Oscar De La Hoya Blocks Ryan Garcia vs Jake Paul, Says “It’s Business”

Promoter Oscar De La Hoya ruled out Ryan Garcia stepping in to face Jake Paul as the replacement opponent for his November 14th exhibition match on Netflix in Miami, Florida. De La Hoya says that Ryan (24-2, 20 KOs) is under contract with DAZN and Golden Boy Promotions. He states that it’s “business.”

Ryan hasn’t commented about whether he’s interested in stepping in to face Jake. His name was mentioned among several others as a possible replacement opponent for Jake to fight on November 14th.

De La Hoya Draws the Line

“I received calls from reporters about Ryan Garcia vs. Jake Paul. Let me tell you why this fight isn’t happening. Ryan Garcia fights on DAZN, and Jake Paul fights on Netflix,” said promoter Oscar De La Hoya to Fight Hub TV, ruling out Ryan Garcia being the substitute to face Jake Paul on November 14th.

Jake Paul’s originally scheduled fight against Gervonta Davis is in jeopardy due to the allegations from Tank’s ex-girlfriend of domestic violence. If he’s replaced, the lucky fighter that steps in to face Jake could receive a massive payday.

“That’s pretty much the bottom line. Golden Boy has a contract with DAZN. Ryan Garcia has a contract with Golden Boy, and that’s just the way it is,” said De La Hoya. “This is business. Ryan Garcia is probably going to go on a rant, saying, ‘Oh, you’re keeping me from making money.’ No.”

Oscar looked annoyed today, talking about Ryan not being allowed to face Jake. Garcia wasn’t pushing for the fight himself. His name was mentioned by others. Obviously, he would likely be pleased to step to receive the huge purse that Tank Davis was expected to receive of $40 million. That would be a career-high payday for Garcia.

Legal Walls Between Platforms

“You have to go by the law, by the rules. You have a contract with DAZN. You have a contract with Golden Boy. It doesn’t happen that way. Again, Ryan Garcia’s next fight will be announced by me, who he’s fighting, and when he’s fighting next,” said De La Hoya.
