By Craig Daly: Trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre reports that Terence Crawford is working on two fights this year against Errol Spence Jr and Alexis Rocha, and he has his “fingers crossed” that both of them will happen.

BoMac is confident that Crawford (39-0, 30 KOs) will win both fights, and hopefully, they’ll take place. Either way, the soon-to-be 36-year-old Crawford will fight twice in 2023.

For Crawford’s sake, he needs to get the Spence fight made before he ages out because he’s getting a little long in the tooth and he might run out of time before that match-up can be made.

Crawford is coming off a sixth round knockout of David Avanesyan last December in the sixth successful defense of his WBO welterweight title that he captured in 2018.

Unfortunately for the Omaha, Nebraska native Crawford, his opposition has been pedestrian-level, and he’s failed to come close to getting the fights that he needed to take his career to the next level.

When Crawford had the opportunity to fight Spence last year, he walked out of the negotiations when he got an offer from BLK Prime to face fringe contender Avanesyan last December.

“Hopefully, June or July, Terence [Crawford] is coming back,” said Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre to Fighthype about when WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford will be fighting next. “No, we’re still working on it.

“Right now, we’re working with two or three different camps, trying to make the fight happen,” said BoMac when asked if Crawford is negotiating with IBF, WBA & WBC 147-lb champion Errol Spence Jr to try and put together an undisputed welterweight clash next.

“It looks really good. The odds are real good,” said BoMac when asked what the percentage of a Spence vs. Crawford fight happening this year.

“Even with the [Alexis] Rocha fight, that’s really good too. Either one of them is going to get their a** whipped. It doesn’t matter. It’s a good sparring match. He’s comfortable dominating his a**,” BoMac said about WBO mandatory Rocha being a good fight Crawford to win.

“You still got to be in shape for those guys. Those guys come in shape, and they try their best to get that win. You definitely got to be in shape.

“Errol is known for just going and taking hard fights. I’m expecting him to be ready,” said BoMac about Spence having been inactive for the past 11 months since his win over Yordenis Ugas last year in April.

“[Trainer] Derrick James does a good job over there, him and his team. So be it. Whatever he brings to the table, we’re going to be ready for it.

“I’m hoping for two more times this year,” said BoMac when asked how many times Crawford will fight this year. “We’ve got our fingers crossed,” said BoMac on whether the Spence fight happening.

“I think that’s what a conversation that came up with those guys. We’ll just keep our fingers crossed,” about Crawford fighting Vergil Ortiz Jr and Alexis Rocha with Golden Boy this year.
