Adrien Broner previews Spence vs. Crawford, predicts “war”

By Chris Williams: Adrien Broner says Terence Crawford can forget all about trying to box Errol Spence on July 29th because that’s not going to happen. Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) is going to draw Crawford into war whether he wants it to be that or not, says AB.

Broner says that WBO welterweight champion Crawford (39-0, 30 KOs) is going to have to FIGHT if he wants to win this contest because he’s not going to run around jabbing, thinking he’ll get a decision fighting a safety-fist battle.

Crawford looked kind of slow in his last fight against David Avanesyan, and his work rate was lower than it had been in the past. Obviously, that’s age starting to show, as Crawford is nearing 36, and he’s only had three fights since 2020.

Inactivity affects fighters that rely on their speed, reflexes, and counter-punching to win fights more than it does for brawlers. Once the speed & reflexes go, it’s game over.

IBF, WBA & WBC 147-lb champion Spence is going to walk Crawford down like he did against Yordenis Ugas and Shawn Porter and slowly brutalize him with heavy shots one after another.

Crawford has never been hit a lot in his fights, and I don’t know how he’ll react to getting pounded on by Spence for twelve rounds.

All the switch-hitting junk that Crawford does won’t make a difference in this fight against the southpaw Spence. Crawford would be better off staying southpaw and not wasting energy switching back & forth all night, hoping Spence will become confused.

Crawford will have to fight

“I know Terence very well. I know them both very well, but of course
I’m with my brother Errol,” said Adrien Broner to Fighthype about the Errol Spence Jr vs. Terence Crawford fight.

“His feet is better than what people think. He’s more accurate than what people think, and he knows how to land his shots. His timing is good he’s good.

“Nah, it’s more than that. I had wars with Errol’s a**. It’s a lot.  You
really wouldn’t understand. You’re not a fighter, but Terence is going to find out. It’s going come a time when they fight. Terence is going to going to know and going to see that he’s going to have to fight Errol.

“It’s not going to be no time for boxing and trying to get out the way. He’s going to have to fight.  You’re going to have to fight. it’s going to be a war. I see it being a war, and I can’t wait until it happens. I’m a fan of both, but I’m closer to Errol.

“I’m taking Errol to win for sure. Nah, because Errol’s defense is better
than what people think,” said Broner when asked why won’t Crawford’s counter-punching give Spence problems.

“His defense is better than what people think. He’s faster than what people think. He’s strong as f**k.  His feet is better than what people think. Everybody thinks he just some ‘come get him, knock him down type guy.’ Nah, he can fight.

He’s part of my top five for sure. Yeah, I’m going to be fighting the top 140s. That’s where I’m more comfortable. That’s where I’ll be performing. At 140 lbs,” said Broner.

Adrien, 34, is making a comeback this month on June 9th against Bill Hutchinson at the Casino Miami Jai Alai, Miami. Broner hasn’t fought since 2021, and who knows what he has left in the tank after his latest spell of inactivity.

AB cut his beard off, lost a lot of weight, and looks years younger. However, it remains to be seen if Broner can turn back the clocks to become the fighter he was back in 2011 and 2012.

If Broner can find a way to lose enough weight to fight at super featherweight while retaining his power, he’d be a threat.
