George Kambosos Jr wants Gervonta, Shakur, Ryan & Teofimo

By Sean Jones: Former unified lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr is taking a shotgun approach to get a big name after his July fight against Maxi Hughes.

Assuming he wins his fight against Hughes (26-5-2, 5 KOs), Kambosos Jr (20-2, 10 KOs) wants one of these names: Gervonta Davis, Shakur Stevenson, Ryan Garcia, or Teofimo Lopez.  Shakur already tried to get a fight against Kambosos but came up empty-handed.

Considering how bad Kambosos looked in losing his last two bouts against Devin Haney, he’s going to have to do more than beat Hughes for him to get one of the above names.

Kambosos’ star has fallen from those defeats, and he’s probably going to need to beat a solid contender to get a fight against Tank, Shakur, Ryan, or Teofimo.

Beating one or two of these guys should improve Kambosos’ chances of landing a big name:

  • Frank Martin
  • William Zepeda
  • Isaac Cruz
  • Vasily Lomachenko
  • Jamaine Ortiz
  • Floyd Schofield
  • Keyshawn Davis
  • Edwin De Los Santos
  • Gustavo Lemos

“Me and Tank, that’s a fight I’d love to have. Obviously, my full focus is on Maxi Hughes, but a lot of people fear Tank,” said George Kambosos Jr to Fighthype. “He’s a hell of a fighter, a beautiful puncher, but I’ve been hit with some big punches in my career.

“I was going back and forth with someone on Twitter about this, saying, ‘Tank would have been the A-side, even if Kambosos had all the belts.’ It would have never happened because I always said I’m going back to Australia. I’m going to take a big fight there.

“I know Tank is a big star. I get it. In this situation, of course, he’s going to be the A-side if we ever do get it on in this present time. It’s definitely a fight I would love to have, and as I said, I don’t fear no man.

“I got business to handle in July [against Maxi Hughes], and when I handle that business, bring them all on. They say, ‘You don’t want to take a fight with Shakur.’ He knows the truth. I fought against the best of the best all within a year.

“I’ve made enough money in this sport, won enough belts to be able to fight when I want to fight. So that’s definitely a fight that I’m looking forward to in the future.

“Definitely, I want to fight the best of the best. Gervonta Davis, Shakur, and even Ryan Garcia coming off a loss, Lomachenko. Even [Teofimo] Lopez at 140. We can definitely do something,” said Kambosos Jr.
