Gervonta Davis & Rolly Romero meet for first time since Tank KO’d him
By Brian Webber: Gervonta Davis and Rolando Romero met today outside the Mayweather Boxing Gym in Las Vegas, reuniting for the first time since Tank (28-0, 26 KOs) knocked out Rolly in the sixth round last year in May 2022.
In a show of good sportsmanship, Tank and Rolly (14-1, 12 KOs) shook hands, showing no hard feelings between them. Rolly had a lot of stuff in the build-up to that fight, and he’s frequently taken verbal shots at Tank since the defeat.
Rolly, 28, has been pushing for a rematch with Tank, but it doesn’t make sense, given how the fight ended, as well as the lack of activity.
In the nine months since the loss to Tank, Rolly has chilled, choosing not to fight, seemingly enjoying the millions that he made. In contrast, Tank has already returned to work, stopping Hector Garcia in the ninth round last January.
It would seem that the two fighters are going in different directions. Rolly heading toward career oblivion and resigned to being more of a Youtube & social media personality than for his fights. Rolly will be an opponent for top fighters for a while, but once he takes too many losses, he’ll be forgotten.
With Tank Davis, he’s on the verge of making a warehouse full of money against Ryan Garcia on April 15th, and from there, he’ll likely take on the other big dogs at 135.
Boxing fans are still anxiously waiting for the official announcement of the Tank Davis vs. Ryan Garcia fight. According to Oscar De La Hoya, the fight will be announced this week.
“We’ve seen Tank more closer to his level of opposition than we have of Ryan, and I think that in this fight here, we’re going to see how much punch resistance these guys got, and we’re going to see how fast they truly are,” said Shawn Porter on his Youtube channel about Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis vs. Ryan Garcia fight.
“I’ve said this about Ryan Garcia, and we’ve seen him posting a lot of videos of him hitting bags, and there’s no knock on his speed. He calls himself ‘Flash’ at one point. I do believe he’s that fast, but against your level, now we’ll find out how truly fast you are,” said Porter.
“It’s the next greatest fight of our era because it’s two fights between two powerful boxers, and it’ll be very interesting,” said Vasyl Lomachenko to ESNEWS.
