Adrien Broner on Michael Williams Jr: “He better be ready. I’m coming to f**k him up”

By Craig Daly: Adrien Broner reacted angrily this week to a remark from his opponent Michael Williams Jr saying that he’s going to “get rid” of him when he faces the former four-division world champion AB on February 25th on BLK Prime PPV at the gateway Center Arena, College Park, Georgia.

Williams Jr (20-1, 13 KOs) is the third opponent that has been picked to face the fading 33-year-old Broner (34-4-1, 24 KOs) for his comeback fight in a 10-round bout.

Broner hasn’t fought in two years and has been largely inactive over the last five years, fighting just three times. The 23-year-old Williams Jr feels that Broner is overlooking him, and he wants to show AB that he made a miscalculation.

With Broner’s inactivity and the way he’s performed in a lackluster manner, you can’t rule out a victory for the little-known Williams Jr.  BLK Prime has given Broner a huge eight-figure, 12-month contract and is essentially betting that the former star will be the fighter he was 10+ years ago when he was in his prime.

AB’s last five opponents

  • Jovanie Santiago – February 2021
  • Manny Pacquiao – January 2019
  • Jesse Vargas – April 2018
  • Mikey Garcia – July 2017
  • Adrian Granados – February 2017

Most would agree that Broner has lived a hard life outside the ring in the last five years, resulting in him rapidly aging.

Some would say that Broner hasn’t treated his body right, and it’s unrealistic to assume that he’s going to be able to undo the damage that he’s done to himself to be the fighter he once was from 2010 to 2013.

Broner not taking Williams Jr lightly

“Anybody on this level, you can’t take lightly. I’m preparing like this is the biggest fight of my career. I hope he’s doing the same thing. He better be ready because I’m coming to f**k him up,” said Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner to BLK Prime, talking about his comeback opponent Michael Williams Jr for their fight on February 25th.

“I’ve been training for quite some time now. It doesn’t matter who is on the other side. I’m in shape to get the victory. It don’t really matter,” said Broner to Fansided.

“It’s like anybody that fights Adrien Broner,”  said Adrien when asked what he thinks about his opponent Michael Williams Jr. “He’s training for the biggest fight of his life, and they’re coming to win. I just got to be on my s**t, honestly.

Even in my losses, it wasn’t about what my opponent did.  It was more so about what I didn’t do or what I didn’t do enough. This training camp has been great.  I feel good, and I can’t wait to put on a show.

Adrien reacts to Williams “get rid” of comment

“Last time I heard of ‘rid,’ they get rid of roaches, not people,” said Broner when told that his opponent Williams Jr said that he’s coming to “get rid” of Adrien on February 25th. “Talking about getting rid of me. Get the f**k out of here. Good luck, that’s what I tell him. Tell him I said, ‘Good luck.’

“My mindset is always the same. I still got to adjust and do what I got to do to get the victory. I got that s**t, and that s**t ain’t going nowhere,” said Broner when asked if the ring rust would be a problem for him. “I’ll probably be a little overweight, but it ain’t going nowhere.

“Once I start working, everything is like clockwork,”  said Adrien, suggesting that the inactivity that he’s had in the last five years hasn’t negatively impacted his game.

Criticism doesn’t affect Broner

“I don’t know about you, but coming from where I come from, that don’t mean nothing to me,” Broner said when asked how he tunes out the criticism he’s received from boxing fans.

“I done heard worst stuff in worst places. I don’t worry about fans, and I don’t care. I just don’t give a f**k about what nobody thinks. I just focus on me and I do what I got to do.

“I don’t let that get to me. Coming from where I come from [Cincinnati, Ohio],  how can you say anything that will move me? When I started, I had nothing, so how can you say anything to move me?

“I’m straight, and every day it’s going to keep getting better for me. I don’t worry about no opinion. Opinion never changed nothing for me.

“I just had a long talk with Rolly. He called me, and right now, he’s going through a lot of stuff when it comes to boxing. Like I told him, you can’t let that phase you. In boxing, you’re going to have good days and bad days, and you got to keep rolling.

“You got to keep working. You got to go into the gym with the same confidence and not let that s**t move you. Keep working,” said Broner.

“In boxing, a lot of people don’t know this from looking outside looking in; boxing is 10% physical and 90% mental. That’s why you can go in that ring and be 100% better than a guy, but if you’re not mentally sound or mentally focused, you can lose to a guy that is not even on your level. Mentally, you just got to be strong,” said Broner.
