By Jim Calfa: Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis has been given a 90-day home detention + 200 hours of community service for his November 5th, 2020, hit & run offense in Baltimore. He was also given three years of probation. Gervonta pleaded guilty today to four traffic offenses.

There’s no word yet on what Tank will be expected to do as part of his 200 hours of community service. It can be almost anything, such as working at a homeless shelter or volunteering at a school. It’s endless.

Tank is getting off easy with the home detention because he could have gotten jail time if the judge had chosen to be strict with her sentence. It’s unclear how much jail time Tank could have gotten for this offense, but it could have been lengthy.

Some boxing fans on social media believe that if Davis weren’t a rich superstar, he would have gotten jail time for his hit & run. He’s coming off a massive pay-per-view fight on April 22nd against Ryan Garcia, shown on DAZN & PPV.

Tank stopped Ryan in the seventh round and received much attention from the fight.

The Baltimore judge Althea M. Handy scolded Tank for failing to apologize to one of the victims of the crash, Jyair Smith, saying, “Three words: ‘I am sorry. And he was not man enough to do that. He’s shown absolutely no remorse.”

In addition to the hit & run issue in 2020, Tank has another legal problem that he must deal with stemming from a battery charge from December 27th, in which he reportedly slapped a woman at his home. The woman is expected not to testify against Tank. Still, Tank will need to appear on May 26th at Broward County Clerk in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

“A judge sentenced Baltimore boxing champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis to 90 days of home detention in Baltimore plus three years’ probation for a hit-and-run that injured four people — including a pregnant woman — in 2020,” said Dylan Segelbaum to the Baltimore Banner.

“Davis will serve his home detention at the house of his longtime coach and trainer, Calvin Ford. He must complete 200 hours of community service and take part in other programs.'”

It should be interesting to see if Tank Davis can stay out of trouble for the rest of his pro career. You’d hate to see him spending time in jail and having his career cut short.
