“He can take the money” – Tank Davis on purse bet with Ryan Garcia

By Allan Fox: Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis says he’s NOT going to push Ryan Garcia to give up his purse from their winner takes all’ bet before their fight last Saturday night.

That’s a class move by Tank Davis because he could have pushed it to the limit and embarrassed Ryan by telling the fans that he failed to honor his bet.

Tank (29-0, 27 KOs) says Ryan can keep his purse. He won’t pressure him to give up his money, even though he lost the fight by a seventh round knockout at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Ryan (23-1, 19 KOs) had repeatedly told the media this week that he was a man of his word and would surrender his purse to Gervonta if he lost the fight.

However, after the contest, Ryan didn’t utter a peep at the post-fight press conference about giving his money for the fight to Tank, indicating that he would keep his purse.

Nah, he can keep the money. He can take the money; he can take it,” said Tank Davis about his purse bet with Ryan Garcia before the fight.

In the future, fighters must stop doing these silly winner takes all purse bets because it’s been done too many times, and fans see through these empty stunts.

If the fighters can’t come up with fresh ideas to drum up interest for their bouts, they need to hire a quality PR team to assist them.

Mikey Garcia wants Tank-Haney & Ryan-Lomachenko

“I thought it was a very good fight. I thought it was a lot closer than a lot of people had it,” said Mikey Garcia to Fight Hub TV about his thoughts on the Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia contest.

“Ryan was fighting really well and got caught with a good left hand to the body. That was the deciding factor. Tank has always shown that he is very well and equipped with skills, and he’s strong. I’m assuming that punch was a factor.

“He got dropped earlier [in round two], but Ryan was fighting really well. He came back and was fighting very well. I think it was a good fight, and I think the fans were really excited as well.

“If I’m the matchmaker, I’d like to see Tank fight Haney or Loma. The winner of that fight. Preferably, Haney. Haney is the best fighter right now [at 135]. I got Haney in the Loma fight. It’s a good fight, but I think Haney takes it. So then I’d like to see Tank take on Haney.

“Ryan still has a bright future ahead of him. Fight the other guys there. Maybe even a fight with Loma. If Loma loses, that’s a good fight for him. Pitbull or any of these guys. So he’s got a bright future. He’s young; this is nothing.”
