Teofimo Lopez sounding crazy, wants to “kill Josh Taylor”

By Dan Ambrose: Teofimo Lopez talking crazy, saying he wants to “kill” Josh Taylor when he challenges him for his WBO light welterweight title on June 10th.

In an interview today, the former unified lightweight champion Teofimo (18-1, 13 KOs) sounded unhinged, talking about needing to”kill” Taylor (19-0, 13 KOs) inside the ring next month so that he can put “fear” in the minds of his future opponents.

If Teofimo hopes to scare the former undisputed 140-lb champion Taylor enough to where he won’t try to win on June 10th, he could be wasting his time. If the idea is for Teofimo to frighten Taylor, it sounds useless.

Some boxing fans believe that the punishment that Teofimo took to the head in his fight against Vasyl Lomachenko did something to his head, leaving him dizzy and confused and no longer showing the form he had inside the ring before that fight. Did Lomachenko knock the sense of Teofimo?

If that theory is correct, that might explain why a ham & egger like Georgee Kambosos Jr was able to soundly defeat Teofimo after his fight with Lomachenko.

“I said it like it is. I want to kill Josh Taylor. What the f**k does that mean? Well, let’s get back to boxing. That is boxing. You’re probably going to lose your life. What does that mean? This is what we sign up for,” said Teofimo Lopez to Punsh Drunk Boxing about his next fight on June 10th against WBO champion Josh Taylor.

“If I’m going to die in the ring, I went out like a champ. Boxing today is the gladiator days.”

If your Top Rank, you got to have deep concerns about how unbalanced Teofimo sounds. He looked terrible in his last fight against Sandor Martin last December. If not for the bizarre scoring from the judges, Teofimo would have suffered his second loss.

Taylor will be defending against Teofimo on ESPN+ at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden, New York City.

Taylor-Lopez will be taking place in the 4,000-seat venue, which some boxing fans see as a sign that Teofimo’s popularity has dropped since his loss to George Kambosos Jr and his subsequent poor performances against Sandor Martin and Pedro Campa.

“When I fought Loma, I took his heart, especially in the 12th round, when I said, ‘Come on,’ and he pulled back. Taylor ain’t got no heart? So what can I take from this man? His life. And the only way I’m going to make a statement is by doing that, and I’m not sorry about that. How do I put fear in people’s eyes? Take a man’s life. I don’t care. This is the sport I’m in,” said Teofimo.
