantage of his skills and quickness.

“You can be sure that he’ll force Canelo to work every minute of every round,” Khan said. “Sharing the ring with hi I know what he’s bringing to this fight and believe me it won’t be an easy night for Canelo.”

Alvarez vs. Angulo: Can the underdog bite off the cinnamon?

canelo76By Gerardo Granados: After his disappointing performance against the pound for pound best boxer and future hall of fame member Floyd Mayweather Jr. last September, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KO’s) has selected Alfredo “Perro” Angulo (22-3, 18 KO’s) as his opponent to face this Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The betting odds show Canelo as a huge favorite to win, but when a fighter has one punch KO power like Angulo does things might become more interesting to watch.

In his last fight in June of 2013, Angulo gave hell to the newly crowned interim WBA light middleweight belt holder Erislandy Lara in a grueling fight, but ultimately Angulo fell short of success with the fight being halted in the 10th round due to Angulo suffering an eye injury.

Schaefer thinks Angulo can become the new Canelo in Mexico if he beats him

angulo37By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is trying to stay on the fence for this Saturday’s Showtime pay-per-view bout between former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KO’s) and Alfredo Angulo (22-3, 18 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in las Vegas, Nevada. Schaefer promotes both fighters, but he probably realizes that it might not be a good thing for him to side with the red-headed Canelo in this fight in case Angulo pulls off a mini upset and beats him on Saturday.

It wouldn’t be a huge upset, because we’ve already seen Canelo go life and death with Austin Trout last year, and almost get knocked out by little Jose Miguel Cotto in the past. Angulo hits a lot harder than both of those guys, so it’s highly possible that he could win on Saturday night, especially if he gets Canelo into the deeper rounds of the fight where his stamina problems may surface.

Canelo faces Angulo this Saturday on Showtime PPV

canelo3By Dan Ambrose: This Saturday boxing fans are going to get the chance to find out if the red-haired former WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1-, 30 KO’s) is for real or just a pretender built up by Golden Boy Promotions when Canelo faces Alfredo Angulo (22-3, 18 KO’s) on Showtime pay-per-view in a 12 round bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fact that Canelo is asking boxing fans to pay to see him fight with him coming off of a one-sided loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. from last September is one of the oddest things that you’ll ever see.

It makes zero sense for Canelo to suddenly have fans having to pay to see him on PPV after a one-sided loss like the one he suffered against Mayweather. And what makes even less sense is for Canelo to pick Angulo for his first fight on PPV. That’s a senseless move, and you have to wonder whether Golden Boy Promotions tried to talk some sense into the head of the flat-footed Canelo or if they thought it was a great idea.
