By Ken Hissner: At Madison Square Garden Theater, New York, Saturday over DAZN Eddie Hearn (Matchroom Boxing) and Jake Paul (Most Valuable Promotions) presented i the Main Event IBF, IBO, WBC and WBO Featherweight champion Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano wnon in a bloody fight over WBA World Featherweight champion Erika Cruz in a unified world title fight.
In the co-feature WBC, WBO, IBO, WBA and IBF Super Feather champ Alycia “The Bomb” Baumgardner defended her titles defeating EBU and former WBC Interim champ Elhem “The Diamond” Mekhaled.
In the Main Event IBF, IBO, WBC and WBO Feather champ Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano, 43-2-1 (30), #125.4, of PR and Brooklyn, NY, WBA Feather champ Erika Cruz, 15-1 (3), #125.4, of Mexico City, MEX, 10×2 rounds.
In the first two rounds there was no feeling out as both were throwing the entire two rounds. In the third round a clash of heads caused a cut on the forehead of Cruz with blood flowing down her face. In the fourth round both were landing bombs and the cut started flowing down the face of Cruz again who throws nothing but bombs while Serrano boxes and throws hard punches.
In the fifth round Serrano was putting her punches together having a good round in a slugfest. In the sixth rounds midway point Serrano rocked Cruz with a pair of left hooks on the chin having her in n though Cruz never stopped throwing punches.
In the seventh round Serrano was cut on the forehead by a left from Cruz with both bumping heads with punches flying. In the eighth round Serrano had an edge with blood flowing from the cut of Cruz.
In the ninth round Serrano continues to outland Cruz who shows plenty of heart despite the blood flowing down her face and still throwing punches. In the tenth and final round the war continued with both throwing punches to the bell. Referee was Ricky Gonzalez.
Scores were 98-92 twice and 97-93 as did this writer.
2016 Olympian and IBF North American Super Light champ Richardsoon Hitchens, 16-0 (7), #139.6, of Brooklyn, NY, scored several knockdowns in defeating John “El Terrible” Bauza, 17-1 (7), #139, of PR and North Bergen, NJ, over 10 rounds for the vacant WBC US Super Light championship.
In the first round what was scored a knockdown by Referee Charlie Fitch was Hitchens stepping on the foot of Bauza. In the second round Bauza had swelling outside the left eye from solid rights from Hitchens. In the fourth round a solid right from Hitchens on the chin dropped Bauza for an 8-count from referee Fitch. In the sixth round Hitchens kept a jab on the swelling outside of the right eye of Bauza.
In the seventh and eighth rounds Hitchens used an effective jab and occasional rights out landing Bauza whose right eye is near closing. In the ninth round Hitchens continued beating on Bauza who tries to land a lucky punch. The ring doctor checked Bauza after the round. In the tenth and final round Bauza did all he could do showing heart in order to go the distance as Hitchens ended the fight winning another round.
Scores were 100-88 by all judges and this writer.
IBF, IBO, WBC and WBO Super Feather champ Alycia “The Bomb” Baumgardner, 14-1 (7), #129, of Detroit, MI, scored a pair of knockdowns to defeat EBU and former WBC Interim champ Elhem “The Diamond” Mekhaled, 15-2 (3), #129, of Paris, FR, 10×2 rounds, for the vacant WBA Super Feather title.
In the second round Mekhaled landed several rights to the chin of Baumgardner who mostly used her jab. In the third round Baumgardner dropped Mekhaled with a right on the chin for an 8-count from Referee Eric Dali. Shortly later another right from Baumgardner dropped Mekhaled for an 8-count and barely made it to the bell. In the fourth Baumgardner seemed to take the round off not following up on a big previous round. In the fifth and sixth rounds Mekhaled made a fight of it. In the seventh round Baumgardner hurt Mekhaled with a right midway but couldn’t follow up.
In the eighth round Mekhaled rallied to take the round. In the ninth round Mekhaled kept up the pace as Baumgardner seemed to be tiring. In the tenth and final round both let it all hang out in the best round of the fight.
Scores were 99-89 twice and 98-90 as did this writer.
2020 Olympian and Australian Feather champ southpaw Skye Nicolson, 6-0 (1), #125.6, of Queensland, AUST, defeated Tania “La Violencia” Alvarez, 7-1 (1), #124.8, of Barcelona, SP, over 10×2 rounds, for the vacant WBC Silver Feather title.
In the first three rounds Alvarez just walked right in with not throwing many punches while Nicolson easily countered her with jabs her every round. In the fifth round Nicolson started landing solid punches to the face drawing blood from her nose. From the sixth through the eighth the style of Alvarez is not pleasing to the crowd but never starts coming forward walking into Nicolson’s punches.
In the ninth round Alvarez had her first good round never stopping coming forward and landing more punches than Nicolson. In the tenth and final round both boxers were showing some exhaustion with more holding than punching Referee Sparkle Lee had her work cut out for her in one ugly fight thanks to the style of Alvarez.
Scores were 100-90, 98-92 and 97-93 with 98-92 this writer.
2020 Olympian Flyweight Yankiel “El Doctorcito” Rivera, 3-0 (2), #112 ½, of Toa Alta, PR, defeated Fernando “Leoncito” Diaz, 11-3-1 (3), of Riverside, CA, over 8 rounds.
In the second round Rivera easily out boxed Diaz and almost dropping him with a right hook to the chin a minute into the round. In the third round Diaz came back well in a close round. In the fourth round Rivera hurt Diaz midway with a left to the body.
In the seventh round Rivera rocked Diaz with a right hook to the chin and taking the round. In the eighth and final round Rivera had too much speed a foot and hand for Diaz who tried but failed to hurt Rivera needing a knockout. Referee was Danny Schiavone.
Scores were 79-73 and 78-74 twice same as this writer.
WBC Silver Super Middle champ Shadasia “The Sweet Terminator” Green, 12-0 (11), #167 ¼, of Paterson, NJ, stopped former WBA and IBF world champ Elin Cederroos, 8-2 (4), #167 ½, of Vasteraas, SW, at 1: 08 of the sixth rounds of a scheduled 10×2 rounds, for a WBC and WBA title eliminator.
For the first two rounds Green had caused a cut on the right eyebrow of Cederroos. In the third round an overhand right from Green dropped Cederroos for an 8-count from Referee Danny Schiavone halfway through the round. In the fourth round Cederroos came back well to edge out the round.
In the fifth round both were landing well with Green taking it. In the sixth round Green bloodied the nose of Cederroos and had her against the ropes when the referee called a halt.
Super Bantam Ramla Ali, 8-0 (2), #121 ½, of Somalia and Greenwich, London, UK, defeated Avril Mathie, 8-1-1 (3), #121 ½, of Sydney, New South Wales, AUST, over 10×2 rounds for the vacant WBC Silver Feather title.
In the first round Mathie started to have swelling over her right eye early in the round from Ali combinations. In the second and third rounds it was more competitive with Ali having an edge. In the fourth round Referee Charlie Fitch finally warned Ali for rough tactics using her elbow. Good round for Mathie causing swelling outside of the left eye of Ali. In the sixth round Ali came back well landing lead rights to the chin of Mathie. The seventh and eighth were too close to call.
In the ninth rounds final seconds Mathie landed a solid right on the chin of Ali who returned a right of her own. In the tenth and final round referee Fitch allowed Ali to push down on Mathie who came in low getting hit on the back for most of the fight. Both boxers were marked up from the battle.
Scores were all 99-91 with this writer 97-93.
In opening bout Super Light Aaron “The Alien King” Aponte, 7-0-1 (2), #138 ½, defeated Joshua “Pretty Boy” David Rivera, 8-2 (3), #138 ¾, of La Mesa, CA, over 8 rounds.
Scores were all 80-72. Referee was Sparkle Lee.
Lightweight Harley Mederos, 5-0 (5), #134 ¼, of Brooklyn, NY, stopped Julio Madera, 4-3 (3), 133 ½, of Mexico City, MEX, at 0:25 of the sixth round of a scheduled 6 rounds.
In the first rounds final minute Mederos rocked Madera with an overhand right driving him to the ropes. Referee Eric Dali warned him twice about hitting behind the head. In the second round Mederos drew blood from the nose of Madera halfway through the round with a solid jab. In the third round Madera’s face was red as a beet from the Mederos punches. The ring doctor was brought in to check Madera.
In the fourth and fifth rounds the gutsy Madera had two better rounds pressing Mederos and landing some rights to the chin of Mederos. After the round the ring doctor almost halted the fight due to the swelling under Madera’s left eye. In the sixth and final round after twenty seconds referee Dali called a halt saving Madera from more punishment though the boxer wasn’t happy about it.
