Shakur Stevenson ready to fight “crazy-talking” Devin Haney next

By Allan Fox: Shakur Stevenson says he’s ready to fight the “crazy” talking Devin Haney after hearing that he said he’s purposefully staying at 135 so he can fight him.

It’s hard to believe Haney (29-0, 15 KOs) is serious about facing Shakur because he and his father/trainer Bill have talked about wanting to fight Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Ryan Garcia.

That would appear to be why Haney is talking about staying at 135 after his defense against Vasily Lomachenko on May 20th.

Haney looked like death warmed over last October in making weight for his rematch with George Kambosos Jr. With the trouble that Haney, a 160-pounder, has to do for him to artificially stay at 135, he’s not going to do it for a fight that won’t be massive.

Shakur (20-0, 10 KOs) wants to set up the clash against undisputed lightweight champion Haney in his next fight after his sixth-round TKO victory over Shuichiro Yoshino (16-1, 12 KOs) last Saturday night in a WBC lightweight title eliminator at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Stevenson calls “crazy” talking Haney’s bluff

“He’d probably do better against somebody else, but he was going against the best in boxing tonight, so you can’t blame him for who he is and for who he was fighting tonight,” said Shakur Stevenson to the media about his win over Shuichiro Yoshino last Saturday night.

“I was looking at it from the standpoint of I didn’t know which direction I was going to go in, but if Devin starts talking crazy, as I heard he was talking crazy, saying he’s staying at 135 for me,” said Shakur about Devin Haney.

“So let’s do it. Let’s make the fight happen. I’m ready. We can fight in Vegas; we can fight in New York. Wherever he wants to fight, I’m ready,” said Stevenson.

If your Shakur, he shouldn’t get his hopes up about fighting Haney because the chances of that fight happening are slim.

“Maybe on another night, he might do a little bit better, but he went against me tonight,” Shakur about Yoshino. “I was going to sleep him.

“I was looking for the right shot, and it was going to come. He couldn’t get out of the way of none of those shots. If he wasn’t going to sleep, he was going down,” said Stevenson about the game but easy to hit Yoshino.
