By Ken Hissner: At the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Tulsa, OK, Saturday over ESPN+ Bob Arum (Top Rank) presented in the Main Event 2-time Olympic Gold Medalist, IBF USBA and WBO Global Featherweight champion and No. 2 ranked Robeisy Ramirez defeated former WBO Super Bantamweight champion and No. 1 ranked Isaac “Royal Storm” Dogboe for the vacant WBO Featherweight title.
In the Main Event 2-Time Olympic Gold Medalist, IBF USBA and WBO Global Feather champ southpaw Robeisy Ramirez, 12-1 (7), #125.6, of Cuba and Gulfport, FL, defeated former WBO Super Bantam champ Isaac “Royal Storm” Dogboe, 24-3 (15), #124.6, of Accra, GH and Temple Hills, MD, 12 rounds for the vacant WBO World Feather title.
In the first round Ramirez used left uppercuts to the body of Dogboe who fought on spurts. In the second round midway point Ramirez landed a 4-punch combination having Dogboe hurt and grabbing him into a clinch. He managed to fight back in the final minute. In the third round Ramirez out landed Dogboe until the final seconds when Dogboe landed the final punches.
In the fourth round Dogboe started fast landing rights while Ramirez in the second half of the round used his left uppercuts. In the fifth round Dogboe pressed Ramirez who countered well in a close round. In the sixth round Dogboe again starts off fast before Ramirez takes over.
In the seventh round Dogboe did well enough to take the round out landing Ramirez. In the eighth round Dogbe throws more but lands less. In the ninth round Ramirez had his best round landing with accuracy countering Dogboe almost at will.
In the tenth round Ramirez positions himself to outland Dogboe who is trying but not with accuracy of Ramirez. In the eleventh round Dogboe had a better round having a slight edge. In the twelfth and final round early a left glancing uppercut from Ramirez on the chin of Dogboe and down he went of an 8-count from Referee Gary Ritter. He tried to erase it but couldn’t as Ramirez showed all the skills of a champion to the bell.
Scores were 117-110, 118-109 and 119-108 with 117-110 from this writer.
In the co-feature Feather Joet Gonzalez, 26-3 (15), #126.2, of L.A., CA, defeated Enrique “El Ejecutor” Vivas, 22-3 (11), #126.2, of MEX and Montebello, CA, over 10 rounds in a war!
In the first round both went to the body for the entire round with little to choose between them but Vivas having an edge. In the second and third rounds the action continued with Gonzales out scoring Vivas.
In the fourth round with his back to the ropes Gonzalez out landed Vivas for the most part. In the fifth round Vivas kept up the pace keeping Gonzalez against the ropes.
In the sixth round Vivas lost his mouthpiece for the second time. Gonzalez takes a close round of action. In the seventh round Vivas came back to take the round keeping Gonzalez against the ropes countering with uppercuts.
In the eighth and ninth rounds the non-stop action kept going with Gonzalez taking a close round with the right side of the face of Vivas swelling badly. In the tenth and final round Gonzalez continued landing more punches than a game Vivas. Referee was Mark Nelson.
Scores were 99-91, 98-92 twice with 97-93 this writer.
Welter Jahi Tucker, 10-0 (5), #151.8, of Brooklyn and Deer Park, NY, defeated Nikoloz “The Experiment” Sekhniashvili, 8-2 (6), #150.2, of Gori, GEO, over 8 solid rounds.
In the first round Sekhniashvili hurt Tucker and controlled up until the final thirty seconds when Tucker came back. In the second round Tucker had his way for the most part with pin point accuracy. In the third round Tucker continued having his way. In the fourth round Tucker lost a point for hitting on the break from Referee Gerald Ritter.
In the fifth round Tucker had a big round until warned by Referee Ritter for hitting on break. In the sixth round Tucker cut the left eyebrow of Sekhniashvili with a left hook. In the seventh round Tucker picked Sekhniashvili apart. In the eighth and final round Tucker continued out boxing Sekhniashvili.
Scores were all 77-74 as was this writers.
Olympian Super Light Delante “El Tigre” Johnson, 8-0 (5), #142.8, of Cleveland, OH, defeated Alfonso Olvera, 12-8-3 (4), #142.8, of Tucson, AZ, over 8 solid rounds.
In the first round Johnson controlled until a minute remaining and got hit by an overhand right on the chin from Olvera rocking him. In the second round Olvera again had an edge backing up Johnson. In the third through the fifth rounds Johnson came back well with his jab keeping Olvera at the end of it for each round.
A minute into the sixth round a right from Johnson on the chin of Olvera put him into a squat almost down. Johnson controlled with his jab the rest of the way as Olvera kept throwing wide rights. In the seventh round Johnson continued keeping the jab in the face as Olvera kept coming forward. In the eighth and final round Johnson took his sixth straight round after a slow start. Referee was Mark Nelson.
Scores were all 80-72 with 78-74 by this writer.
Super Light Rohan “Lightning fast” Polanco, 9-0 (5), #142.4, of Santo Domingo, DR, pitched a shutout over Ricardo “Conejo” Quiroz, 12-2 (6), #142.6, of Oxnard, CA, over 6 rounds.
In the first three rounds Polanco kept the pressure on Quiroz taking all three rounds. In the fifth round Polanco used solid body work driving Quiroz all over the round. In the sixth and final rounds ending first minute Quiroz landed a combination that brought blood from the mouth of Polanco. Polanco tried his best to get a knockout with no success. Referee Gerald Ritter.
Scores were 60-54 by all judges and this writer.
Heavy Jeremiah ‘DreamLand’ Milton, 9-0 (6), #255.8, of Las Vegas, NV, defeated Fabio Caipira de Aco” Maldonado, 29-7 (28), #215.8, of Sorocaba, Sao Pauo, BRZ, over 8 rounds.
In the first two rounds Milton dominated with his jab against 43 year-old Maldonado. In the third round Maldonado came in with his head clashing with Milton’s causing a small cut on the right eyebrow of Milton. In the fourth round Milton continued to control the fight as Maldonado tries his MMA tactics.
In the sixth round Referee Gerald Ritter took a point from Maldonado for using his head. In the seventh round there was more holding than fighting as Maldonado is in survival mode. In the eighth and final round again Maldonado lost a point this time for holding. Milton tried but couldn’t stop Maldonado.
Scores were 78-72 and 80-72 twice as was this writers.
Light southpaw Abdullah Mason, 7-0 (6), #135.2, of Cleveland, OH, stopped Erik “Aidahoe” Garcia Benitez, 4-4 (1), #135.4, of Guadalajara, Jalisco, MEX, at 1:32 of the first round of a 6.
In the first rounds midway point Benitez was throwing a wide right when he was countered by a right cross from southpaw Mason and down went Benitez for an 8-count by Referee Mark Nelson who waved it off.
Light Heavy Dante Benjamin, Jr., 6-0 (4), #175, of Cleveland, OH, stopped Jaspar McCargo, 4-4-2 (2), #177.4, of Richmond, CA, at 2:58 of the second round of a 6.
In the first round a right uppercut from Benjamin and down went McCargo for an 8-count from Referee Gerald Ritter. In the second round Benjamin scores four knockdowns before Referee Ritter finally stopped it.
Light Emiliano Fernando Vargas, 4-0 (3), #133, of Las Vegas, NV, stopped Edgar Uvalle, 2-4-2 (2), #132.2, of Des Moines, IA, at 1:21 of round two of a 4.
In the first rounds halfway point Vargas landed a left hook to the chin almost dropping Uvalle who did his best fighting back. Vargas the son of former world champion Fernando Vargas who is in his corner tried for a knockout up to the bell. In the second round Vargas landed a four punch combination after a warning of a low blow from Referee Gary Ritter dropping Uvalle on his knees for the full count.
