By Adam Baskin: Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis reacted with amusement after hearing Frank Martin calling him out last Saturday night after his career-best win over Michel Rivera in Las Vegas.

Martin (17-0, 12 KOs) told the media after the fight that he wants to face WBA ‘regular’ lightweight champion Gervonta or Devin Haney next.

The 27-year-old Martin is now the WBA 135-lb mandatory challenger due to his title eliminator victory over Rivera (24-1, 14 KOs).

Tank Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) reacted with this comment below to Frank Martin’s call out:

“Yeah, ready to go to sleep. They all food,” said Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis on social media about Frank Martin’s call out.

Martin isn’t a big puncher like Tank, and he doesn’t possess his hand speed. The only shot Martin would have of beating Tank is if he were able to outbox him as he did with Rivera, but that’ll be difficult because he’ll be getting hit a lot.

Unlike Rivera, Tank won’t be afraid to let his hands go. He’ll be coming after Martin, looking to knock him out with every shot he throws.

With that said, Tank already has two fights in 2023 against Hector Luis Garcia on January 7th and Ryan Garcia on April 15th.

Unless one of those two bouts falls out, the earliest that Gervonta will be available to fight Martin would be in late summer.

It would be best for Frank to build up to the Tank Davis or Devin Haney fight by facing Shakur Stevenson next. The highly ranked #2 WBO, #3 WBC, #5 IBF, and #5 WBA lightweight contender Shakur (19-0, 9 KOs) doesn’t have a fight scheduled yet.

Shakur also called out Martin last night after his win over Rivera, and he’s serious. He needs an opponent after being turned down by Isaac Cruz, William Zepeda, and George Kambosos Jr.

“We want them all. We can get Gervonta Davis. We can get Devin Haney. Any of those types of guys, we’re ready,” said Martin when interviewed last Saturday night after his win over Michel Rivera in Las Vegas.

“I see Rolly in here. Rolly is my guy. We can get in there too. Let’s make it happen, man.

“I had him confused. He was relying on that right hand the whole fight,” said Martin about the previously unbeaten Rivera. “I guess he felt who was the stronger man.”
